Great place! Nice central location, close to everything. Apartment stays super cool, nice to sleep in and good kitchen area. Vik was very helpful with recommendations and directions!
Vick was a most attentive and responsive host. The apartment, while a little darker than photos suggest, is in a great location and Vik provided lots of useful information about local restaurants and attractions. The apartment was also very thoughtfully stocked with basic cooking staples e.g oil. I highly recommend this apartment because of its space and location. It is also well equipped with fans and air conditioning.
My parents stayed at Three Arches for two weeks and everything with the apartment was exactly as they wanted. Vik was extremely welcoming and even though they never needed any assistance it was clear that Vik would have provided it if they'd needed it. The apartment is in an ideal position; well situated in the heart of Ortigia and close enough to the bridges to make access off the island easy enough. Top stuff.
Unfortunately Vik was unable to meet us as he was at work when we arrived in Ortegia, but he arranged for his Father to come down to the apartment and let us in and show us around, he made sure we knew where everything was and Vik had left us a really informative map of what was nearby and things to do locally in Ortegia.
The listing was accurate although as another reviewer had said it's not quite as bright as the pictures made out. It was quite warm when we were there but certainly in the summer heat this would actually be an advantage as it helps to keep the apartment cool.
Location wise the apartment is not really accessible by car. There are a couple of places where a taxi could drop you off and you can walk down or up. It seems to be mostly local people living there which is exactly what we were looking for.
Ortegia itself is stunning and I would go back in a heartbeat, everyone is so friendly and there is plenty to do. We stayed for 4 nights and only went across to Syracuse once and that was to see the Roman amphitheatre etc. The fish market is well worth a visit and although we only really cooked one meal in the apartment it was very well equipped and we loved being able to buy produce from the market.
Great to have a washing machine too, we were half way through a 2 week trek at this point so it was great to be able to get a couple of loads done.
We were travelling onwards to Pozzallo on a Sunday and Vik was on hand to confirm that there was no public transport available and to arrange a private transfer with one of his friends and we really appreciated that.
Vik was a great host. He met us at the apartment when we arrived and gave us lots of good advice on the local area (places to visit, good restaurants etc) along with a handy map! The apartment itself was great, very clean and had everything we needed, even a washing machine! The apartment is in a great location in Ortygia, which is a beautiful town that I would recommend anyone to visit and spend a few days in. If you have a car, there is a free carpark less than 10 minutes walk from the apartment.
We had a lovely stay in Syracuse. Thank you for hosting us Vik.
We were welcomed by Vik's dad to start with because we were late arriving - sorry. (We discovered our arrival day was a national public holiday and hence the buses were not running to schedule!)
We were travelling with 2 young children (aged 1 and 2) and we all had a lovely holiday. The apartment is in the heart of Ortygia and in easy reach of the fabulous piazza and Duomo. We had a brilliant time exploring the lovely streets of Ortygia, going to the puppet theatre, a boat trip to sea caves, the Greek theatre, the catacombs of San Giovanni and also explored a bit further afield with day trips to Noto and then to a wetlands/countryside area south of Noto by train.
The apartment was as described and we loved the orange theme! The washing machine was helpful as our kids got very messy eating lots of tasty Sicilian ice cream and there was somewhere to hang out the washing on the balcony and pegs were provided.
We used the hob to cook food on several times. There wasn't an oven or microwave but I don't think that was listed and we managed without one anyway. More loo roll would have been useful.
We had to do a little bit of furniture rearranging to make the apartment toddler-proof but we put everything back at the end of our stay. The apartment is on the first floor and there are stairs directly off the kitchen/living room area which we hadn't worked out from the pictures but we managed to block the exit to the stairs easily enough with furniture so that our 1 year old couldn't throw herself down the stairs unexpectedly!
All in all we had a great holiday and a lovely stay in Syracuse. Thank you.
A comfortable apartment in a convenient and quiet location. Really appreciated the washing machine and clothes line off the balcony (not large enough to sit). The kitchen is adequately equipped for cooking a simple meal. Vik was a welcoming host and gave us a good orientation to Ortygia Island and good restaurant recommendations. The stairs up to the apartment are a little steep and could be a problem for some. The apartment is not as light-filled in the photos, which is probably a plus in the summer. An easy walk to the bus or train station.
