Casa Mango is a private house located one short block from world-renowned Zicatela Beach in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Guests share a living area, kitchen, bathroom & shower, rooftop palapa, outdoor patio, garden and pool.
The neighbourhood of Los Tamarindos is a calm residential area away from the bustle of the town and the tourist zones. But a short walk north along the beach brings you to Zicatela, with its restaurants, bars and active nightlife. Stroll south for ten minutes and you find La Punta, with more bars and restaurants and a distinctive ‘70’s vibe!
And no matter where you are on the beach, surfing opportunities abound – riding the waves yourself, or simply marveling at the surfers’ skills!
Casa Mango is also close to the main coastal highway, where you can catch a taxi, a bus or a local “collectivo” into the center of town (a ten-minute ride) or to other beaches and towns along the coast. Not far from Puerto Escondido you’ll find lagoons, mountains, hot springs and indigenous Oaxacan villages.
An ideal spot for artists, writers, musicians and those who just want to relax poolside with a good book, Casa Mango promises you a holiday of sun, surf… and creative space!
AND... if you're visiting Puerto Escondido for the first time, I'd be happy to provide some tips on low airfares from Mexico City :)
No Smoking anywhere on the property.
Respect our neighbours' tranquility.
Please leave things as clean and tidy as you found them - thanks!
We've been for 2 weeks at Casa Mango in Puerto Escondido, and after that we din't want to come back home!
The house is well equiped, spacious, with really nice pool/garden/terrace area
We had some troubles first days with water supply and contacted Brian, he replied immediately and arranged a plumber to get it fixed asap. After all I have no complain as these things can happen, specially in Mexico, and Brian was very attentive during all our stay, and even before and after it!. His colleague Pedro in Puerto was also very helpful
We had great time there! Close to main surf spots (La Punta and Zicatela), close to Puerto ammenities, etc. I suggest getting own/private transport as weather is really hot and short walking distance becomes too long.
Hope we come back soon!
First of all be careful when coming to puerto Escondido as you may never want to leave ! Especially staying at the wonderful mexican villa Casa Mango. A few pals and i checked in and fell in love with the place right away. Spending most of our time bathing pool side or under the outdoor shade area which is only steps away from the fridge holding cold beers. I highly recommend casa mango as a special place to stay. Cheers O. P.S Brian the owner is a dream to deal with.
Brian's wonderful casa is located close to the ocean...2 blocks.. in a sparsely populated neighborhood halfway or so between Ziicatela and the Point. Perfect for people who love the quiet, birds, roosters, and yes, barking dogs in a tropical setting. If you want to walk the Point and see its laid back young hippie/surfer vibe or head to the strip in front of Zicatela, its about a 10 to 20 min walk. The home was clean, comfortable, and the pool was great to cool down in and for laps. Under the palapa at night is magical, like a treehouse surrounded by coco nut palms with waves crashing in the background...Brian responded quickly when I would have questions or concerns. his manager, Achilles, was also very helpful. I think this home fits certain guests just perfect...that is me!!!
We stayed a week in Casa Mango and had a great time enjoying beaches around! The house is well located between 2 main surfing spots where you can watch massive waves. There is also some areas where you can swim and play in the waves; we had a 8 years old boy who took surf classes.
We choose the location because it is away from the bars and night life but we had some noisy nights because of the dogs next door! I guess this is part of being in Mexico!
La Casa Mango was perfect! The home was spacious and perfect for our stay in Puerto Escondido. You need little in such a wonderful place. The best part of the home was the cabana which we spent every moment in. You can see the beach from the cabana and is a short walk to La Punta and Zicatela. The neighbors were great-even bought fresh coconut from them. If you want to stay in Puerto but distance yourself from the town for a quieter stay, La Casa Mango is your bet.
Casa Mango is a lovely house with some beautiful features, especially the palapa and the pool, however the house lacks some basic maintenance. When we arrived, the house was very dirty. We also had a number of problems during our stay, including a leak, no hot water, and problems with the mains water too. In addition, we had to ask a number of times for a proper trash can and at one point had three weeks worth of trash piled up outside the house.
Los Tamarindos is quiet regarding a lack of people and is a good distance from the tourist drag, however there is noise in the form of the neighbours' dogs, turkeys, roosters, etc. so it is definitely not 'quiet' overall! This was a real problem for us at night and disturbed our sleep most nights.
With some additional features like curtains, plus proper maintenance, Casa Mango would be a lovely property. It's close to the beach and we enjoyed some beautiful sunset walks during our stay. We suggest renting a car if you are staying longer than a week or so, as the house is a good 15/20 minute (hot!) walk from Zicatela.
Jake’s comments are accurate, both the good and the not-so-good. Unfortunately, basic upkeep suffered before and during his stay. It proved a perfect storm for a first-time owner/landlord: the high season of activity in Puerto Escondido, my trusted builders and repair people extremely busy and the regular garbage pick-up falling way behind. Most of the properties in Los Tamarindos had trash piling up at the end of March and beginning of April. From my experience, some background “noise” from dogs, turkeys and roosters is to be expected in rural Mexico and indeed part of the local ambiance.
I thank Jake for his observations and suggestions and can assure potential renters that the basic amenities at Casa Mango will be upgraded over the next month - and maintained in good order for future tenants.
