Beautiful, lush ranch at the heart of rolling hills, howling monkeys, and roaming cows. The room was standard, large beds and strong shower, but the kitchen was the treat! It was open-air, overlooking the rolling green hills of the property. The hosts were welcoming, helpful, and fascinating. They regaled us with stories of travel and helped us get a private tour with the owner of the Curu Reserve. While a little bit tricky to find, I highly recommend this amazing, off-the-beaten-path location.
Leon and Bridgette were fantastic hosts, and made our stay at their ranch and lodge wonderful. From the moment we arrived to the time we departed, we felt completely at home. High on a hillside, we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the country setting. Leon and Bridgette guided us to wonderful destinations, including a day trip to Curu National Park Refuge, where we took a boat ride to Tortuga Island. We also enjoyed our meals that Bridgette and Leon prepared. Our room was comfortable and inviting, as was the outside deck, lounge chairs and hammocks. We also had a great horseback ride around the ranch area with Bridgette. We both felt completely relaxed with our visit, and would go back again. Bridgette and Leon are very caring people, who treat you special.
Rancho Fidelito is a working cattle ranch about 3 km. above the beach at Tambor. The main house is simple and well built as is the building that houses two rentals to the rear of the residence. Business is conducted outside, either on the veranda overlooking a valley or in the large palapa between the two houses where meals are served and convivialities are extended.
The hosts are helpful and congenial though both are well occupied in the management of the rancho. Leon is an encyclopedic conversationalist, a feat which makes the extra cost of breakfast well worth the price. Be aware there are extra costs beyond the room rent (which shouldn't be an issue - AC is extra but generally isn't necessary; meals are also extra but reasonable and well prepared).
The place is an ideal sanctuary if you have a car, but if you want to go in to Tambor for the beach or the rather scarce local restaurant, a taxi ride will cost you about $8 US each way.
