Shark Key is a peninsula that extends from US Route 1 into Florida Bay on the Gulf of Mexico side of the Keys just 7 miles from Key West. It is surrounded by turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, lush vegetation and spicy aromas.
Charted in the 1800's, Shark Key was named by early explorers for its shark-like shape. This exclusive gated island community boasts more than two miles of shoreline, lush foliage, sparkling lagoon, and some of the most exquisite waterfront homes in the Florida Keys. Stunning water vistas provide a timeless backdrop for a one-of-a-kind vacation experience, Shark Key is a perfect island paradise.
Common to the 32 houses on the island, you will find a clubhouse, two tennis courts, a picture perfect swimming lagoon with a Bahamian sand beach which complete this idyllic setting. Chairs scattered throughout the gardens invite residents to bask under the myriad of palm trees.
The lagoon and clubhouse are accentuated by the sculpture of a heron taking flight from a mangrove tree and wood carvings of smiling dolphins guarding the clubhouse. Natural artwork also abounds in the form of bougainvillea, frangipani, royal poincianna and other tropical flowers. Coral rock excavated from nearby lagoons is used extensively in guardrail columns, mailbox pedestals, and gateways. Heavy chains, salvaged from a decommissioned Navy ship, line the winding streets.
We stayed at les Miserai with a group of 21 people last weekend. We stayed in both the main castle and its annex. We had a fantastic weekend. The castle is well equipped, clean and located in a lovely area. There is a Carrefour 10 minutes away (by car) from the castle, which is very convenient. The annex is nice too and our friends who stayed there had a comfortable time. We also used the barn in the evening after dinner. Great location to chill in front of the chimney, while listening to some music. Dominique, was always quick to respond to our requests and messages, which was really appreciated. More importantly, Christian (Dominique’s brother) was such a wonderful host. He helped us plan some activities on the Saturday, by providing us with useful information so that some of us could horse ride. We also did some cycling and walked in the countryside. Every year we organise a weekend like this one, but we have to say that this year was the best by far and this is, in part, due to the location we chose and the way Christian welcomed us. The history of the castle is interesting too for those who like a bit of history. We would not hesitate to come back again. Thanks again Christian and Dominique. Liliane and Thomas
I had the chance to stay at the Castel of Miserai for a week-end with some friends.
We had an amazing time. The property and its amenities are perfect.
The landlord is a very nice person, very accommodating and he will make sure you have great stay.
I strongly recommend this place and I do hope I'll have the chance to stay there again.
I live in Paris and myself and a bunch of friends rented the Chateau for 8 nights. We had an amazing time! The property is beautiful and so is the Chateau. The Salle de Chasse is incredible! We enjoyed our stay very much. Monsieur Levesque is so nice and helpful and he was very quick to respond to issues we had. The bicycles were in good condition and we enjoyed riding around the countryside. There was plenty of wood to make fires (the barn is not heated. You must build a fire). The beds are INCREDIBLY comfortable. The BBQ is large and very nice, easy to cook for large groups on.
A few notes for future renters: The guest house is not private or secure. There is a man that lives in the other half and his part is connected by doors in the bedroom that do not lock. He told us that he walks through the guest house to get in our out of his apartment. Because of this, we decided not to use the guest house. There is no privacy and your belongings would not be secure. Also, "full access" isn't quite correct. The main room in the Barn we were only allowed to walk through. We could not access the bar, the mezzanine art gallery, or the sound system/projector which are there. The pool was also closed, despite it being indoors and heated. I hope in the future with more constant bookings, they will keep it open year round. Also, the bathroom in the barn was locked so we had to walk all the way to the house each time. This was a big inconvenience, but we managed.
In conclusion, our stay at the Chateau was still excellent. We recommend this to everyone. Our group will be back again soon, hopefully! I hope you enjoy your stay at Miserai as much as we did! :)
Guesthouse bedrooms were recently added to the rental. We have since installed locks on the doors in order to have a totally private setting in the guesthouse. The barn sound system is reserved for receptions. It can only be operated (email hidden), it is located behind a locked gate and is not mentioned in the Airbnb description. We have another sound system in the hunt room available to tenants. The bar in the barn is reserved for receptions as well, tenants have access to the hunt room bar. The pool is not heated and indeed closed at this time of year however the Jacuzzi is open as clearly indicated in the listing. Barn bathrooms were temporarily closed for repairs, we apologize to Matt for the inconvenience. We do provide full access to the property however the domain is often used for weddings and receptions of up to 300 people. Equipment used for this type of venue is not available to Airbnb guests.
Top. Un vrai plaisir.
