Our dream for Red Mountain Cottages was to create a quiet retreat space for birders, photographers, nature lovers, writers, and artists to enjoy and take advantage of the tranquility of the desert. We have always had a fascination for beautiful natural settings, and this one has its own unique personality. The stark landscape of the desert with its brilliant sunlight, big skies, dark night star-studded heavens, and clean, crisp air offers a perfect setting for escaping into an uncluttered place of restoration and creativity.
After visiting Southeast Arizona on a birding trip in 2007, we fell in the love with the area and purchased a small adobe vacation home in 2008. Later, we purchased additional land around this home, including the Red Mountain Cottages property.

For many years, we enjoyed a career as art glass dealers, founding and operating a gallery and auction house located in Santa Cruz, California which specialized in glass paperweights. The business, L. H. Selman, Ltd., was sold in 2009 to the Clark family in Chicago, who are carrying on our family tradition of promoting paperweight artists, in their new location on Michigan Avenue.
