About this listing
A third-floor oasis in the heart of the Garden District. The room features a queen-size bed, private bath, a reading nook, and a private balcony with sweeping views of New Orleans, all shaded by a stately live oak tree.
Located in the heart of the Garden District, the Parks-Bowman Mansion is a classic example of the good life in New Orleans. Shaded by palm trees and a live oak, the deep porches on all three levels tempt you to rest and relax. The soaring center hall leads visitors to a carved cypress staircase ascending to the very top of the house, lit by stained-glass windows and massive chandeliers. There’s a music room, a formal dining room, a “ladies parlor,” and a fully appointed kitchen where you can enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee in the morning. Outside, a lovely garden surrounds a back porch for lounging and a full size lap-pool.
There are three rooms available. This listing is for the Haunted Bedroom. Don’t worry, our ghost (a young girl in a yellow dress from the 1890s) is very shy; you probably won’t see her, although some people swear she exists! If you prefer, please check out our other listings: the Red Room, and the Library.
The Haunted Bedroom features a queen-size bed and sitting area, and is the largest bedoom available in the house. It features a full shower bath, and also offer immediate access to the third-floor porch, with its sweeping views of New Orleans.
All rooms have internet access, and the Haunted Bedroom also has its own TV.
Our dogs (Moxie and Loebie) look forward to greeting you at the front gate, and our three cats (Mudbug, Tootie, and Zoolie) look forward to cuddling with you in the evening. Our house is furnished with our extensive art collection, which we’ve acquired in over thirty-five years of travel. Oh, and a little bit about us: Adrienne Parks-Bowman is a novelist and screen-writer, and Bill Bowman is a documentary film-maker, music producer, and web designer.
We can’t wait to share our house with you, and introduce you to the city we know and love so well. We’re right near Lafayette Cemetery, Commander’s Palace, the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line, and the shopping and dining pleasures of Magazine Street. There’s plenty of secure parking on our quiet street, and if you come for Mardi Gras, you’ll be just steps away from the parades! Come visit us and make us your home-away-from-home in New Orleans!
Guests will have a private bed and bath, and access to the dining and living rooms, as well as the front and back porches, and the swimming pool. You're also welcome to share our kitchen with us in the morning for coffee!
Interaction with Guests
We live and work in our home, so you can see as little or as much of us as you want! We're available for tales of New Orleans lore and sight-seeing tips.
The Garden District feels like a small town, located in the very middle of New Orleans. You're close to the French Quarter, the Museum District, and the Bywater, as well as Audubon Park, the Zoo, City Park, and highways, if you want to take a jaunt to the countryside for plantation or swamp tours. The Garden District itself is justly famous for its stately mansions, lush landscaping, and Lafayette Cemetery (open for tours), and Magazine Street and its restaurants and shops is only two blocks away!
We're located three blocks from the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar line, one of the main ways to get around town. We're also two blocks from a major bus line on Magazine Street. Yet the neighborhood is quiet and lends itself to leisurely strolls, and there's plenty of safe on-street parking.
We're located about 20 minutes from Louis Armstrong International airport, and there are plenty of cabs available from the airport, as well as a shuttle-service.
We have two dogs who stay OUTDOORS and two cats who stay INDOORS. Please don't reverse them. We live in a quiet residential neighborhood, so no loud noises late at night. We have lots of fragile art in the house, so we can't accommodate very YOUNG children. Sorry, but we can't accommodate more than two people in each room.
Smoking is allowed outside, and we have plenty of balconies!
Adrienne and her husband were great host in this super cool House off St. Charles. We stayed on the third story in the "Haunted" bedroom and enjoyed the pool and balcony. Very much recommended anyone to stay here.
Didn't see any ghosts while we were there but did have a great overnight stay. The whole house is like a museum with artifacts hid in every corner. Our room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. Plenty of reading material in the room and the library just outside the door. Didn't use the pool but it looked fantastic in the garden. Location in the garden district is only a couple blocks from the trolley. The best part of the trip was meeting Adrienne. Both her and Bill are the kind of hosts you want to get to know and represent the best kind of hospitality that New Orleans has to offer.
Adrienne and Bill were fabulous hosts. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived and they were helpful and took interest in making sure we had a great time in New Orleans. The Haunted Room was lovely (although we had wished we'd seen more of the ghost)! Their two dogs are also adorable. We'd definitely go back and recommend this kooky mansion for a unique NOLA visit.
Fabulous hostess. Beautiful home. You have to see this place. It embodies the magic and old world mystery of New Orleans. Thy had Gorgeous and well trained doggies. Adrienne was so knowledgable about New Orleans and history. She was a great storyteller. The bed was very comfortable, had a lovely balcony and well stocked library. I stayed on the Fourth of July, one of the craziest nights of the year and was not once disturbed by street noise. The quiet and tranquility of this place is amazing. Would definitely stay here again.
What a cool experience. Adrienne was incredibly welcoming, and the house she opens up to AirBnb is absolutely awesome and quirky in the best way possible. The neighborhood itself is great, and is a great place to perch yourself for your stay in NoLA, as there is plenty to do to the east, west, and north. I'd be sure to stay here again if I ever pass through.
We really enjoyed our stay in The Haunted Room. Adrienne and Bill are wonderful and very helpful. Their home was just magical! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us!
