Amed, East Bali

Amed refers to a number of small fishing villages on the east coast of Bali. It (email hidden) for tourists wanting to experience the ‘real’ Balinese culture. There are many ceremonies held in Amed, and if you’re here for more than a few days, you might be lucky enough to get invited to attend one.

Popular activities in the area include fishing, snorkelling and diving at the two shipwrecks in the area.

Temples/Palaces/Balinese Culture

To satisfy the ‘culture vulture’ in you, why not visit the Floating Palace of Taman Ujung, the water palace Tirtta Gangga and the Kings Palace in Amlapura? All can be reached in around 30 minutes from Amed.
How about a day trip to the famous Besakih Temple? A visit to a traditional Aga village can also be arranged. The Aga people are the original people of Bali and only two Aga Villages are left one of wish is an hours drive from Amed.

The more adventurous of you may enjoy an early morning climb of nearby Mount Agung to catch the sunrise.

Secret White Sand Beach

Any beach lovers will love a trip to the relatively unknown Virgin Beach or as it is locally known ‘white sand beach’, which can be reached in just under 1 hour.

By far the easiest way to get around the area is by scooter. We can organise rental for you and even a quick lesson. For those not wanting to put their driving skills to test on the Balinese roads, we can organise scooter taxi for you or a car and driver if you prefer.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Emmas bungalows are really comfertable, especially the bed!:) good terrace, you can see the stars at night. The breakfast area has a beautiful mountain view, and the breakfast is a standard breakfast. The staff is friendly. The location is a at least ten minute walk to the restaurants in Ahmed, and good beaches.

  • I stayed at Dillons for 7 nights and, as a woman traveling alone, always felt safe and welcome by Emma and her staff. The bed is quite comfortable and the room is furnished nicely. It is a little bit of a walk to the center of Amed, but the scooters for hire are cheaper than in town and will get you there in minutes. The views from my porch and from the restaurant are gorgeous as well. Good complimentary breakfast each morning prepared and served by a warm and charming staff. Take the time to talk with them and you won't be disappointed. Overall, great value for the money.

  • A few bugs around the room but kept out mostly with mosquito net. Worst complaint would be the internet but other than that very nice stay with accommodating staff, cooked us a delicious meal with fresh fish and helped book our ferry to Gili the next morning. Good value for money

We had a friendly welcome, were always well advised. Our room was very clean and nicely furnished. We had a great sleep, because there are new mattresses available.
We think in the area of Amed's is nothing to do. More suitable for nature lovers.

  • Emma was a gracious and flexible host for our stay in Amed, Bali. My girlfriend and I stayed for over a week in one of the ensuite bungalows and enjoyed delicious complimentary breakfast each morning we woke up there. We arrived very late our first night and even though there were no other guests at the time, she had her staff waiting up to greet us. Her staff was fantastic, generally arriving around 8am and staying until we turned in each nigh around 9 or 10 pm.

The bungalows are Conveniently located only 5 minutes walk from the nearest beach and are also on the main drag and just minutes away from the more tourist central of the village.

By just our second night Emma was kind enough to arrange a small gathering of her local ex-pat friends in the area who were able to offer advice on how to plan out the rest of our full month trip. They were local business owners, well traveled, or had been in the surrounding area for some time. These connections and conversations proved to be very insightful.

I felt completely safe and secure above all else and even left all my luggage in my room for four nights when I took an excursion into central Bali.

Emma is completely in with the locals and was able to provide great tips on finding local food. Also extremely helpful, she and her family can arrange to hire a scooter for very cheap. I highly suggest the scooter since the area has such a great coastline to cruise and a few nice beaches for laying out. I was able to hit multiple snorkeling spots within 25 minutes from the bungalows :) Further, it is smart to ask Emma and her staff what fare prices are when paying for everything in the area including food, transportation, guides, or whatever you need.

I'm hoping to return before the end of my trip!
