About this listing
A third-floor oasis in the heart of the Garden District. The room features a queen-size bed, private bath, a reading nook, and a private balcony with sweeping views of New Orleans, all shaded by a stately live oak tree.
Located in the heart of the Garden District, the Parks-Bowman Mansion is a classic example of the good life in New Orleans. Shaded by palm trees and a live oak, the deep porches on all three levels tempt you to rest and relax. The soaring center hall leads visitors to a carved cypress staircase ascending to the very top of the house, lit by stained-glass windows and massive chandeliers. There's a music room, a formal dining room, a “ladies parlor," and a fully appointed kitchen where you can enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee in the morning. Outside, a lovely garden surrounds a back porch for lounging and a full size lap-pool.
There are three rooms available. This listing is for the Haunted Bedroom. Don't worry, our ghost (a young girl in a yellow dress from the 1890s) is very shy; you probably won't see her, although some people swear she exists! If you prefer, please check out our other listings: the Red Room, and the Library.
The Haunted Bedroom features a queen-size bed and sitting area, and is the largest bedoom available in the house. It features a full shower bath, and also offer immediate access to the third-floor porch, with its sweeping views of New Orleans.
All rooms have internet access, and the Haunted Bedroom also has its own TV.
Our dogs (Moxie and Loebie) look forward to greeting you at the front gate, and our three cats (Mudbug, Tootie, and Zoolie) look forward to cuddling with you in the evening. Our house is furnished with our extensive art collection, which we've acquired in over thirty-five years of travel. Oh, and a little bit about us: Adrienne Parks-Bowman is a novelist and screen-writer, and Bill Bowman is a documentary film-maker, music producer, and web designer.
We can't wait to share our house with you, and introduce you to the city we know and love so well. We're right near Lafayette Cemetery, Commander's Palace, the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line, and the shopping and dining pleasures of Magazine Street. There's plenty of secure parking on our quiet street, and if you come for Mardi Gras, you'll be just steps away from the parades! Come visit us and make us your home-away-from-home in New Orleans!
Guests will have a private bed and bath, and access to the dining and living rooms, as well as the front and back porches, and the swimming pool. You're also welcome to share our kitchen with us in the morning for coffee!
Interaction with Guests
We live and work in our home, so you can see as little or as much of us as you want! We're available for tales of New Orleans lore and sight-seeing tips.
The Garden District feels like a small town, located in the very middle of New Orleans. You're close to the French Quarter, the Museum District, and the Bywater, as well as Audubon Park, the Zoo, City Park, and highways, if you want to take a jaunt to the countryside for plantation or swamp tours. The Garden District itself is justly famous for its stately mansions, lush landscaping, and Lafayette Cemetery (open for tours), and Magazine Street and its restaurants and shops is only two blocks away!
We're located three blocks from the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar line, one of the main ways to get around town. We're also two blocks from a major bus line on Magazine Street. Yet the neighborhood is quiet and lends itself to leisurely strolls, and there's plenty of safe on-street parking.
We're located about 20 minutes from Louis Armstrong International airport, and there are plenty of cabs available from the airport, as well as a shuttle-service.
We have two dogs who stay OUTDOORS and two cats who stay INDOORS. Please don't reverse them. We live in a quiet residential neighborhood, so no loud noises late at night. We have lots of fragile art in the house, so we can't accommodate very YOUNG children. Sorry, but we can't accommodate more than two people in each room.
Smoking is allowed outside, and we have plenty of balconies!
