Interaction with Guests
We try to meet every guest and answer any questions they may have. If you need us we will respond as soon as we can but otherwise will give you your privacy.
The townhouse is located in a residential neighbourhood in Higashiyama area. We love this area as there is so much to see and do and its easy to explore on foot.
The nearest station is Keihan Kiyomizu Gojo. Its about 6min walk from the house. From there it is one stop to downtown and Gion areas or about a 20min walk. Taxis are cheap and plentiful. They are always available as they wait in front of the local shrine.
We have received very comprehensive information on how to get to Hidden Inn and were very surprised by the complete "guest manual " (description of the house, places where to go, Keith's favorite restaurants, ...) we found when entering. The house was clean and just perfect for a family of four.
The place is close to a convenient train station and the Gion center is located nearby. Keith was very discrete but present the day after our arrival and whenever requested. We strongly recommend Hidden Inn !
Keith communicated very clearly both via email and through the welcome/information pack provided. The property was exactly as shown in the pictures. The property is close to train station and very central for most sites you will want to visit. The property was very homely and made us feel very comfortable during quite a cold month in Kyoto. We very much look forward to visiting Kyoto again soon and without a doubt will stay in Keith's property. No need o view other properties as you won't do better.
Locating the exact location of the house can be a challenge. Otherwise, our stay in the homely place was good, due to its efficient household appliances, washer-cum-dryer, ps3 player, heater Etc. Met Keith was ready to give assistance when required.
This is a great house, lovely as described. The area is convenient and easy to get around to all the major sights. The owner left some drinks and snacks for our arrival after a long flight and made us feel welcome and at home. I would recommend this house to anyone.
The stairs are quite steep so you may want to check this before staying with young children.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Keith's lovely townhouse. It's a really beautiful little house in a great location, a short walk to Gion and some of the key temples and a cheap taxi ride to the station. The street is very quiet and the neighbours friendly. The house is very well equipped and Keith was an excellent host, the best one I have encountered on Airbnb. He left very thorough instructions in the house on how to use the appliances as well as recommendations of local restaurants and attractions. I'd strongly recommend Sherry Izakaya for dinner. We also appreciated the drinks and snacks Keith left in the house, a generous touch. Thank you so much Keith!
Hidden Inn was really lovely. My fiancee and I had a fantastic time and the home was perfect. We walked everywhere, even as far as Fushimi shrine. So if you love to walk this location is perfect. All appliances worked well and the kitchen was perfectly equipped for us to cook breakfast every day. All of the furniture was really comfortable too!
Keith was very attentive. Not only did we receive complimentary snacks and drinks, but he also greeted us personally. The house is clean and modern. The only problems we had was for two days somehow there were dozens of big nasty flies when we came back from sightseeing even though doors and windows were tightly shut. We ended up being busy killing flies and puzzled and trying to figure out where they came from after a busy and tiring day. The issue was relieved after Keith did spraying. The location is convenient.
Thank you for staying at Hidden Inn and for taking the time to share your comments. I regret that you were inconvenienced by some unwanted visitors (flies) in the house. We are committed to providing the best possible experience for our guests and will always do what we can to resolve any issues or concerns if and when they arise. As you are aware, my visit to the house to spray was the fourth time I came after responding to your earlier requests for a pocket wifi device, additional bedding etc. We noticed after you checked out that no attempt was made to dispose of any garbage that had accumulated during your stay. Since there were no flies before you came and have been none since you left, we can only assume that the cause was the trash you left behind. Future guests please note if you have trouble understanding the garbage disposal rules or are too busy to put the trash out then I am happy to come and pick it up for you. Best not to leave it in the house.
About the Host, Keith
I am a long term resident and lover of Kyoto originally from Melbourne Australia. I have lived in Kyoto for more than 18 years and am keen to share what insight I have gained over that time with guests. I also setup a basic site (hidden-inn) to provide guests with more details about Hidden Inn and the surroundings. I love all things tech and enjoy playing tennis, drinking beer and traveling and exploring, particularly neighbouring Asian countries.
Kyoto is a city that is very rewarding to those who are willing to get off the tourist track, wander and explore. It has many wonderful secrets but these are not easily revealed. Since we are now having a tourism boom in both Kyoto and Japan many of the "top 10" type sights have become very crowded and exhausting to visit. I am always looking for interesting restaurants, cafes, and lesser-known gardens, temples and shrines which I think my guests will enjoy without being swamped by tourists. Although my schedule can be hectic at times, I hope to spend time with guests when I can and share some local insider knowledge. I look forward to meeting you!
