Located in the heart of the Garden District, the Parks-Bowman Mansion is a classic example of the good life in New Orleans. Shaded by palm trees (email hidden) oak, the deep porches on all three levels tempt you to rest and relax. The soaring center hall leads visitors to a carved cypress staircase ascending to the very top of the house, lit by stained-glass windows and massive chandeliers. There’s a music room, a formal dining room, a “ladies parlor,” and a fully appointed kitchen where you can enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee in the morning. Outside, a lovely garden surrounds a back porch for lounging and a full size lap-pool.
There are three rooms available. This listing is for the Haunted Bedroom. Don’t worry, our ghost (a young girl in a yellow dress from the 1890s) is very shy; you probably won’t see her, although some people swear she exists! If you prefer, please check out our other listings: the Red Room, and the Library.
The Haunted Bedroom features a queen-size bed and sitting area, and is the largest bedoom available in the house. It features a full shower bath, and also offer immediate access to the third-floor porch, with its sweeping views of New Orleans.
All rooms have internet access, and the Haunted Bedroom also has its own TV.
Our dogs (Moxie and Loebie) look forward to greeting you at the front gate, and our three cats (Mudbug, Tootie, and Zoolie) look forward to cuddling with you in the evening. Our house is furnished with our extensive art collection, which we’ve acquired in over thirty-five years of travel. Oh, and a little bit about us: Adrienne Parks-Bowman is a novelist and screen-writer, and Bill Bowman is a documentary film-maker, music producer, and web designer.
We can’t wait to share our house with you, and introduce you to the city we know and love so well. We’re right near Lafayette Cemetery, Commander’s Palace, the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line, and the shopping and dining pleasures of Magazine Street. There’s plenty of secure parking on our quiet street, and if you come for Mardi Gras, you’ll be just steps away from the parades! Come visit us and make us your home-away-from-home in New Orleans!
Adrienne and Bill not only have an amazing, historical and comfortable home but their "Part of the family" approach to all guests is the icing on the king cake! We will be back, best spot in the Garden District!
This was my first Airbnb adventure and it was superb! It stared with me getting lost. I called Adrienne and she was my speaker-phone co-pilot for the next 45 minutes with her New Orleans map spread out on her dining room table and me making my way through the city. I am so thankful for her kind help! Once arrived, there was King Cake, a cold glass of tea and a hug for this weary traveler.
In a few hours, after my friend arrived, it was time to grab lawn chairs, muffulettas (that Adrienne had stocked up on) and walk the few blocks (past Sandra Bullock's home) to St. Charles Avenue to watch our first Mardi Gras parade. What a HOOT! (Having a restroom to use during the parades was so handy)
Lafayette Cemetery #1 is two blocks away. Sign up for the 2 hour free (pay what you feel it's worth) tour. You will get an interesting tour of the cemetery and an excellent tour of the Garden District.
One block away is the Commander's Palace (make a reservation and dress code) but the prices at lunch are reasonable and the 25 cent martinis are stout.
P-B Mansion is in the perfect location! A few blocks south is FUN Magazine street with all it's shops and places to eat. Want to go to the French Quarter? Walk a few blocks north to St. Charles and catch the Street Car or bus. For $1.25 you are there!
I parked my car and never drove it for the three days we were there. It is a safe place to park. I was worried there would be no places to park (since it was Mardi Gras) but there was no problem.
Our room, the Haunted Bedroom, was great. We were not aware of any ghosts. The thermostat controls the third floor and we were very comfortable. The bathroom had great water pressure, quick hot water, lots of hooks to hang your clothes, towels and toiletries bags. The balcony outside has two lounge chairs and made a pleasant place to relax with a cold drink. Adrienne has refrigerator space you can use, an ice maker for your glass, and has the coffee pot all set and ready for you to make coffee if you pad downstairs before she or Bill wake up. Sweet. She is very knowledgable about her neighborhood, the history of Mardi Gras, and will regale you with very pleasant tales.
You will not be sorry you stayed at P-B Mansion. I will definitely stay there again and hope Adrienne and Bill will take me up on my offer to put them up in Fort Worth, Texas, if they ever venture out this way.
