Amed, East Bali
Amed refers to a number of small fishing villages on the east coast of Bali. It is a popular place for tourists wanting to experience the ‘real’ Balinese culture. There are many ceremonies held in Amed, and if you’re here for more than a few days, you might be lucky enough to get invited to attend one.
Popular activities in the area include fishing, snorkelling and diving at the two shipwrecks in the area.
To satisfy the ‘culture vulture’ in you, why not visit the Floating Palace of Taman Ujung, the water palace Tirtta Gangga and the Kings Palace in Amlapura? All can be reached in around 30 minutes from Amed.
How about a day trip to the famous Besakih Temple? A visit to a traditional Aga village can also be arranged. The Aga people are the original people of Bali and only two Aga Villages are left one of wish is an hours drive from Amed.
The more adventurous of you may enjoy an early morning climb of nearby Mount Agung to catch the sunrise.
Secret White Sand Beach
Any beach lovers will love a trip to the relatively unknown Virgin Beach or as it is locally known ‘white sand beach’, which can be reached in just under 1 hour.
By far the easiest way to get around the area is by scooter. We can organise rental for you and even a quick lesson. For those not wanting to put their driving skills to test on the Balinese roads, we can organise scooter taxi for you or a car and driver if you prefer.
Getting there and away
By far the easiest way to reach Amed is by taxi (contact us for excellent pick up rates). However, for the more adventurous travel it is possible to reach Amed by Bemo from Amlapura. Beware, however, that it may be a bumpy ride!
The room, reception, staff and area was great. Good value for money, nice and quite.
Our stay at Dillon's was lovely. The staff were great and the hosts were so welcoming! We really enjoyed all of our meals at Dillon's as well. The views are breathtaking of the mountains, corn fields, and volcano. The bungalow was great and has a very comfortable bed! Dillons offers tours, boat trips to the Gilis and Lombok, and you can rent scooters through them as well. Thanks again
It's a little bit away from everything. Just rent a scooter or have a good walk to the village if you would like to eat in a restaurant or have a beer. The room and the facilities are really nice. The bathroom is open, so be careful because of mosqitos !!! Make sure you use the klamboe ;-) Very nice staff and driver.
i would just like to point out that due to an overbooking on our part you stayed in the deluxe joglo and not the blue room. the blue room does not have an open bathroom. We have since put in mosquito repelling plants in the bathroom of the deluxe Joglo but the bathroom should always be kept closed anyway for security reasons although Ame3d is very very safe always better to be careful
Dillons is a great place, in an unfortunately very trafficy location. I suggest earplugs. The rooms are beautiful and the staff is so friendly, and the food is some of the best around. That said, if you want to stay right on the beach, this isn't the place for you. Jemeluk Beach, which is totally walkable, is the nicest swimming in the area and amazing for snorkelling. There are places along the beach that are more modest but also cheaper. The Amed area is beautiful but very quiet - ideal for couples and families, not so much for single travellers.
