Welcome, are you looking to recharge or escape the hustle and bustle of the city. This cottage is snuggled in a secluded valley and has panoramic views of the lush green farmland and native New Zealand bush. There is a 2 hour walk to the historic Lime Mine through a Bush Reserve, or just watch the cows meandering pass the house from the window seat. We have everything you need to make your stay comfortable plus no noise, no light pollution, a great get away spot, indoor shower & outdoor baths

The space
A relaxing restored original 1930's farm house, made from the timber cleared from the farm. A perfect spot to recharge your batteries, whether is just sitting in the window seat watching the cows meander past or if you are curious about NZ farm life and the history of the Mokau River, we have something special just for you. Only 4km from the Statehighway 3 but miles away from stress and concrete jungles.
Enjoy the spacious large farm style kitchen and living area, great for entertaining or just relaxing and enjoying the rural views. There is farm walks, 2 hours walk to the historic Lime Mine or a Hill climb with spectacular views.

Kitchen is equipped with a large gas hob and electric oven, microwave and large fridge/freezer and dishwasher. A 50 inch T.V. is in the lounge along with a selection of movies and freeview, there is cell phone coverage with spark on the patio, but not inside the house. Indoor bathroom with shower and 2 fire outdoor baths heated by fire. Also an outdoor fire pit, a great area to tell yarns and roast marshmallows. A cosy indoor fire to sit around on a rainy day.
If you are looking for a large group booking there is a smaller house to rent on the property 2 minutes walk from this house.

15 minutes drive to Mokau with its black sand beaches, cafes known for their delicious whitebait fritters. The Mokau museum is a must.
75minutes drive to Waitomo.
30 minutes drive to The Three Sisters and Elephant Rock.

A perfect stop between Waitomo and Taranaki and a chance to experience a real rural environment and farming atmosphere only 5 minutes off state highway 3.

The farm is on the Mokau River, once a bustling place with coal and lime mines, a book in the house has all the history of this area. The house is approximately 15 minutes drive to the Mokau Village, Mokau is also known for its great whitebaiting, fishing, surfing and beautiful black sand beaches.
The shops in Mokau shut between 6 and 7 pm.

We are Countryside Cottages, my husband and I are blessed to have a family of 8 children, family is the most important thing to us, I grew up on the Hakari farm and my husband grew up on the Hutiwai farm. we love our small rural community and we are looking forward to sharing all this with you, to enjoy a relaxing and peaceful escape.
My husband and I are down to earth and love the unique environment around us, our family won an environment Award from the Taranaki Region Council for the planting of the Hutiwai stream for the conservation of the Whitebait and we work closely with the Taranaki Kiwi Trust and their breeding program.
