Update: We have recently re-done the bathroom. Shower has increased height now and a new floor has been put in. Water pressure has been improved for the shower. Also, a brand new toilet as of beginning of October 2013.
The house was spacious. The neighborhood was very good. The bed was very good. The DVD's were enjoyable. The dishes and pots and pans were more than adequate. There was an adequate supply of basics such as toilet paper, towels, detergent, aluminum foil, and plastic wrap. The artwork on display was very enjoyable. The hot water was much too cold (below 100 degrees). The house was not clean. The refrigerator was much too small with no freezer, and it froze my carrots and lettuce at the lowest setting. The hot plate did not boil water in 12 minutes. There was no access to any TV broadcasts. The remote controls for the DVD player required a lot of work each time they were used. The shower had very little pressure.
This place was perfect for our trip to New Orleans. It's got everything you need and the location is ideal-- close to Magazine street for restaurants and shopping, and a bike ride away from the French Quarter. I'd recommend renting bikes from A-musing Bikes (just a short walk away from Rex's place). You'll save money since you won't need to rely on taxis and be able to travel to all the great spots in town. In addition, his place is decorated with amazing artwork.
Rex's place was perfect for my purposes. It's not fancy, but that's not what I needed or wanted. I love the neighborhood. The gas fireplace/heater in the bedroom was rocking, and I hate being cold when I sleep. So that was perfect.
Rex's place is nice. I was in NOLA for a conference so the location was ideal for me. Easily accessible bg the number 11 bus. It's about 30 mins by public transit or 10 mins by cab to the french quarter. Apartment was clean, kitchen was more than adequate and certainly didnt hurt to have netflix and apple tv to choose from. Rex was very kind in printing a map and some very useful pointers about NOLA prior to my arrival and assisted greatly in sourcing cabs when needed. Definitely recommended.
Rex's place was comfortable and conveniently located for everything we wanted to do on our visit --he's a friendly, accommodating host and we enjoyed our stay. Thanks Rex!
Rex was a very understanding and accommodating host, also very prompt in replying to any inquiry. Our flights were in ungodly hours and he make sure to make our arrival and departure smooth. We were nicely surprise by the place as it is nicer than in the pictures and transportation is a breeze to the tourist areas. The place has internet, TV, chargers, and a really comfortable bed. We were very happy with our stay in Rex's place.
Rex's place is a superb balance of cool and comfortable. His very fine art decorates the walls, which he creates in the studio in the front of the house. All the emanates were clean and functional. The neighborhood and house can only be described as charming. An all together unique and memorable experience. I highly recommend it.
Rex's place was great. It was just what we were looking for, and conveniently located to all the great stuff you'll find on Magazine street. He was easy to communicate with, and even offered to help show us around the city. Would definitely stay there again.
Oh man, where to start! I loved staying in Rex's shotgun in the Irish Channel. It was conveniently located, as he describes it, and there is plenty to see and do within walking distance of his home.
The photos of the property on here do not do the space justice. It feels spacious inside due to the high ceilings, and his artwork really makes it feel like you're walking through a gallery just to get to the kitchen. I spent a substantial amount of time admiring his collection each day.
He left towels and washcloths, phone chargers, and perfectly detailed information regarding what to do and where to go in the city. Personally, I did not find the water pressure or shower head height to be troubling. The shotgun is a double, however, so sometimes you can hear his neighbor walking around. It was not loud enough to bother me, but it was startling at first since I didn't think about the fact that the two units were attached.
Bottom line, I really enjoyed staying at Rex's and how it enhanced my stay in New Orleans, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!
This apartment is a no-frills, bachelor pad for a working local artist, and just what we needed for the weekend. It's clean and quaint, and perfect for a single person, couple, or a few people (if you're willing to sleep on the couch.) It's located in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood, and it's walking distance to the Magazine Street bus (1 block) and St. Charles Streetcar Line (5-6 blocks). Easy enough to get to the French Quarter district, but also right around the corner from the Magazine Street entertainment district.
The water pressure in the apartment wasn't perfect, and the shower head doesn't sit very high. It made for some interesting showers.
Rex was hospitable and helpful. He had the internet and Apple TV ready for us, along with a few phone chargers, should we need them. Towels and washcloths were ready to go. He also left coffee for us. He left some information on the coffee table to help us get around for the weekend, and told us to call him should we have any questions.
Overall, we were very happy with our stay. Love the area, and the apartment was just what we needed.