Adrienne and Bill, thank you from my heart for my Bucket List trip checked off!!~ Diane
How do I begin? I knew from the pictures that Adrienne's beautiful abode would be a great place to call home during our first visit to New Orleans. The pictures just don't do this amazing place justice! As soon as my husband and I walked in this gorgeous place, we were greeted by a lovely and smiling Adrienne. We felt immediately welcome and as we took in the details of the eclectic decor and rich architecture, we knew we had chosen exactly the right place to spend our week in NOLA. We were of course starving when we arrived and Adrienne was immediately helpful to offer suggestions and directions to some of the many excellent choices in the area. (We especially loved Juan's Flying Burrito and District Donuts & Sliders--both on Magazine and walkable from the P-B Mansion).
Our room was absolutely wonderful. Our own bathroom and easy access to the balcony overlooking the city--yes, ma'am! Light and airy, clean and comfortable. Calm and quiet except for the footsteps on the stairs that my sweet and cynical husband swears he heard the first night! It is known as the haunted bedroom, right? No rustling of the taffeta dress of a little girl, but we'll take our haunting experience and roll with it! We slept great otherwise and were even fortunate enough to fit in an afternoon nap following one of our later nights out on the town. Also, if you need a quiet spot for reflecting on how incredible your trip is, check out the sweet little pool in the backyard.
If you're looking for a true New Orleans experience including a gorgeous mansion built in the 1800's, a vibrant and safe neighborhood full of cool shops, cafes and restaurants, and a helpful, friendly and charming hostess--you've found the right place! We feel so fortunate that we found Adrienne and her home. We had such an amazing week and having a comfy home base from which to walk and catch the nearby streetcar made our week even better. We're already talking about our next trip and we'll definitely be staying at the Parks-Bowman mansion. Wish we were there right now!
Thanks again, Adrienne! You made our experience even more wonderful. We'll be back!
My wife and I renew our vows in a different state every year. This was not my first trip to New Orleans, but it was easily the best, and I credit much of it to this wonderful couple.
So this was my first time at this lovely house...Adrienne began her great service before we ever arrived. She made reservations for me at Commander's Palace. She agreed to play along with some secret plans to surprise my wife, which included a boldface lie told as believably as Kathryn Hepburn. She checked us in early and did not rush us out despite more people arriving. All of this was above and beyond. And it was just the beginning.
A & B are the coolest (email hidden)ey wrote my renewal ceremony and officiated at our "wedding." And it was great! Player piano wedding music, fantastic vestments, including a smooth hat with the all-seeing eye, champagne, handcuffs, and the neatest marriage vows EVER.
They love New Orleans and embrace all the individuality and mystery with abandon. They may be two of the most genuinely kind people I've met. I plan on staying in the haunted bedroom every time I visit the Crescent City, and I look forward to another great trip soon!
Beautiful house and beautiful homeowners. Adrienne and Bill are wonderful people and so generous to open up their home. Looking forward to our next stay with them already!
The mansion was beautiful and interesting , and it was close enough to all the action but far enough to give us a nice and quiet night's rest. Adrienne was a wonderful host and had many great suggestions. Awesome visit, I loved it!
I liked it so much I wanted to move in. They made me feel like family.
Adrienne and Bill were amazing hosts. Coming back for Halloween, I'm not done with New Orleans, yet.
Adrienne is just the best! The room was a perfect size and a connected bath. House was incredibly interesting. There was private balcony off the third floor. Every inch of the entire home is interesting and she was VERY helpful in providing local information. We made it through the week just using the nearby trolley service and walking which was a great way to see the area.
Great place to stay in a cool part of town. The house is really cool and has a lot of history. Adrienne was a great host and very knowledgeable and helpful. I would highly recommend staying in any of the rooms in this awesome house.
What a wonderful stay! If you're looking for a quirky place to stay, Adrienne's cool home is a perfect stay. We can't thank Adrienne enough, her incredibly laid back, warm and friendly personality made us feel instantly welcome. She even did our washing for us and while I wouldn't want to take advantage of this, it certainly is a testament to what a brilliant host she is.
We loved our time in Nola and would recommend highly to all!
