Interaction with Guests
It depends on the guests. Some of our guests like to interact a lot with us (and we love it), and others mostly like to do their own thing (yep, we love that, too!) Our goal is for a guests to be happy and comfortable during their stay at Cuisine Miguel.
I am supposed to write here what I like most about the neighborhood around our home. Tropical breezes, beautiful view of the ocean and island of Chora off our front porch and the guest's bedroom, waking up to the sound of a multitude of local birds, squirrels, geckos, and of the Howler Monkeys that come to feast on the Mango Trees in our yard.
Our beachfront home is in a short walking distance to local restaurants, galleries, supermarkets, surf and paddle board lessons and kayaking. You absolutely do not need a car during your stay here in Samara, but we have ample parking in our driveway, just beside the hosue.
Other Things to Note
Miguel is an excellent Chef. We usually have Sunday Dinners, kind of Family Style. We typically serve between 3-12 people. Either your own private dinner, or we may have a few more people from different places in the world join us. The cost is usually $10 USD per person, bring your own beverages. The price varies, of course, depending on the menu choice. More intimate dinners may be arranged with Miguel on other evenings of the week. Those prices usually range from about $15 pp to $25 pp, again, depending on the menu. For Sunday dinners, the first person or couple or family to book, usually makes the basic menu request: seafood, beef, pork, poultry, vegetarian..... Then, Miguel shops on Sunday morning for the freshest supply of each and makes his decision based on the initial request. Often, a typical Sunday Dinner includes all of the above. Come Hungry! Here is one of our reviews of Miguel's Sunday Dinners:
From Andy Cary:

Each course delivers sensational flavors and will literally have you begging to know what’s in there that makes it taste so good. For anyone who meets Miguel, it’s no secret that it’s a combination of culinary creativity, impeccable attentiveness, and a warm heart that creates a memorable evening and all around good time.

We stayed at Cuisine Miguel with our 22 month old toddler, we arrived late at night from SJO and Sarah and Miguel made us feel at home straight away, we had some difficulties with how to get to Samara (all the busses were fully booked and we didn't want to stay in San José) and Sarah really helped us out by talking to our cabdriver and translating for us. Sadly Latina (the dog) was very ill and died during our stay, we really feel sorry for Miguel and Sarah, we now she will be missed. Miguel and Rens enjoyed playing guitar together and talking about music. The kitchen had everything we looked for during our stay, good pans, sharp knives and a blender so we could make fresh fruit smoothies. We had Miguels famous sundsy diner (except it was on a thursday) and we really recommend it! If you are looking for a fancy place this may not be your first choice, but if you want a laidback place with friendly owners you will feel right at home. If you are travelling with an adventurous toddler like we did please note that the owners are kidfriendly, but the house is not really babyproof. You want to spend your time on the beach or chasing after the roosters anyway. Sarah and Miguel, thanks for letting us be a part of your family for a couple of days!
Miguel and Sarah were so sweet and welcoming. We met them up at The Vela Latina restaurant and they showed us the way to their house. It's a beautiful property right off the beach. The location can't be anymore perfect. Just a short walk to all of Samara! They were great with helping us locate things around town and fun to talk to. Highly recommend staying here.
Miguel and Sarah were wonderful hosts and went above and beyond in providing us with everything we needed, in addition to excellent information for restaurants and things to do! You know you have done well when your host greets you with a welcome beer, and makes coffee every morning. The town of Samara is very unique - it had no addresses, lots of expats and a really great beach. We were happy with the room size, refrigerator, and private bathroom, and greatly appreciated the ample netting to keep bugs out. The fans could have been a little stronger, but I can't blame the hosts for 95 degree heat! Our room was a short 2 minute walk to town and really offered the feel of beachfront living. The room was a great home base for our Costa Rica adventures and I would recommend it to all low-maintenance travelers.
Our experience exceeded our expectations. Sarah and Miguel were informative, very welcoming and kind, and overall great hosts. Our room was as comfortable as possible given the environment, adding the fan was a good idea. Their house is the perfect location from town, not too close and not too far. Very peacefully set on the beach but enough canopy to see beautiful birds and howler monkeys when lucky. Both Sarah and Miguel provided great information on the town and exciting things to do as well as have great conversations. When we come back we would be more than happy to stay with them again! PURA VIDA!!
The hosts are fantastic. Miguel and Sarah have a PERFECT location right on the beach. They are also very kind, sweet people. They will offer to make you dinner every night for a nominal extra fee.
I will just say this: remember how much you are paying. For this price, you are getting an extraordinary bargain. It is not the Four Seasons, nor does it purport to be. If you are ok with a basic room with an ensuite bathroom, you will be very happy indeed.
I intend to return. Miguel and Sarah are the best part!
Miguel and Sarah were wonderful hosts. They were all ready for our arrival, even though we were a little early. They even greeted us with welcome beers! Their house is 100 meters from the water, set back in a shady grove of palm trees. My husband and I enjoyed relaxing in the hammock while we read and listened to the waves. We spent the evening cooking and my husband even learned how to play backgammon, a family favorite game.
We were there for their Sunday feast where we were treated to a 3 course meal for only 10$ to cover the grocery cost. It was AMAZING.
Overall we had a great experience. If we are ever back in Samara I know where I am staying!
This has to be one of the best if not THE best place to stay in Samara. Sarah, Miguel, Miguel Dos, and Jack were awesome. If you want information they give you information, if you want to chill they let you chill, if you want to have fun they are right there to share the fun with you. You could not ask for better people. The location is also absolutely perfect. Literally right on the beach and only a few minutes walk to everything else you could want or need. Please stay at Cuisine Miguel its for your own good!
Lots of love

About the Host, Miguel
Hola! Miguel is originally from Germany. He moved to Playa Samara in 2008. Sarah has been coming to Samara since August 2011. Sarah moved here from Florida in Feb. 2013. We both LOVE it here. We have met so many wonderful people from all over the world. Miguel is a chef and guitar player. Our favorite night of the week is Sunday. That's when we have our special Sunday Dinner. It is usually for about 8 people. Miguel usually prepares a 5 course meal, and then we sit around the front porch playing guitar and talking. House Guests who wish to join in on the meal usually pitch in for groceries to cover the cost of the meal, and they bring their own beverages. We have a dog (Latina) and a cat (Flo). I'd like to say that we rescued them, but, actually, they rescued us. They are "beach pets"and typically come and go as they please. Both are very friendly and sweet. We'd love to meet you! Mi Casa es su Casa! Hasta luego!
