About this listing
We live in a lovely large Mediterranean style home in a quiet private location 4 miles from downtown Ojai and 20 minutes from the Ventura beach. The room is large with a private entrance, outdoor patio, large lawn and view of the Topa Topa mountains and the Pink Moment. There is an adjacent private full bath with a tub and a shower and access to a large fridge. We supply a hot water kettle, tea & coffee, half and half/milk etc., and a small microwave along with an orchard of oranges, plates, silverware, cups and pure water. We also supply shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and soap so no need to pack all that. We are quiet, peaceful people, open minded and joyful. There is parking and you will need a car as the bus does not come nearby. We have a cat who you probably won't see but if you are allergic to cats this may not be the best place for you. No pets, please. Our kitty is a rescue kitty and a bit skittish with strangers and other animals.
Guests have access to a large frig, our large yard, their own private patio with a comfortable chair/swing, outdoor table and chairs.
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy interacting with our guests and giving them any help or information they may need to make their stay more enjoyable. We are both outgoing, friendly people but we also are absolutely fine with minimal interaction. It is all up to the guest. We sometimes have people who stay here while on a silent retreat and we rarely see them. Others enjoy exchanging life stories and we enjoy that too.
This neighborhood is made up of friendly, quiet folks. There are no streetlights so you can really see the stars at night. The houses are nice and kept up. It is very safe and we never worry about walking around at night. We often hear owls hooting and coyotes yipping in the distance.
The bus does not come by our road so its about 1 mile to walk to the bus so a car really is needed.
Other Things to Note
Over and over we are told that our guests sleep wonderfully in the Cal-King bed. A good night's sleep makes for a happy vacation! Also, we will provide you with a GPS for your car if you don't have one and are not familiar with the area. Peace of mind is a beautiful thing!
We want to attract guests who value the peace and quiet of our property and home. We ask that the noise level be kept down after 10pm and we will do the same. No extra guests, please, without first talking to us about it. No drugs and only reasonable alcohol consumption, please. Also, please take any extra garbage out to the garbage can (ask us where it is). Thank you!
Great place. Wonderful hosts. Felt like a home away from home.
We had the best stay ever at Barbara and Bill's place. The room
was spacious and had a very relaxing atmosphere. The private porch
was a delight.
They are the most gracious and generous hosts.
I wish I had spent some more time with them.
Hi Barbara, thanks so much the quiet and most comfortable bed! Loved the porch swing and view. Best, Lisa
Barbara and Bill couldn't have been nicer! Definitely an "A" for hosts! The room was spacious and comfortable.....perfect for a quiet getaway. The area was beautiful, scenic, and so relaxing. We would highly recommend this Airbnb and hopefully, we can be back soon!
Great room, Great views, Great hosts. Barbara was a lovely lady and made sure my stay with her was all that she promised in her listing. The room was beautiful and comfortable. I recommend this location to anyone visiting the Ojai area.
The host was so attuned to my needs and my comfort .., it was great. She even had half and half for my morning coffee... Beautiful room, beautiful property and beautiful couple...
Barbara and Bill are two of the kindest, generous, loving folks I've ever met in my travels. They've thought of everything to make their guests warm & comfortable! I was happily able to rest peacefully in the quiet, roomy, clean, private bedroom with super comfy king bed. The room also has it's own private bathroom & bathtub. The backyard and mountain views from this bedroom and it's private patio swing are truly amazing! If you're looking for a little slice of heaven to relax in while in Ojai, hosted by a joyful couple who love what they do, I HIGHLY recommend Barbara and Bill's lovely place!! I can't wait to go again!!
About the Host, Barbara
My husband, Bill Shields, and I live in Ojai and are both in our mid sixties, love cinema, poetry, travel, natural health alternatives and nature. I was born in Seattle, Washington and lived there till I was 20 when I started traveling. Bill was raised in Seattle from age five and traveled extensively throughout Asia with his work. I have lived in Alaska, San Francisco, Marin County, Mexico, Denver, the W. coast of Florida and in Hawaii. I've always preferred warm weather to the rainy Pacific NW so, after moving back to Seattle for 11 years after meeting Bill in Hawaii, I was very ready for another move to a warmer climate. Ojai has been the perfect fit for both of us. The close proximity to the ocean is a wonderful contrast to the warm Mediterranean climate of Ojai, the many beautiful opportunities for hiking, the close knit community and the various cultural events all supply an equal balance of nature, self growth and intellectual stimulation.
Both Bill and I are (mostly) retired. I was a Mental Health Therapist in Hawaii and Seattle and he worked for Pacific Trail/London Fog in Seattle for many years as VP of Sourcing. We are both active, curious nature lovers who have found our "heaven on earth" here in Ojai.
Two of my life mottos are "To thine own (Higher) self be true" and "The truth shall set you free." Being in integrity with myself and others is very important to me as is being close to nature and animals. Being a psychologist, I tend to explore what motivates people and try to always ask that question before jumping to a conclusion that might be less than an expression of their true self.
Airbnb has given us a wonderful opportunity to meet interesting people from all over the world and to share our love for Ojai with our guests. I used to be a travel agent and still have plenty of that in me so, helping people find fun interesting things to do and places to eat and enjoy nature gives me pleasure. We always look forward to new guests.
