House - Private room · Los Encinos Road, Ojai, CA 93023, United States

The Space

We live in a lovely large Mediterranean style home in a quiet private location 4 miles from downtown Ojai and 20 minutes from the Ventura beach. The room is large with a private entrance, outdoor patio, large lawn and view of the Topa Topa mountains and the Pink Moment. There is an adjacent private full bath with shower and access to a large fridge. We supply a hot water kettle, tea & coffee and a small microwave along with an orchard of oranges, plates, silverware, cups and pure water. We are quiet, peaceful people, open minded and joyful. There is parking and you will need a car as the bus does not come nearby. We have a cat so our home wouldn't work if you are allergic. No pets, please.

Guest Access

Guests have access to our large yard, their own private patio with a comfortable chair/swing and a large frig.

Interaction with Guests

We enjoy interacting with our guests and giving them any help or information they may need to make their stay more enjoyable. We are both outgoing, friendly people but we also are absolutely fine with minimal interaction. It is all up to the guest. We sometimes have people who stay here while on a silent retreat and we rarely see them. Others enjoy exchanging life stories and we enjoy that too.

The Neighborhood

This neighborhood is made up of friendly, quiet folks. There are no streetlights so you can really see the starts at night. The houses are nice and kept up. It is safe and we never worry about walking around at night. We often hear owls and coyotes yipping in the distance.

Getting around

The bus does not come by our road so its about 1 mile to walk to the bus. A car really is needed.

  • Bill and Barbara are truly accommodating people with a very peaceful home.

  • Barbara and Bill were wonderful hosts. They made every effort to ensure we had a pleasant stay. The room was spacious and we enjoyed the Cal King bed.

We loved sitting on the porch swing drinking a coffee and looking at the mountains while listening to the birds each morning.

The neighborhood is charming, we found no reason to bother locking our doors.

  • Barbara and Bill were wonderful hosts, and their home is an absolutely stunning sanctuary. Their gentle, kind, quiet presence made me feel both comfortable and accepted while I visited. They were so helpful with their suggestions of hikes and spaces to visit, were incredibly flexible about my stay schedule, and I genuinely enjoyed every moment of our time together. I can not wait for my next opportunity for a visit! Their sweet cat Shiloh was a love, and the oranges they gave me from their yard were the most delicious things I have ever tasted… sincerely. (You guys should give Sunkist some pointers)!!! :) The bed in the room was so comfortable it almost kept me from getting out and exploring, but the beautiful sunlight and views beckoned me. I simply can not speak highly enough about my time staying with Barbara and Bill. I will most definitely be back very, very soon!!! Thank you!!!

Thank you so much for your kind review, Dewey. I'm so glad you had a great time and really look forward to your return!

  • This was a perfect place for our stay in Ojai! The location was super convenient to both downtown Ojai and Ventura. Our hosts were so gracious and the room was lovely and private. Could not have been better!

  • BArbara and Bill are amazing, beautiful people. I loved my stay in Ojai at their place. It was a safe, nurturing place to be and I will go back!

    November 2013
  • Barbara and Bill have a beautiful space to share! The pictures do not fully convey the spaciousness and beauty of the room and patio. It was large, private and quiet. The king bed was extremely comfortable! I was participating in a rather intense process workshop and needed a quiet, clean and calm environment to rest. This was perfect! Thank you Barbara and Bill for being such gracious hosts!

  • I had a wonderful time in Barbara's and Bill's house.
The room is big with an extremely comfortable king size bed. You will find more great blankets in the closet if you get cold. The shower is very good. There is a kettle and a microwave and cups and plates. There is also a big fridge in the garage you can use, The view from the windows of the room and the garden are absolutely beautiful. The room is super quiet and I slept extremely well maybe also because Ojai Valley is the only valley in the world to be oriented East to West instead of North to South. That is one reason why it has an amazing vibe and energy. The valley is so beautiful. I loved it very much.
Barbara and Bill are very kind and wonderful people. I had very lovely conversations with them, they are also very very helpful. I highly recommend their place.

  • A most wonderful place to stay. Quiet and relaxing with very welcoming hosts.

  • What a lovely place to stay—our favorite AirBnB room so far. Peaceful, beautiful view, quiet, privacy, fun teas and coffee to try, a fridge to store food in, organic oranges fresh off the tree, a huge, comfy bed and cool, gracious hosts. We didn't want to leave. Only ten minutes from downtown Ojai. What a find...can't wait to come back!

  • I really cannot say enough good things about my experience staying at Barbara and Bill's guest suite. The room is large, the bed is so comfortable, the bathroom is clean, you have your own huge private patio with an amazing view and your hosts are two of the most kind people I've met. Seriously, the first night I met them I wanted to give them a hug goodnight.

You will leave feeling calm and peacful and refreshed, which I think is the point of visiting Ojai! And as soon as you leave you'll be planning your next trip back and won't consider staying anywhere else!!

    Hi Bridget ~~
I am so glad you enjoyed your time here so much. Our goal is to provide a peaceful experience for our guests and we really enjoy tending to all the details that enhance that peace. For many Ojai is about healing and rejuvenating on lots of levels. Its wonderful that you were able to take that in and go away feeling refreshed.

My husband and I live in Ojai and are both am in our mid sixties, love cinema, poetry, travel, natural health alternatives and nature. I was born in Seattle, Washington and lived there till I was 20 when I started traveling. I have lived in Alaska, San Francisco, Marin County, Mexico, Denver, the W. coast of Florida and in Hawaii. I've always preferred warm weather to the rainy Pacific NW so, after living 11 years back in Seattle after meeting my husband in Hawaii, I was very ready for another move. Ojai has been the perfect fit for both me and my husband. The close proximity to the ocean is a wonderful contrast to the warm Mediterranean climate of Ojai. Both my husband and I are (mostly) retired. I was a Mental Health Therapist in Hawaii and Seattle and he worked for Pacific Trail/London Fog in Seattle for many years as VP of Sourcing. We are both active, curious nature lovers who have found our "heaven on earth" here in Ojai. Two of my life mottos are "To thine own (Higher) self be true" and "The truth shall set you free." Being in integrity with myself and others is very important to me as is being close to nature and animals. Being a psychologist, I tend to explore what motivates people and try to always asking that question before jumping to a conclusion that might be less than an expression of their true self.
