Very typical and beautiful old Dutch neighborhood, about 120 years old. Originally built for the railway workers and their families during the Industrial Revolution. Today the whole neighborhood is a monument, with lots of local culture and activities like music, art, workshops, neighborhood houses etc.
Perfectly located, train and bus station only 2 minutes walking. Bicycles for rent (6 EUR per day), fantastic bike path network through the whole country.
Walking through the city, parks and surrounding.
We have put a lot of love and care into our home and hope that you will treat the room, house and garden as it would be your own. There are no rules, just one detail, if you are a smoker please do so outside in front of the house or in the garden and not inside. Thanks and have a great stay in Alkmaar in your B&B Alkmaar onder de watertoren!
L'accueil fut très chaleureux, d'une grande gentillesse. La chambre tout a fait sympa. Nous avons bien aimé.
It's a fabulous experience to live with Tamara in Alkmaar. We were welcomed with tea and cookies, and Tamara gave us very detailed instructions about how to explore the town. Alkmaar is a lovely small town that has beaches, windmills and tulips and not so crowed. The room is basic but very cozy, ideal for students and young couples.
Tamara is kind, helpfull and friendly, the house is cozy and characteristic. The room was not of the most silence ones, but we slept good and everything was as described and promised. I warmly suggest this place :) Thank you very much Tamara!

About the Host, Tamara
I enjoy travelling but also receiving guests. Me and my husband we are passionate about cycling, spending time in nature, cooking and baking, listening to music, reading and gardening.
One of the highlights in travel experience was doing a 3 months bicycle tour through the Amazon (Suriname, Guyana, Brazil). We love to exchange travel stories and adventures with our guests and are curious to hear about your experiences.
One of my mottos:Leave a place I visit more beautiful than I have found it when I arrived.
Everybody arrives at the station. Easy to find when you get lost and only 2 minutes from the house.
Public transport by bus or train to beaches, villages and other cities in the Netherlands.
Great exhibition about the 80 year war with Spain.
Good introduction to history of Alkmaar.
The Sint Laurens Kerk has a wonderful organ, they say that Bach has played on it. Also changing art and photography exhibition worth visiting. On Fridays and Saturdays 12 noon free organ concerts.
For those interested in the history and archeology of this medieval town.
Nice park with old trees, good for walks. It has a playground, lake and lots of animals and birds. A children's zoo with goats, sheep, rabbits, and cows, good entertainment for small children.
This is where the tourist office is located as well. The cheese museum gives a great overview about the importance of cheese for the development of the city
This is a real grain mill with a natural food store attached, where a group of disabled people sell self produced flower, cookies, handy craft. They also give you a tour through the mill if asked!
Lake with beaches to swim, walk, barbecue. Big variety of birds and bird watching possible in and around nature park. Only 30 minutes by bike, access is for free!
