A third-floor oasis in the heart of the Garden District. The room features a queen-size bed, private bath, a reading nook, and a private balcony with sweeping views of New Orleans, all shaded by a stately live oak tree.
Located in the heart of the Garden District, the Parks-Bowman Mansion is a classic example of the good life in New Orleans. Shaded by palm trees and a live oak, the deep porches on all three levels tempt you to rest and relax. The soaring center hall leads visitors to a carved cypress staircase ascending to the very top of the house, lit by stained-glass windows and massive chandeliers. There’s a music room, a formal dining room, a “ladies parlor,” and a fully appointed kitchen where you can enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee in the morning. Outside, a lovely garden surrounds a back porch for lounging and a full size lap-pool.
There are three rooms available. This listing is for the Haunted Bedroom. Don’t worry, our ghost (a young girl in a yellow dress from the 1890s) is very shy; you probably won’t see her, although some people swear she exists! If you prefer, please check out our other listings: the Red Room, and the Library.
The Haunted Bedroom features a queen-size bed and sitting area, and is the largest bedoom available in the house. It features a full shower bath, and also offer immediate access to the third-floor porch, with its sweeping views of New Orleans.
All rooms have internet access, and the Haunted Bedroom also has its own TV.
Our dogs (Moxie and Loebie) look forward to greeting you at the front gate, and our three cats (Mudbug, Tootie, and Zoolie) look forward to cuddling with you in the evening. Our house is furnished with our extensive art collection, which we’ve acquired in over thirty-five years of travel. Oh, and a little bit about us: Adrienne Parks-Bowman is a novelist and screen-writer, and Bill Bowman is a documentary film-maker, music producer, and web designer.
We can’t wait to share our house with you, and introduce you to the city we know and love so well. We’re right near Lafayette Cemetery, Commander’s Palace, the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line, and the shopping and dining pleasures of Magazine Street. There’s plenty of secure parking on our quiet street, and if you come for Mardi Gras, you’ll be just steps away from the parades! Come visit us and make us your home-away-from-home in New Orleans!
Guests will have a private bed and bath, and access to the dining and living rooms, as well as the front and back porches, and the swimming pool. You're also welcome to share our kitchen with us in the morning for coffee!
Interaction with Guests
We live and work in our home, so you can see as little or as much of us as you want! We're available for tales of New Orleans lore and sight-seeing tips.
The Garden District feels like a small town, located in the very middle of New Orleans. You're close to the French Quarter, the Museum District, and the Bywater, as well as Audubon Park, the Zoo, City Park, and highways, if you want to take a jaunt to the countryside for plantation or swamp tours. The Garden District itself is justly famous for its stately mansions, lush landscaping, and Lafayette Cemetery (open for tours), and Magazine Street and its restaurants and shops is only two blocks away!
We're located three blocks from the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar line, one of the main ways to get around town. We're also two blocks from a major bus line on Magazine Street. Yet the neighborhood is quiet and lends itself to leisurely strolls, and there's plenty of safe on-street parking.
We're located about 20 minutes from Louis Armstrong International airport, and there are plenty of cabs available from the airport, as well as a shuttle-service.
We have two dogs who stay OUTDOORS and two cats who stay INDOORS. Please don't reverse them. We live in a quiet residential neighborhood, so no loud noises late at night. We have lots of fragile art in the house, so we can't accommodate very YOUNG children. Sorry, but we can't accommodate more than two people in each room.
Smoking is allowed outside, and we have plenty of balconies!
Our stay over St. Patrick's Day weekend at Adrienne's place was just amazing. She and Bill are fantastic hosts - always ready to chat but never pushy about it - the mansion is in a great location, and is full of a lifetime's collection of books, curios, knick knacks, and oddities.
We stayed in the haunted room. With such friendly people, though, it's hard to be creeped out by the dolls that probably come to life at 3am.
Adrienne is a very friendly host and her house is beautiful. The room looks exactly the same as in pictures. It is well located in a very safe and beautiful neighborhood. The french quarter is easy to access even if you don't have car.
Adrienne provide us useful information about what is going on Nola during your stay.
I do recommend her house.
Adreinne was the perfect hostess. She was always ready with suggestions and answers to any questions we had. And her husband was a font of information about all things music and jazz happening in the area. Very interesting people. We felt very welcome.
Absolutely a treat to stay with Adrienne and Bill! The house itself is quintessential Nola Garden District, a perfect blend of fun/interesting, luxurious, welcoming and happy. Adrienne and Bill are the loveliest and most accommodating hosts you could ever ask for. Plus, they have a ton of great recommendations for the ultimate Nola experience. Do yourself a favor and book here.
I spent 3 nights in the Haunted Room. Please don't stay anywhere else in NOLA. First of all, the house is AMAZING. I won't give you much details so I don't ruin the surprise, you can thank me later. The bed was super comfy! Its nice to be able to sleep as comfortable as I do in my own home. AND if you enjoy books, this house is just a dream. There are books everywhere!
Now, about Adrienne and Bill, they made me feel like family. What a wonderful sweet couple. Being away from my home in Panama and my entire family, this was a close second! Thank you both for your hospitality!
They have two beautiful dogs that are the sweetest. I literally just want to rent a room in their house permanently and cuddle with their dogs.
This place is just the perfect spot for a NOLA visit. :)
From the get-go, Adrienne was welcoming and thoughtful. The house is spectacular, and the space is quiet yet in the middle of it all. Easy walk to restaurants, streetcar, etc. Adrienne will fill you in on all the details over some iced tea. A great NOLA experience, highly recommended.
When we booked this place, we were expecting something amazing... what we found was something even better. We were greeted so warmly and made to feel at home. The place is absolutely incredible. We also loved the location. Easily walking distance from great restaurants and shopping. I would like to thank our hosts for making our first (and certainly not last) trip to New Orleans, one to remember. It exceeded our expectations!
