Marian is a fantastic host and she made us feel welcome from the time we arrive until we left. She offered us breakfast and we had wine and cheese with her in the evening. The cottage was a great place to create a home base in wine country and had everything we needed. Most importantly, the bed was extremely comfortable. The back garden was very peaceful and we were only a few blocks from Healdsburg town square. Highly recommended!
Your hostess Marian is kind and solicitous without being cloying. One regret I have about the trip is not having spent more time with her. She is complex, good-humored and intelligent.
The cottage itself is as described, in a little garden. There are lots of acanthus in the forecourt which impressed me because they won't grow for me. The garden is pretty in winter and should be lovely in the summer. The main house bears a "historic building 1882" plaque and it is as well kept as the cottage. The resident cats are indifferent, there was a tantalizing idea that the cat who 'owns' the cottage would want to come in, but that did not happen. It is eight minutes' walk from the door to Healdsburg's central plaza, which is a throwback to a more innocent time: it has restaurants and shops surrounding a pretty, convivial green square.
The cottage is cozy and mostly well-equipped; we lacked for little. The kitchen is a bit sparse, with neither cooktop nor oven; you will not be preparing bœuf Bourguignon there. Marian makes up for it in the morning with well-selected and high-quality breakfast items. It is warm enough and the (gas) stove provides a romantic ambiance. The bed is very comfortable as are the furnishings.
Marian's recommendations about local wineries and restaurants are judiciously chosen and they all pleased us.
This is a good place to go if you want to feel as though you are at home, without the travails.
Lovely cottage behind a beautiful Victorian house. Mariam was an amazing host. Opened a bottle of wine for us upon our arrival, made sure we knew the in's and out's of the place, then gave all the privacy we could have wanted. The cottage sits in a lovely garden with private little sitting areas sprinkled about. And it's just a few blocks walking distance to the downtown square. Very highly recommended.
Pretty darn ideal. She was the perfect host, nice and friendly. We were offered us a glass of wine and chatted about our day with her on the back porch. There are all kinds of fun and eccentric decorations around to liven things up.
Not complaints at all!
Extremely comfortable little cottage surrounded by beautiful romantic gardens - quiet and private. Great location with an easy walk to the town plaza. Delicious wine tasting in the scenic Dry Creek area only minutes away. We would definitely go back.
Marian goes out of her way to provide her guests with good lodgings. We slept well and enjoyed breakfast at the downtown bakery with the help of the coupon Marian provides. It is a cozy, quiet, cottage separated from her main house. It is a 5 minute walk to the village square. Thank you Marian!
Staying at the Piper Street Inn in the cottage was a wonderful experience! The cottage is set back form the house in this adorable garden space, and it's very private. The cottage is spacious and comfortable, with a queen size bed, an enormous bathtub, a sitting area, and a cute kitchen space. Instead of breakfast at the Inn, you get a voucher for a great cafe in downtown Healdburg, which is just a few minutes walk away, and the voucher is enough for coffee and breakfast for two! If we return to Healdsburg, we would definitely like to stay at the cottage again!
