Located in the hills above of Santa Barbara between the city and the sea, this authentic adobe was built in the mid 1950's by master Adobero, Senor Aguilar. With panoramic views of the city and mountains and a peek of harbor, this welcoming home will provide you with the quintessential Santa Barbara vacation! You enter the property through old Mesquite Gates and descend to the private courtyard, complete with fountain, citrus trees and barbecue. This is a perfect spot for morning coffee, afternoon naps or a casual dinner. The main house has two bedrooms, each with a queen bed and private bath. The kitchen is beautifully appointed with a Viking range and professional appliances for any discriminating cook. On the view side of the property you will find a terrace and "sit in" stone fire pit with stunning vistas of the city and mountains. The property also has a guest cottage that can accommodate two more persons. It contains an extra long twin trundle, private bath, and secluded terrace with mountain and city views. (Please note that the guest cottage is only available with stays of 30 days or longer.) The home is less than a 7 min drive to the beach or downtown and has three flat screen TV's with satellite HD TV service, internet access, central heat and off street parking.

No smoking or pets allowed on property. Use of the third bedroom (guest cottage with X-Long twin trundle bed and full bath) for bookings of 30 days or longer. There is also a $175.00 cleaning fee and $1,000.00 refundable security deposit. This is a very private and quiet location. Guests are asked to refrain from creating loud noise or music after 9pm, especially from the outside, so as not to disturb the neighbors.
• No pets are permitted without prior written authorization from Owner and payment of an additional pet security deposit in an amount to be determined by Owner. Authorized pets should never be left unattended outside the Premises and should be leashed at all times.
• This is a non-smoking property and no smoking is permitted inside or outside of the Premises.
• Occupant shall not disturb, annoy, endanger or interfere with the neighbors or other persons residing adjacent to or near the Premises.
• Occupant agrees that no loud music or loud noises are permitted in any of the outside areas – Courtyard, View Patio, Terraces and Fire Pit after 9pm. Violation of this rule can result in the loss of your security deposit.
* The burning of wood or any other objects in the fireplace and fire pit is stickily prohibited. Gas logs have been placed in those locations for your enjoyment.
* The burning of candles is not permitted on the property. "Flame-less" candles have been provided for your enjoyment.
• Occupant shall not use the Premises for any unlawful purposes or violate any law,
Regulation or ordinance while occupying the Premises.
• Occupant shall immediately notify Owner of any problem, damage or malfunction of any appliance, mechanical equipment, gas, electrical or plumbing fixtures.
• Occupant agrees to maintain the Premises in a clean and safe condition, to dispose of all trash and garbage in the trash cans provided for that purpose, to properly use and operate all appliances and not to damage or remove any part of the facilities, equipment,
Appliances or supplies provided as part of the Premises.
• Occupant shall not assign the right to occupy or rent the Premises or sublet the Premises without first obtaining the prior written consent of Owner.
Non - Liability of Owner. The Owner of the Premises is not responsible or liable in any way for any loss, damage, injury, cost or expense to Occupant, any member of the Occupant Party or any guest of Occupant on the Premises caused by to fire, water damage, inclement weather, casualty, Act of God or any other cause which is not the result of the actions or conduct of Owner, its agents or employees or the owner. Occupant agrees to indemnify and hold Owner free and harmless from all loss, damage, liability, judgment, cost or expense, including attorney fees, arising from any injury occurring on the Premises to Occupant, any tenant, their family members, friends, invitees, guests or visitors or to any damage caused to an item of personal property of said persons. Occupant acknowledges that Occupant, the family members and guests are possession and renting the Premises as a “transient lodger” for the number of days specified above. Owner retains full legal, possessory and access rights to the Premises.
Mark was very nice, & showed us around the whole place when we arrived! The house was beautiful, like something out of architectural digest!! It was stocked with everything! He even left us gift basket with wine, cheese, fruit, chocolate, etc. The house was very relaxing & tranquil with an amazing view! This was our first time using airbnb & the whole experience was great! Thank you Mark! P.s. My hubby loved the Sonos wireless sound system that was in every room!!!
We enjoyed one of our most enjoyable vacations ever, and it was in large part due to staying at Mark's Hilltop Adobe. As stunning as the photos are, they don't really capture how magical the house and its gardens are. As others have noted, we did not actually explore as much of the region as we intended to, because it was such a delight just to hang out at the casa. We hope to return again for a longer stay!
We loved the warm welcoming feeling that greeted us upon entry to this beautiful hilltop home that was tastefully decorated and minutes to downtown and the beach by car. Upon entry we were greeted with Christmas music and a wonderful gift basket that made our stay even more enjoyable. The views are breathtaking and not properly captured by the pictures. Our only regret was not booking this place for longer.
Our stay at the Hilltop Adobe was wonderful! Upon our arrival we were welcomed with a basket of goodies and helpful information to help navigate the home's features - firepit, sound system, et al. The description Mark provided of the home was accurate, and the home exceeded our expectations. The home was beautifully and comfortably appointed - linens were excellent, cozy blankets available for outdoors and indoors, and I could lounge on the couch for hours. We had everything we needed to relax by the fireplace indoors and the fire pit outdoors, whip up a great meal (Mark also has an excellent cookbook collection!) and enjoy breathtaking views from most rooms (including the master bathroom!). The neighborhood was very quiet which was ideal for us; our trip was a mini-honeymoon and we were ready to relax after a whirlwind wedding week. The home is also convenient to downtown Santa Barbara, a quick 10 min drive at most and we were at the beach, or on State Street. We used UberX one night, which was $10 one-way. We highly recommend the Hilltop Adobe for those who want the comforts of a thoughtful and inviting home with indoor-outdoor space and spectacular views. We plan to return.
We arrived to the Hilltop Adobe and were afraid we had the wrong house as it was well-lit and music was playing when we walked in the front door. It seemed almost too perfect to walk in and feel so "at home". Once we confirmed that we were indeed in the right place, we noticed a lovely welcome basket, filled with cheese, crackers, fruit and wine and a fireplace just begging us to sit and stay a while. This home is beautifully appointed and you cannot help but sit and enjoy the breathtaking view, clear from most of the house, as well as the expansive back patio. We loved every moment of our time there and look forward to returning as soon as possible. What a delight the Hilltop Adobe turned out to be!
This house is a dream, perfect for an escape from LA and a great spot from which to explore Santa Barbara and its environs. The pictures are very accurate, but can only convey a fraction of the tranquility of this spot. We never saw or heard neighbors or cars, and had only the birds to keep us company in the morning. The house is beautifully appointed and fully equipped, the garden lush, the view spectacular. We had breakfast on the terrace every morning, and spent every evening drinking wine and watching the sunset turn the mountains pink.
Mark was available by text whenever we had questions and popped by to make sure we had everything we needed. Plus we found a fantastic basket of wine and snacks waiting for us on arrival.
Location: It takes less than ten minutes to get downtown for groceries and restaurants, quick access to the 101 for visits to Los Olivos, Ojai, or the beaches.
Tips: Do your grocery shopping on the way in because once you've arrived, you won't want to leave. I had lists of recommended restaurants in Santa Barbara and we dined out only two times. The house is just that great. Treat yourself!
The Host made us feel very welcome. The ambiance of the home was like a movie scene. Soft lights were on, beautiful music was playing and the fans were circulating cool air. A beautiful welcoming basket of delights were waiting for us on the kitchen counter which we very much appreciated and are thankful for. A book of instructions was at the counter that explained everything in detail. The neighborhood was lovely and very quiet. All in all, it was a great experience.
