If you are into architecture: this is the first house that Victor Horta built. The attic used to be my photo studio, now it is a place to host my guests. It's a nice open space under the roof, with a fully equipped kitchen and a private bathroom. You will love the light. And you will love Ghent... PS. No need to use your car, you are in the city-center.

The space

The house has four floors, you would occupy the top floor. It has a large bedroom with a double bed (140cm), a kitchen, dining table, work desk and sofa, refrigerator, coffee machine, and toaster. On the third floor, you have a private bathroom and toilet. Please note there is no elevator.

My house is very much in the center of Ghent, you can reach everything that is worth seeing on foot. The tramway is around the corner.

Ghent is treat if you like art, good bars, restaurants and a university crowd. It is also the perfect base to visit Antwerp, Brussels and Brugge by train or by car (all are on +/- 50 km). I will share some suggestions on what to visit and where to eat, if you are interested.

If you are friendly traveler, you will find a nice place in a great city.

Thx and see you in Ghent.

Guest access

You will be renting the top floor of my house. The studio has all the infrastructure of an independent apartment (kitchen, private bathroom etc...). On that floor, you will have full privacy. I live on the first two floors. We share the same entrance and staircase so we will meet occasionally. I hope we can mutually enjoy these brief encounters.

Interaction with guests

It would be nice if we can find time for a coffee and a chat during your stay. No pressure but while I am not traveling myself, you are my link with the rest of the World :-)

Other things to note

Please be aware that the studio is not a good fit for babies and children and that the maximum number of guests is two. Thank you for your understanding.

Staying at Frank's was great. When we arrived we chatted and he made coffee for us. The neighborhood is great, close to the center. The room is spacious and very nice. I would definitely recommend staying here during your stay in in Ghent!

Our whole experience in Frank's house was nice. The flat is exactly how you can see in the pictures and the cleaning was perfect . He received us with a good coffee and he recommended some things about Belgium in general. Location is very confortable, just 5-8 minutes to the city centre. We hadn't any problem for the check out due to Frank was very flexible. Strongly recommendable!!

Frank made us feel welcome and went out of his way to accommodate our plans when they changed slightly on the day. The room and house are beautiful in a minimalist way and we really enjoyed having our own space in the attic. Ghent is a beautiful city and we couldn't have asked for a better base to enjoy it from.

Unfortunately, our stay with Frank was not at all enjoyable. As we were getting ready to go out on our first morning at Frank’s, Frank came up to our private bathroom at around 9.30 and began to criticize us for not respecting the house rules by having brought our 6-month-old baby with us to his house. Before booking, we hadn’t seen that children are not welcome at his home. Nor did he mention this when we arrived the afternoon before. If we had known that a baby was not allowed, we would never have booked his place. We apologized for our mistake and offered to leave. He simply replied to keep quiet since his house carries a lot of noise. We were quite confused since our little girl hadn’t been crying or wasn’t being fussy and we were only talking while getting ready to leave. We asked if we had disturbed him the evening or night before, but Frank said he hadn’t heard anything. We then left the house and didn’t come back until the evening, so we wouldn’t in some way disturb him. We quietly put our baby girl to sleep, packed our bags, and tidied up the bedroom and bathroom so we could leave immediately the next morning and not in some way disturb Frank. We left as early as possible the next morning and messaged him later, in spite of everything, to thank him for our stay and let him know where we had left the key…Frank never responded. We clearly understand that we should have more carefully read Frank’s house rules about not welcoming children. This was entirely our mistake. However, we don’t believe that having brought a baby justifies Frank being so inhospitable.

Frank's studio was awesome, very big, clean and lots of light. Communication with Frank was perfect, we even arrived 1 hour late and he contacted us in order to provide directions. He even offered us a coffee as soon as we stepped in !! :D I would recommend Frank as a host and would definitely visit again his studio.

We had the pleasure of staying at Frank's during the Christmas holiday and couldn't be happier! Exactly as described and keep in mind you will have to climb a few levels of stairs. We arrived a bit later than expected however Frank still welcomed us with a coffee and nice conversation. Superb location, less than 10min walking to the city centre.
