The Space

Porta Sabbionara apartments were built just five years ago on a street that leads directly to the shore and beach of Koum Kapi. Situated only 50 meters from the sea front, the apartments are walking distance from the center of the city and the Old Venetian port. It is a modern four-story building, consisting of one apartment on each of the first two floors and a duplex apartment taking up the top two.

The first-floor apartment consists of one bedroom, a bathroom with a shower, a living room, a kitchen, and a balcony with sea view. The apartment is fully furnished.
The Porta Sabbionara apartments are recommended for those who may wish to swim every day of their holidays at the nearby beach, enjoying the clear waters even at 7AM before breakfast and their daily program. At the same time they are conveniently near the town center, giving visitors the opportunity to take a walk in the streets of the old town, have a coffee or dinner, shopping and sight seeing in the old port, visit museums, or even take a guided bus tour around the city.
We can provide you with all the information you may need to make your stay pleasant, for example the secret that the best bakery in town is only 50 m away. We can also arrange for car or motorcycle rentals and recommend day trips to important sites in and around the city of Chania.

  • We loved our week-long stay in this great apartment. It is very spacious, light and airy, and well-equipped with everything you could need. We love to cook at home and found this apartment was perfect, with a great stove, fridge and full complement of kitchenware. Irini's husband, Leonidas, was there to greet us and stopped by several times with huge baskets of fresh citrus fruit, wine, jams and olive oil - he made us feel so at home.

The location is perfect: there are excellent shops just up the steps on the main street. It's only a 10-minute walk to the central Chania market and shopping area. It's also just steps to the beach and waterfront area.

Irini and Leonidas's apartment really is an architectural gem, just as they are gems as hosts. We would love to stay there again anytime. One of our best Airbnb experiences. Thank you, Irini and Leonidas!

  • The apartment was lovely - clean, spacious, and in a great location for walking into town.
Irini herself was absolutley amazing - she greeted us at the apartment with wine, bread, jam and cheese and was very accommodating when we wanted to turn up a bit earlier than originally requested.
Would definately reccommend this apartment :)

  • We stayed in Irini's apartment for 12 days and thoroughly enjoyed it. Irini was an excellent host. She gave us clear directions to get to the apartment and was there to greet us and advise us on places to go, good restaurants, supermarkets, the local bakery which had delicious bread and yogurt and the great market held on Saurdays close to the apartment.
The apartment is compact, but very comfortable. Location, just outside the wall of the old town and metres from the waterfront, is excellent.

  • Irini went way beyond what one would expect from a host. She was there for awkward arrival and departure times and supplied a selection of home made "goodies" during our week's stay. The apartment was first class in its design (well, mind yourself bending down in the shower and needs a kettle!) and first class in its location. Perfect for wandering into the restaurants of old Chania, and staggering back! Buses and taxis also only a short walk away. We could get quite used to living like this! All-in-all a wonderful relaxing break.

  • It was a pleasure to be able to stay at this lovely place. Not only was it clean and bright, it definitely was the architectural gem as advertised. Additionally, the location was a short walk from city centre and also near the airport which made my early flight a lot easier to catch.

On a personal note, we appreciated the timely help that Irini provided with regards to the bus schedule from Heraklion to Chania and for finding us information for the Samaria Gorge excursion. It made planning my trip to Chania a lot easier.

I would definitely stay here again when I come back to Chania.

Thank you for a lovely time.

  • We are a young couple, and we stayed at Irini's place during our honeymoon in Crete. It was wonderful, and we actually didn't want to leave: in the end we stayed there one night longer than planned. First of all, it really is an architectural gem, both outside and inside. Very comfortable and cosy, all the equipment works properly (the kitchen got all it needs to really cook in it) and so does the wi-fi. There is also a nice, small balcony. Secondly, we would totally recommand this location for those who want to stay within walking distance of Chania and still avoid the downsides of a touristic city. You've got plenty of place to park for free in the road where the apartment is located, and the old arbour is fifteen minutes away on foot (five to the walls of Chania). Minimarket, bakeries and bars are close. Last but not least, the communication with Irini and her family was fast and effective, by mail and by phone. All in all, a great experience!

  • Amazing experience! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The apartment is literally steps from the ocean and a few mins walk into the old town.
Saturdays there is a local farmers market where we got fresh, organic veggies and fruits. Two blocks away is a local bakery making brick oven breads and pasteries-very good. Lots of little eateries around with reasonable pricing, and the welcome that we received from Irini and her family was awesome,

Highly recommend a stay here and if we ever came back to Crete, we'd love to stay here again.

  • Thanks to our hosts for a wonderful stay in their apartment in Chania! They went out of their way to meet us after midnight when our bus arrived, and helped us out ahead of time with the trip planning. In addition they kindly left a bunch of fresh oranges from their own farm and a juicer (delicious!), a bottle of wine from their organic vineyard, and some homemade jams among other things. What a treat!
The apartment is clean and modern and excellently located. It's just a few houses away from a small beach and tons of great restaurants. It's only a few blocks away from the port and old town walls. It was walking distance to everything, and is in a 'real' Cretan neighbourhood (ie. not too touristy).

  • My husband and I were in Crete for a week on our honeymoon and we really enjoyed our stay here at this apartment. We were welcomed with oranges freshly picked (which we used to make fresh orange juice every morning!), local cheese, tomatoes and bread and organic wine! What a treat!
The apartment is fully equipped, very clean and comfortable. The photos represent the apartment very well- what you see is what you get. lots of natural light and a cool breeze if you open the windows but there is also aircon if you need it. It is also in a great location where the huge indoor market, bus station, restaurants etc is within 15 minutes walk. It is also in a quiet area which might be important for those who are light sleepers.

Irini is very patient at answering all your questions and emails. She gave us lots of restaurant suggestions nearby. They were so good we returned a couple of times! Very cheap as well compared to eating out in other European cities (e.g. Lyon which was where we were before Crete).

We'd stay here again. Thanks Irini!

About
I was born in Athens, studied archaeology in Florence, and since 1985 live in Chania with my husband, who is an architect, and my two sons.We run the apartments business together depending on the circumstances, retaining the high quolity of our services all year round .
I love this place because it has a wonderful countryside and beautiful beaches.
I also love to swim, and here one can swim even during the winter, as the temperatures are not too low. In my spare time I like to hike in the mountains or stay at home reading about the history of Crete. I love cooking using fresh, organic Cretan products. I
