  • This was a really great spot, and just how you see in the photos - long basement-style studio on the West side of Madison. It was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Brand new appliances and everything worked well. James was a wonderful host - super flexible, very accommodating, and very accessible. He went out of his way to make our stay as easy as possible, even offering up some of his own things when we needed them. The place is not downtown, so having a car would be best, but it's close enough to fun things. We really loved our stay at Hillcrest, and highly recommend it!

  • Great base for a stay in Madison and the surrounding areas. Apartment takes three comfortably and was spotlessly clean. Kitchen is basic but has all of the essentials that you need to cater for yourself. James was very accommodating and worked his own schedule to suits ours. Great stay.

  • Me and my family have been staying in James's house for 1,5 month now and we are very happy both with the house and with James. He has been helping us with everything we ask and he always checks us and asks if there is something more that he can help with. The furniture and appliances are adequate for long-term stays like ours. The beds are comfy. The heating of the house is perfect, even when there are continious cold blasts like in this winter.
The location of the house is great too. A short walk to shopping mall, grocery and bus stops.
We would definitely stay here again if we come back to Madison!!

  • We ( my girlfriend and I) enjoyed a nice stay in James house. The house is very comfortable, and very well localized. It is easy to get buses from there to everywhere in Madison.
James is helpfull and a kind person. We are glad to choose this place to be in Madison.
We recommend this house for people who want a peacefull place in Madison!

  • This was the perfect place!! We stayed for 10 days while visiting family. Great little kitchen area for our breakfast. We never cooked other meals, but it would work great for that. Fireplace was wonderful as the weather turned cool. Comfortable couch and tv space! We really think this is a great place to stay!

  • Our stay at the Hillcrest Hideway was just what we were looking for! The location was convenient to downtown, there's shopping down the street, and easy access to all of the major highways.

The overall neighborhood was quiet and very friendly, which made for great afternoon walks and the space is comfortable and modern with a few unexpected touches - like heated concrete floors :)

James was easy to work with, accommodating, and extremely responsive. I would definitely recommend this space to others and would stay here again in the future.

  • James is a great guy who let my family stay at his place for extended period and was very flexible. He made our stay extremely comfortable and provided us with everything we needed. Overall, his place is great. It located in a very nice neighbor hood close to many key locations, including Downtown Madison. I will definitely look up James next time I'm in Madison.

  • My family (4 adults) stayed here for 3 nights. This place is exquisite - the photos are true to life and my mom was raving about the style and decoration. It is basically a full-furnished apartment minus a full size fridge and I wouldn't mind living here all the time. The neighborhood is all houses and leafy - while geographically close to Target, Hilldale, downtown, it felt more suburb-y than the walkable amenities you get in a downtown atmosphere. But it was perfect for the family to get away from all the graduation hubbub and a great night's sleep after being out and about all day. Plenty of room in the parking lot for both of our cars too because my family drove from out of state. Perfect distance away from campus/downtown for conveniencing car-usage for a family but not far enough to feel out of the loop. Also, very easy to find if you're coming from out of town.

James and Kate were super nice and accommodating (to our schedules too): we added 2 people rather last minute and James lent us an air mattress that easily fit in front of the fireplace. We chatted with him for a while the first night and he had some good sightseeing suggestions. We were all very happy with the experience. Thank you, James and Kate!

  • I could not have satayed at a better place. It was complete with my own entry way and it seemed like an apt. in Europe instead of Maidison. I loved it. Extremely well designed with flowers and wine awaiting my arrival. James and his partner were there as well to greet me. I even stayed an extra night. This is my first time at airbnb, but I am a believer. Michelle Reineck
