Extremely wild, tropical, steep, with open ocean views.

Quarter mile downhill to the beach bar/restaurant, and 1 kilometer to downtown Dominical.

What you get is literally a treehouse (pictured) that is light on amenities.

The space

Pacific oceanfront treehouse/cabin suitable for adventure campers. 2.4 acres of private elevated front row oceanfront rainforest above a top 10 surfing beach. Secured entrance to acreage, covered fantastic wildlife viewing balcony, secure luggage storage, campers kitchen (electric hot plate, minifridge, blender, pots, pans, silverware).

The neighborhood entrance is on the Pacific Coast Highway directly across the street from the Roca Verde Restaurant/Hotel/Bar which is 1 km South of Dominical town center. The lot is a steep quarter mile climb up to the left to the gated/locked entrance to the lot. Unless you are fit and willing to walk up, I recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle for the short but steep climb from the Pacific Coast Highway to the neighborhood and lot entrance.

The caretaker Julio only speaks Spanish. He is extremely helpful and can provide a ride to town, deliver fresh seafood, or run errands.

Please understand, this rental is best suited for guests who are searching for eco-friendly rather than luxury accommodations. Folding futon/sleepers or hammocks are available. The showers are private, but open-air. With point-of-use water heaters it is best to only turn have on during water flow, so heating element doesn't burn out. Most clients don't use (or need) the water heating element.

If you are bringing high heels, blow dryers, or crispy clothes, I can recommend wonderful places nearby. In the treehouse, you really live amongst the monkeys and other jungle creatures while taking in the most incredible ocean view over a top ten surfing beach.

Wi-fi service is spotty. There are times it works flawlessly, and others when it does not. Extreme rains take out light poles along the highway, or power outages, or internet outages. Despite best efforts, it is not reliable. If I could give Wi-fi half a checkbox, I would. cIn the past, clients have gone into town to learn it is out there too.

As time goes by, I learn that clients vary widely in their expectations of a rainforest jungle treehouse. The "nature" here is unbridled, and (IMO) the experience is closer to "Avatar" than "glamping".

I am slowly constructing a world-class wheelchair accessible treehouse elsewhere on the property. As a result, this rental is not suitable for small children who need to be kept from exploring high balconies that haven't had railings installed yet.

I have staff that live on the property, while they continue to work on the other treehouse about 100 feet away. They can be extremely helpful regarding removal of a wasp's nest starting to develop, showing how the kitchen or water system works, or arranging for seafood delivery, if you are so inclined. Their presence also provides security for the property and your possessions.
As part of the new space I am creating living quarters for a live-in caretaker - this will enhance security and convenience for guests.

Guest access

Owner will not be there. Caretaker speaks Spanish (Julio) and can be there for problems / questions. My place is best suited for travelers who enjoy roughing it a little, comfortable traveling overseas, and are self-reliant. If so, you get incredible privacy with the most amazing views in a truly tropical location.

From the treehouse the entrance gate is not visible. As a result, and to assure privacy, I recommend keeping the wrought iron gate to the property closed.

From the Pacific Coast Highway, the short climb to the lot is steep. I recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Yes, you can walk it, but it is a workout, especially with gear.

Interaction with guests

I am available by text from the States, and Julio by phone (in Spanish, local).

Other things to note

More than one client has had car's brakes or radiator overheat - either route from San Jose is steep, so consider giving the vehicle a chance to cool down.

Not safe or suitable for children (0-12 years)

No open fires please.

Only take from the garden fruit you will eat and leave the rest for the animals. They will do the same.

No immaturity or loud music please. Bringing your pet to the jungle is not a good idea.

The treehouse has new rain screens - I recommend leaving them down when you are away to keep your things dry. Also please leave gate locked whether you are in or out - it is not visible from the treehouse and that way you know that anyone on the property is with you or my caretaker crew.

I love this place, please treat it like your own.

This place is simply amazing. The view is breath taking. The accommodations while basic (and thoroughly described in the listing), exceeded all of our needs. The staff was also amazing. I would highly recommend a stay at the treehouse!

We stayed for 4 days and very much enjoyed it! The good: The views are perfect and it's within a quick walk to the beach and restuarants. For nature lovers, the lack of closed spaces, the landscaping, and critters roaming about will have you feeling well connected with the outdoors. The not-so-good: you are WELL connected with the outdoors! E.g. Bugs are nearly constant (although no biting ones) and iguana poop mysteriously littering the floors overnight made the morning trip downstairs a bit tricky. The electric hot plates took forever to heat up and the water appeared to be only from the rain catchment system, so bottled water had to be used. Wifi was essentially non-operational (90+% of our time it didn't work).

The house is just as discribed. Everything is in it, it is basic but okay. I missed the wildlife and that made us dissappointed because that was the reason we went. Very good discription to get to the place and just as been told we found the key and there was somebody to show us arround. It would have been more easy as we were able to speak Spanish because now there was not much of communication.

This place is wonderful for those that want a more rustic experience and to be in nature. The view is fantastic, lots of good places to eat -Tortilla flats and Del Mar taco to name a few. Lots of geckos, iguanas and birds. The treehouse is like luxurious camping with a kitchen, bathroom, and beds, you have everything you need. Highly recommend for those that want an adventure and a great view!

I am hesitant to write this because I want to keep this secret to myself, but the Dominical Treehouse is amazing. It is clean, comfortable and everything we hoped for. We love camping, so it was perfect for us, but even those who aren't necessarily "campers" will enjoy this place. The view, sounds of the jungle and ocean and overall charm of the property are enchanting. We have moved up the coast now and are staying in a condo, but wish we were able to stay in the treehouse longer. We cannot wait to return!

We had an incredible 9 night stay at the treehouse. It was exactly as advertised and you truly felt part of the jungle and the wildlife. We saw toucans, pelicans, vultures, scarlet macaws, iguanas, lizards and monkeys - it was amazing! We had been exploring the country beforehand, so our objective was mainly to relax and to see the wildlife at the treehouse. We also had surf lessons at Dominicalito beach (3h lesson for $40), went down to Ventanas beach to see the caves and hiked to Nauyaca waterfall which we swam in - fantastic! I'd recommend having a hire car so you can explore the many beaches along the beautiful coastline. We didn't have a 4x4, we had a Nissan Tiida, and we made it up and down the steep dirt track lots of times - it was a little nerve wracking at first, but fine after that! We did walk down to Dominical beach for dinner and drinks one night (20 min walk) but you have to walk along the main road where there's no pavement so driving is much safer! There are supermarkets nearby as well so we cooked a lot of our dinners and all our breakfasts, which was fun. I highly recommend staying here, you'll love it!
