Amed, East Bali
Amed refers to a number of small fishing villages on the east coast of Bali. It is a popular place for tourists wanting to experience the ‘real’ Balinese culture. There are many ceremonies held in Amed, and if you’re here for more than a few days, you might be lucky enough to get invited to attend one.
Popular activities in the area include fishing, snorkelling and diving at the two shipwrecks in the area.
To satisfy the ‘culture vulture’ in you, why not visit the Floating Palace of Taman Ujung, the water palace Tirtta Gangga and the Kings Palace in Amlapura? All can be reached in around 30 minutes from Amed.
How about a day trip to the famous Besakih Temple? A visit to a traditional Aga village can also be arranged. The Aga people are the original people of Bali and only two Aga Villages are left one of wish is an hours drive from Amed.
The more adventurous of you may enjoy an early morning climb of nearby Mount Agung to catch the sunrise.
Secret White Sand Beach
Any beach lovers will love a trip to the relatively unknown Virgin Beach or as it is locally known ‘white sand beach’, which can be reached in just under 1 hour.
By far the easiest way to get around the area is by scooter. We can organise rental for you and even a quick lesson. For those not wanting to put their driving skills to test on the Balinese roads, we can organise scooter taxi for you or a car and driver if you prefer.
Getting there and away
By far the easiest way to reach Amed is by taxi (contact us for excellent pick up rates). However, for the more adventurous travel it is possible to reach Amed by Bemo from Amlapura. Beware, however, that it may be a bumpy ride!
Staying at Dillon's was a last minute arrangement for us but we were happy with our stay. It's about a 10 minute walk away from the beach and 15 minute walk away from the main area of Amed where all shops/restaurants/dive schools are. The room is comfy but there were a few cobwebs, weak fan and no TV as listed on the amenities. For what we paid though it was a good bargain. Also the restaurant is well priced and a there is a good free breakfast. Best advice is to rent a scooter from them to avoid walking home at night as there aren't many street lights. Amed on a whole is nice, good beach and not get ruined by mass tourism. Would recommend this place but would stay on the beach if we ever came back. Emma and her family are all very nice too, only met them once. Finally good option if arriving by shuttle bus as it goes right past this place.
thank you for your review. You very aged? They are less than 2 years old so any ware and tear is absolute minumum! Also you say the photos do not show rooms in a true light? as anyone can see the photos are airbnb verified which means the professional airbnb photographer took the photos then sent direct to airbnb to publish and these were taken just a matter of week before your arrival.
If you would of mentioned the flooded in the bathroom to our staff while you were there they would of fixed this immediately much better than waiting until afterwards and complaining via a review!
I will admit the mosquito nets were dirty and these have already been washed.
unfortunately I have not been at the bungalows so much recently due both mine and my childrens illness but my husband is often there and i am always avaliable by email or phoneif there are any problems
I liked staying at Emmas place. It is good value for money, spacious, clean and the stuff is super sweet and very helpful. It is very close at the main road, but lets face it: most of the accommodation, cafes and restaurants in Amed are on the main road. I didn't find it too noisy and I certainly haven't experienced rowdy hordes of local youth as mentioned in an other review. It is not directly at the beach, but close enough to be reached by foot or scooter and I actually really enjoyed to stay in a place where not constantly people come by trying to sell things like at the accommodation offered at the beach.
