This authentic thatched cottage is a simple, cosy, remote retreat close to stunning Dooey strand, popular with surfers. It has a really relaxed atmosphere and is a brilliant place to escape to with friends or family on the Wild Atlantic Way.

The space
This early 20th century cottage, known locally as Katie Byrne's house, is a rare survivor of its kind. With its thatched roof, thick stone walls and half-door, this is a very solid, characterful retreat.

The living areas are surprisingly generous, with the living room space soaring up to the rafters - where you'll see some of the turf poking through!

The kitchen is very small, but pretty well appointed. One of the bedrooms and a bath(shower) room is located in the outhouse to the rear.

If you love cosy, rough and ready, as I do, then you will enjoy getting holed up here.

The cottage is located in Lettermacaward, at the farthest edge of west Donegal, a friendly area within the Gaeltacht (Irish speaking area). It really is remote - your immediate neighbours are the neighbour's chickens, with only a handful of occupied houses on the road.
The beach is about 10-15 minutes' walk away, and the shop is about 5 minutes' drive away.
