THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Nice rooms, clean bathrooms, and a kitchen available to guests with a refrigerator and tables to store and prepare meals. Also two terraces, one with a garden, where you can hang out, have a coffee, chat, and, if you're lucky, see hummingbirds, geckos, parrots or monkeys!
Free wireless internet for home use. And we can help you arrange samba classes, surf classes, or city tours...
Located on Santo Amaro Street, exactly between Gloria and Santa Teresa Disctrict, one of the most traditional areas of Rio de Janeiro, Very bucolic, bohemian, and old!
Street safe for walking. Close to many sights of Rio de Janeiro, as the Sugar Loaf, Flamengo Beach, Marina da Gloria, the Republic Museum, Lapa and the central region. Lapa is one of the most hectic and bohemian night spots with the best of Rio de Janeiro's restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
5 minutes walk from Gloria metro station, which makes it convenient to visit other neighborhoods.
On the same street you will find markets, pharmacies, restaurants, hospitals, bars and cafes.
Perfect place for backpackers who like to explore the city, nature and all the happiness around, in a very cool and safe location.
Welcome to Rio everybody!
Make yourself at home, respect the house, and the others :D
Andre was a great host and his place is awesome!! It has an artisy feel with diverse styles and history in every room. While the place itself is located on a steep hill, its easy to get to and navigate. The metro was about a 10 minute walk from the house, local stores and restaurants are minutes away. You a 20 minute walk or short cab ride to Lapa where you can enjoy some Brazilian nightlife. The neighbourhood has a nice bohemian vibe to it and I felt very safe in the area. Andre was an incredible host and give us great advice on where to eat, local spots to visit and he's an awesome samba drum instructor! He's patient and always available to answer any questions or concerns you may have. I would highly recommend this place for any traveller who is looking for a comfortable and authentic experience in Rio.
Well, what can I say except that my stay with Andre was amazing. I was only meant to stay for three nights but ended up staying at his beautiful home for a week.
Andre: From the outset Andre was very communicative; he answered whatever queries I had- no matter the time of day/night/early morning! He took time out of his schedule to hang out with me, tour me around the neighbourhood to the main attractions, good restaurants and beach! He introduced me to his cool friends, off the hook parties... we just had a lot of fun! Andre is very cool and passionate about his job(s). He has great stories to tell- make sure he tells you about the grandma/wife story--> I never laughed so hard!
The house: The house lives up to the pictures. It's very artsy, and if you're into antiques you'll be in heaven! All of the rooms are very spacious... my room had an en suite bathroom, a balcony and a living room! Great deal! The kitchen is also fairly well equipped, there is not problem in preparing your own meals. We ate together often with the other house guests and shared many a beer!
The area: I felt safe staying in Santa Teresa; the neighbours were nice, there wasn't any trouble, everyone respects one another. You can buy snacks at the nearby kiosks, there is a bakery at the end of the road, and the nearest metro station is 10 mins away.
Be prepared to walk- my legs are much firmer now because of the amount of walking I did as the house sits on top of a hill. The view of the rolling hills is beautiful.
Also, it's around 20 mins walking distance from Lapa, which has a great party scene!
In sum, I'd definitely stay here again. I enjoyed the mini-apartment I had, Andre's and the other guests' company, and the area.
Muito obrigada Andre- see you soon, beijos x
This was my second time staying with Andre, my room was quiet and cool, with a spacious verandah with hammock and lounging area. Andre was, as always, very accommodating and generous with his time and flexibility. I love the location, it gives a true sense of the neighborhoods in Santa Teresa with street life. I mostly travel alone and have felt safe walking around. There is easy access to shops, the metro, buses and Prai Flamengo.
I had a great time at Andre's. He's a very friendly and considerate host, and made me feel at home. I stayed for five weeks, and Andre became a friend. We hung out and he invited me to join in the things he was doing. Attending practices of his Carnaval orchestra was a wonderful experience.
The room itself was great. I was on the 2nd floor. There's a living room I used for work, a large, comfortable bed and bedroom, and an excellent balcony with views of the neighborhood.
The house is in a good location. It's a short walk to the heights of Santa Theresa, and Gloria avenue and metro are nearby. The street itself is a nice community.
I'll definitely be going back when I return to Rio.
yes, everything was ok, though there were some misunderstanding about the keys
We had a fantastic stay! There aren't enough words to describe how thankful and grateful we are for finding Andre and his place. The loveliest & warmest home away from home! We already miss colorful walls, fresh mangoes, cozy terrace, rooster‘s crow and many many more...
But the most amazing thing was that we came as strangers and depart as best friends :-)!
We will be back Andre! Thank you for taking such a good care of two crazy Lithuanian girls :-)

“The best things in life are the simplest things. Sometimes I ask myself why I paddle out, catch a wave and paddle back out, over and over again, like a dog? It just feels good – simple as that.”
