About this listing
Welcome to our little beach haven! Our place is situated close to the beautiful Mandalay Beach. Our quiet neighborhood is full of beach vacation homes so expect to have a peaceful stay and what feels like true coastal living.
ABOUT OUR CONDO
We have a master bedroom and a children's bedroom. Our place is ideal for a couple or a family with young children! Please inquire about the use of the kid's room as most of the time it will be for use upon request only. We have a full bathroom upstairs and a half bath downstairs. There is also a queen sized futon downstairs, which is really comfy, and can easily facilitate 2 extra adults.
You enter into a small living room with a brick-gas fireplace, perfect for those cozy nights the coastal nights bring on! The living room is open to the kitchen, which is the most spacious room in the condo! Beautiful Mediterranean tile, fully equipped and a table for 4. Outside the kitchen is a little courtyard with lots of greenery and a BBQ.
Bridging the living room and the kitchen is a high breakfast bar. Pots, pans, plates, silverware and glasses etc... are provided. Tucked away in a closet is a stackable washer/dryer. We also have a water ionizer filter because we're water snobs and our area has rather hard water.
The bedrooms and the full bathroom are located upstairs. The main bedroom also has a queen size bed and has a little sliding glass door onto a small balcony overlooking the patio.
Hi Speed WiFi wireless internet. 42 inch Plasma TV with Blu Ray player, Roku, and Netflix. Please note we do not have cable TV.
The house will be professionally cleaned before check-in, and you will be provided with crisp, clean linens & towels upon arrival.
ABOUT MANDALAY BEACH
This area will most likely come up on your map as Oxnard, but the local like to refer to this area as Mandalay Beach. This desirable location is still pretty off the radar to most southern californians and we try to keep it that way!
Enjoy the channel islands harbor, only a bike ride (or short drive) away complete with local fare and seafood. On sundays the harbor holds the cutest little farmers market. Since you are walking distance from the beach let me tell you it is shockingly empty most of the time for such a beautiful beach.
There is occasionally some decent surf, but we are not too far away from Silverstrand, which is the local favorite. Grocery stores and coffee are only a couple minute's drive away and our local convenience shop is walking distance.
We have plenty of recommendations for places to eat and things to do so please do not hesitate to ask!
There are also tons of great places near by! We are:
13 minutes from Ventura
35 minutes from Ojai
45 minutes from Santa Barbara
and 30 minutes from Malibu
Guests will have access to our entire condo minus the kid's room which will be made available upon request.
Interaction with Guests
If we are in town we love to pop around and say hi! We are also aware of some guest's need for privacy and space and are happy to have whatever level of interaction the guests are comfortable with.
I love that I can walk to the beach in a minute and that most of the time it is peaceful and calm.
Public transit is not awesome. I would highly suggest having your own car. If possible, bring your bike! You will be glad you did!
We want you to make yourself at home! The whole point is for you to enjoy yourself and your stay. Our neighbors are very cool, but please be aware of your noise level outside after 10pm.
No smoking anywhere in the house please!!! Outside on the patio is fine.
Please leave all dirty dishes in the dishwasher, used towels on the upstairs bathroom floor, and all trash in respective bins. If during your stay you need to empty the trash, there are trash and recycling dumpsters out back on Channel Way (The alley street behind the condos).
Starter kit: We will provide you with paper towels, toilet paper, a sponge, dish detergent (under the sink), laundry detergent, and coffee (in the cupboard above the dishwasher). Please provide your own after these are used up.
*We have also included some baby oil and a washcloth for your feet. Our beach is beautiful but does has some tar. Please check your feet before coming in from the beach. The baby oil takes the tar off quickly and easily.
Food: The condiments in the fridge are fair game but please do not eat anything in our freezer or in the pantry baskets which are not designated for guests.
We live here, so please treat our things with respect--and enjoy yourself!
We have 3 remotes. The biggest (LG) turns the tv on and controls volume. At the top of the remote is an input button. This should be on HDMI1/DVI in order to work the Roku and HDMI2 to work the DVD player.
HDMI1/DVI: once it's on this setting, you can turn on the Roku with the Roku remote by pressing the home button. This will give you access to Netflix, HuluPlus, Pandora, and more.
HDMI2: The third remote (sharp) will power on the dvd player. It is up to date and will play all blu-ray movies.
The fire place is gas powered and can be turned on by turning the key and lighting the gas. Be careful not to have it up to high when you first light it. You might lose an eyebrow! :) You can always turn it up higher after it is lit.
Please take a minute to explore the kitchen. Convenient cabinet space is limited and so we had to get creative. We don't have a pantry so I have cleared the top 2 baskets in the case to the right of the back door. To the right of the fridge is a door that houses our washer and dryer. Washing machine is on the bottom and dryer is on the top. To work the drinking water machine make sure the little black nob on the faucet is horizontal. To use the faucet for washing the nob turns vertical. Please make sure when you run water through the machine that the water handle is over to the right for cold water! Hot water will ruin the filters! It might request for you to press the self-clean button. This only takes a minute or so. Also, please note our sliding glass door is tricky. The latch is loose and sometimes needs to be manually put in place to open or lock. If you run into any problems with this door please do not hesitate to call.
You can park anywhere on Driftwood, just please be aware of which side you are parked on Monday nights! Tuesday is street cleaning day and if your car is on the wrong side you will get a ticket! Each side of the street has a sign designating which Tuesday morning you can park there (one side is 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, other side is 2nd and 4th).
Up the stairs to your left is the first bedroom. This room does not get heat :( We have provided a space heater and extra blankets so you can stay snuggly. The lower half of the right side of the closet is yours to use! This closet is also where extra towels (including beach towels) vacuum, iron and sheets are! **Also, please note that our neighbor has access to the roof above our bedrooms so if you happen to hear footsteps, do not be alarmed.
The bedroom straight ahead from the stairs does get heat and can be quite toasty (you can adjust the heat downstairs to the left of the bathroom door). There is closet space on the right side available and in the dresser, the top large drawer and the two smaller ones above it have been cleared out for you! This sliding glass door does open but needs a little muscle to open.
*Also, please note that the upstairs bathroom doesn't lock very well.
The closest grocery store is Vons on Wooley. Drive down Driftwood to Harbor blvd and head south (right if you're facing away from the beach). Left at the light (Wooley) and Vons will be on your right shortly along with a Coffee Bean, a nail salon, Round Table Pizza, Chase Bank and Fisherman's Catch (one of our favorite spots!) and buttercups frozen yogurt yumminess. If you want to walk somewhere, the Bottle Shop is a convenient store 1/2 mile from our place. Head down Driftwood towards Harbor and take a right on Harbor Service Blvd (right before the main road). half a mile down on your right you will find a bakery, pizza shop, subway and the Bottle Shop where you can get some milk/beer/wine or other "essentials" :) There's also a restaurant there called The Shores, but we've actually never been there, so if you end up trying it, let us know how it is!
Please enjoy your time and let us know if there's anything that will make your stay more enjoyable!
About the Host, Amber
Me and my husband have traveled and lived all over the world but have recently grown a few roots in southern California. We love the outdoors! Biking, running, hiking, kayaking and rock climbing are some of our favorite things to do. We love good food, wine and Paul brews some delicious beer. If you're interested we'll leave you a bottle. We've recently added to our numbers by having a little girl, which has put a little bit of a damper on our international travel, but we LOVE the idea of living vicariously through you and helping you have an amazing local experience at our southern californian beach condo! Come visit us!
