Interaction with Guests
It depends on the guests. Some of our guests like to interact a lot with us (and we love it), and others mostly like to do their own thing (yep, we love that, too!) Our goal is for a guests to be happy and comfortable during their stay at Cuisine Miguel.
I am supposed to write here what I like most about the neighborhood around our home. Tropical breezes, beautiful view of the ocean and island of Chora off our front porch and the guest's bedroom, waking up to the sound of a multitude of local birds, squirrels, geckos, and of the Howler Monkeys that come to feast on the Mango Trees in our yard.
Our beachfront home is in a short walking distance to local restaurants, galleries, supermarkets, surf and paddle board lessons and kayaking. You absolutely do not need a car during your stay here in Samara, but we have ample parking in our driveway, just beside the hosue.
Other Things to Note
Miguel is an excellent Chef. We usually have Sunday Dinners, kind of Family Style. We typically serve between 3-12 people. Either your own private dinner, or we may have a few more people from different places in the world join us. The cost is usually $10 USD per person, bring your own beverages. The price varies, of course, depending on the menu choice. More intimate dinners may be arranged with Miguel on other evenings of the week. Those prices usually range from about $15 pp to $25 pp, again, depending on the menu. For Sunday dinners, the first person or couple or family to book, usually makes the basic menu request: seafood, beef, pork, poultry, vegetarian..... Then, Miguel shops on Sunday morning for the freshest supply of each and makes his decision based on the initial request. Often, a typical Sunday Dinner includes all of the above. Come Hungry! Here is one of our reviews of Miguel's Sunday Dinners:
From Andy Cary:
Cuisine Miguel is a culinary experience that you will never forget and will leave you happy and more than satisfied. Each course delivers sensational flavors and will literally have you begging to know what’s in there that makes it taste so good. For anyone who meets Miguel, it’s no secret that it’s a combination of culinary creativity, impeccable attentiveness, and a warm heart that creates a memorable evening and all around good time.

Miguel and Sarah are very friendly hosts and it was a pleasure to meet and talk with them. It felt like we were staying with old friends.
I loved everything about our stay in Samara except for the bug bites (a byproduct of being so near the beach). This room is for the young or the "young at heart".
Thank you Miguel and Sarah for this nice moment. Your set up is great and the sunday night meal have been one of our best meal we had in Costa Rica.
Thank you very much !

I cannot speak highly enough about my time spent at Sarah & Miguel's! You will definitely want to eat at their house for their Sunday night dinners - they are famous throughout all of samara! This is honestly one of the best places I have ever stayed. Sarah and Miguel were very helpful in recommending places to eat, beaches to explore, directions, etc. they are very "hands off," but if you have a question or want to talk with them (because they are awesome!) it's no problem at all. Super laid back, sweet, clean, hot running water, and a washing machine. All awesome! 5+ stars :)
It was an awsome stay at miguels beautyful beachhouse which is located directly on the beach. you can even hear the waves breaking at night when lying in bed. the host family welcomed us at the beach bar la vela latina which is really easy to find in samara, a small but nice town with a couple of bars and restaurants. the hosts are unconmplicated, nice and easygoing people.
Miguel and Sara's home was a beautiful relaxing stay with great people . Food was excellent and the company . Highly recommended !
If you're looking for a place where you have space for yourself , a relaxed atmosphere and the opportunity to cook yourself, then this is ideal . Very friendly people and a wonderful view of the beach. Nice town to spend a few days at the beach. Thanks for the nice stay!
Miguel's place is located quietly on Playa Samara but still in walking distance to the city center. This location does not fit the small price. Usually a hotel situated like this costs at least triple as much.
That's why there are a few differences to a fancy hotel:
- Cleanliness in our room was not good. You mustn't be too picky about this
- The place itself is not fully completed and has some similarities with a construction site
- You will have to prepare your own food / go out to eat. You will find a fully equipped kitchen and he offers to cook for you (usually Sundays) if you want and pay for it. We paid 10$ each, which was OK because the food tasted REALLY good
- it was loud during evenings and sometimes nighttime because of barking dogs
Miguel is almost blind but he is 100% independent and he knows the whole town really well. He will help you if you need advice for samara. Him and Sarah like to go out and have a couple of drinks on the veranda. Their son jack was also around who was a nice guy helping out in the kitchen.
The place is perfect for people who don't want to spend a lot of money in Samara and are busy at the beach or around town.

Hola! Miguel is originally from Germany. He moved to Playa Samara in 2008. Sarah has been coming to Samara since August 2011. Sarah moved here from Florida in Feb. 2013. We both LOVE it here. We have met so many wonderful people from all over the world. Miguel is a chef and guitar player. Our favorite night of the week is Sunday. That's when we have our special Sunday Dinner. It is usually for about 8 people. Miguel usually prepares a 5 course meal, and then we sit around the front porch playing guitar and talking. House Guests who wish to join in on the meal usually pitch in for groceries to cover the cost of the meal, and they bring their own beverages. We have a dog (Latina) and a cat (Flo). I'd like to say that we rescued them, but, actually, they rescued us. They are "beach pets"and typically come and go as they please. Both are very friendly and sweet. We'd love to meet you! Mi Casa es su Casa! Hasta luego!
