Miguel and Sarah's was a wonderful place to stay! they are such a nice couple and there son jack is just as welcoming. they were all so nice and friendly and truly opened up the house for us to use anything from dishes and silverware to beach blankets! the house is RIGHT on the beach an close to everything! they had useful info about the town and restaurants and the room itself was nice too. a great bathroom with a nice cold shower as well! perfect after a hot day at the beach! I highly recommend it!
9 nights with Sara, Miguel, Richard and Jack was the perfect place to relax after 6 weeks on the road in Central America. We arrived VERY late, after an ordeal at the Nicaraguan/Costa Rican border, but were met with huge smiles and laid back attitudes. The house sits among palm trees that fringe the beach, so getting down to the water is pretty effortless. Our bedroom was big, with lots of shelves so we could finally unpack our bags. There's a mini fridge in the room too, so we could keep cold water and snacks on hand. The cold waterfall shower in the bathroom was the perfect thing for cooling down after too much time in the sun.
Sara is bubbly and generous with her time. She was happy to answer all our questions and even lent us a blow up boat to use in the water (so much fun!) Her son Jack was very polite and mature for his age. Miguel is a wonderful cook and an equally wonderful musician. Sunday night dinner (great food!), getting to know everyone, including Richard who also lives in the house, was a real treat and is a must do if you stay over the weekend.
Sara, Miguel and Jack left for the last couple of days of our stay, so Richard kept us company- he's a wonderfully friendly person, and was happy to share stories and joke with us.
Again, a truly wonderful way to end our trip!
It was a great time with miguel and sarah. They were helpful and joyful hosts. Our little son was very welcome and we would recommend this place to everyone how wants to see Sámara and have a good time with local people.
But it's not the right place for those how looking for an lonely cell.
Thanks a lot for the good time.
We really enjoyed our stay at Miguel & Sarah's. Beautiful location right on the beach and a quick walk from town. The room was nice with its own private bathroom. The hosts were very helpful in making recommendations of places to go in Samara and offering use of their kitchen and flashlights for after dark. We enjoyed sitting on the porch one evening and getting to know some of their friends over a bottle of wine. I would be happy to stay here again when I find myself in Samara. Thank you, Miguel and Sarah!
Miguel was a wonderful host.. His girl friend, Sarah and he complimented each other nicely. The little room which was mine with a private bath was very clean and comfortable (hot water not reliable though). It was towards the front of the house which was ideal in one way because it faces the ocean so in the morning I was so delighted to gaze out the window and see the sea. It also though was right next to the center of activity which at times was pretty busy with visitors. For the very reasonable price though, I could overlook the noise for a short spell. The best part of my stay there was on Sunday which is the day that Miguel makes a fantastic meal. Anyone attending contributes $10 to the cost of the food. BYOB. He is a fantastic cook. It was the best meal I had throughout my whole stay in Costa Rica. There were and always are an eclectic array of friends and strangers traveling through. Lots of good conversation. I would recommend it without reservation.
Well ! Let's see. Sara and Miguel .... We have a few words about them. Interesting , talent chef and guitarist !! We were right literally on the beach !! We met lots of locals thru them and had a fantastic time. Howler monkeys at our door step. We were sad to leave to go onto our next of our CR adventure
Sarah and Jack were wonderful hosts and their place right on the beach was charming and close to great restaurants & shops. They gave us a great feel for what it's like to live in Samara and were very welcoming and fun to be around. The room was very clean and comfortable and the hammock on the patio was a perfect spot to drink coffee and look at the ocean.
Our stay with Sara (Miguel was away for the night) was fantastic. She helped us navigate Samara and met us at an easy spot to find before showing us to their house. Sara was extremely friendly and welcoming. She directed us to some of the local restaurants and gave us a good introduction to the town.
The house is situated just off the beach and was quite comfortable. We had everything we needed!
Miguel and Sarah are very nice and great hosts. We came around Christmas and New Years and joined a few dinner evenings with them and their friends as well which was lovely and connected us to some locals and other travelers. The house is right on the beach and just a few minutes walk away from all what's needed. We real lye enjoyed Samara and staying at Miguel's and Sarah's home.
Overall, our stay with Miguel and Sarah was quite nice, but there a couple things that could have been better.
First the positives:
- Miguel and Sarah are wonderful people. A pleasure to be around
- Location is great. 30 second walk from the beach; close enough to town/restaurants.
- Samara is a great place. We loved it there.
- Screens have been added to the windows, so we didn't have any problems with bugs.
- MIguel is a great chef! Just make sure you let him know well in advance and clearly if you have special diet restrictions. (We had a small miscommunication).
- The room's window opens on to the patio where people often sit talking, drinking, and smoking. The window has to be open or it gets too hot, but this makes for very minimal privacy, and often many smoke fumes.
- They still didn't have a key to lock the room's door (see review from Nov). This wasn't a big concern for us as they definitely seem like trustworthy people, but I think it would bother some guests.
- The bathroom door had warped and wouldn't latch. This means you become very familiar with your travel partner's bathroom habits.
- Hot water in the shower is only available if you ask Miguel and have him make adjustments to some pipes. We didn't test the hot water since the weather was so hot while we were there; the cold water was nice.
Again, overall we had a great stay, but I think these are some things that were unexpected that other guests may want to be aware of.
Thomas, thank you so much for your opinions. It was a pleasure having you and Elizabeth stay with us. We finally received the new door handle and key that we ordered several weeks ago, and it was installed just after Christmas. : )
Being right on the ocean, we do sometimes have problems with some of our wooden doors warping in the humidity. Now that the rainy season is over, we'll adjust the bathroom door again. Thanks for letting us know! Yes, we do allow our guests to smoke outside on the porch, and try to encourage them to smoke away from the window. Being a nonsmoker myself, we try to also encourage our nonsmoking guests to tell the others if the smoke becomes offensive. We can often find a solution. : )
