Quaint and cheerful home in a quiet neighborhood in the area of Bellmont. Just 5 minutes from I64!
House is next to a park, and a bus stop which goes to UVA and beyond, 10 minute walk to several restaurants in Bellmont area or 15 min walk to the historic downtown walking mall (many shops and restaurants and the Ntelos Pavilion), 10 minute drive to Jefferson's Monticello and 5 min drive to the UVA campus. A gas station and convenience store is just 2 blocks away.
1st bedroom has a double bed, 2nd bedroom has a cushy double size futon bed with memory foam mattress topper, and the futon couch in the living room folds out to a double size bed. Plenty of closet space, hangers and iron provided for guest use. Can accommodate up to 5 people House has an cozy eat-in kitchen, single bath with tub, comfortable living room with wi-fi great books to read and an awesome back yard with: deck, patio, a lovely garden and a fire pit.
Plenty of parking along the street in front of the house.
There is a TV which can be hooked up to a computer or the DVD player, but no cable (pretty much no channels at all).
All linens, continental breakfast and locally roasted coffee provided.
For those of you who have already booked and may have been looking forward to the animal companionship: This house is unfortunately no longer occupied by my little cat friend who passed away at the beginning of April.
The kitchen is fully equipped and encouraged for your use. There is a guest shelf in the fridge and space in the freezer to keep your cold things cold.
There is a bus stop just 1/2 block from the house which goes directly to the downtown transit center (at the east end of the downtown mall). The neighborhood is quite safe and you can easily walk to the center of Bellmont where there are several nice restaurants (10 min walk) or to the downtown mall (20min walk) for greater variety or the see a show (Jefferson Theater, Regal Cinema, Paramount Theater and the Ntelos Wireless Pavilion) I enjoy watching (listening to) shows at the Pavillion as a "voyeur" "from the Avon bridge.
I had a wonderful stay! Everything was as described. My sister and I enjoyed the time to relax in a peaceful, comfortable space and loved that there was a park, great restaurants, and shops within walking distance. If we come back next year for the Charlottesville Marathon, I hope we can stay again!
Overall, we had a nice stay in Charlottesville. Gwendolyn was very responsive and even suggested that we cancel one of our nights to avoid the expected snow so we would be able to get a refund. She left us a detailed note about the house and provided coffee from my favorite coffee place in the area (Shenandoah Joe). We were unable to enjoy the outdoor space much because it was raining, chilly, or dark most of the time we were at the house, but it was a very cute space that would been used if the weather cooperated a bit more.
My biggest complaint was Mr. Boo the cat. He was very sweet and the idea of having a cat at the house was never a problem to me, but we were asked to make sure he was inside at least between 11pm and 6am and he didn't like this. He quickly came inside when asked but then meowed for a while before eventually stopping and going to sleep. He then woke us up between 6 and 7am crying to go outside each morning. It was not clear to me that he needed to go outside first thing in the morning when reading reviews or talking with Gwendolyn. If I had known, I wouldn't have stayed here.
Another thing I will mention just to inform future guests is that, while the downtown mall is close enough to walk, it is pretty dark and deserted at night. We expected to be able to walk the whole weekend because a 20 minute walk isn't very far. We ended up taking cabs or driving in the evenings and walking during the day. This doesn't affect my review of the place (it's my fault for not looking into it more), but I just wanted to mention it because it was unexpected based on other reviews.
Gwendolyn was a wonderful host and the house was comfortable -- just what we needed. Besides helping making our trip smooth, even with a last minute change to our check-in time, she saved the day when I accidentally left some toiletries (including an electronic toothbrush) behind, making sure we were able to get the stuff before we left town. Thanks Gwendolyn!!!
We very much enjoyed our stay at Gwendolyn's house. When we arrived and were greeted with a warm welcome from our host. A wonderful surprise to find whole grain
bread, yummy jam and butter in the refrigerator.. We enjoyed the good tasting coffee along with the complementary half and half. Her house was clean, warm & cozy in a quiet neighborhood. Boo the cat was a pleasurable addition to our visit.

A wonderful place to stay. Comfortable beds, wonderful kitchen, and Boo the cat is great. Gwendolyn was a welcoming host, and gave me and my friend some great suggestions for hikes and places to check out. I would definitely return!
We stayed two nights at Gwendolyn's house for 2014 New Year. As it was stated here, the house is very cozy and also it has very nice location with pretty view on mountains. There were all necessary to make holiday dinner. Mr. Boo the cat was very hospitable and communicative. We enjoyed time spent there. Thanks to Gwendolyn for this place!
Gwen's home in C-ville was incredible. It was the perfect retreat for our vacation. A home away from home. There were plenty of books to ogle, tea and coffee to drink and other yummy treats Gwen had for us upon our arrival. The house kitty, Boo, was a sweet little kitty and we adored having him around. Gwen was very helpful and hospitable and was communicative with us during our entire stay.
We will certainly stay at Gwen's house on our next trip to C-ville.
Gwendolyn provided a perfect place for my friends and I to stay while in Charlottesville for a wedding. Easy to find on a cute street near Belmont Park. Two comfortable bedrooms, a homey kitchen and a sweet, low maintenance cat to play with. Shower had good water pressure (important as the days get a little colder!). Would have loved to stay a little longer and check out Charlottesville.
The home was wonderfully cozy, perfectly clean, and very comfortable. A perfect place to relax for a couple of days!
The house was within walking distance to downtown. It was clean. The cat named Boo was no problem. Very friendly. The back porch was great in the morning. I would stay there again. No problems.
