Choose from many eateries, coffee shops, or the wonderful Daily Juice bar, all minutes walk through a safe, quiet pocket neighborhood; or, you can make your own at the Mesa Bungalow Apartment. There is a round yard outside your kitchen with seating and a stage for your gatherings. The apartment is set up for two and can accommodate 4. There is a washer and dryer also.
The walk to Barton Springs has an option to go through the woods beside the Umlauf Sculpture Garden, down a rocky trail, which is literally a "woods path" directly into the spring-fed pools around which Native Americans settled for millennia--now the soul of Austin--to bathe in the healing, mineral-spring water bubbling up into an enormous pool and waterfall, the reason populations settled here and drew the Austin settlement that became the heart of Texas--put a towel around your neck and walk down thru' the woods for the experience.
This comfy bungalow is perched on a cliff above the entrance to Zilker Park, the site of Austin City Limits Live Music Fest... and Restaurant Row with Austin's signature restaurant, Chuy's, serving inexpensive, huge Tex-Mex deluxe platters and their sister eatery, The Shady Grove, and Flipnotics Coffee House all within a stone's throw away. We like to say, "You're 5 minutes from 'everything Austin'..." and it is literally true. You can be in your seat at the Paramount theatre in 10 minutes or walk to Whole Foods World Hdqtrs, founded here, and just a short walk, across a food bridge, on South Lamar. Convenient for all SXSW venues...

Walk everywhere... 10 minutes to Whole Food headquarters store (where it was founded) and the movies--Alamo Drafthouse South is five minutes walking-- and food trailers galore, night clubs and craft breweries all within a close walk. Bike rentals at the foot of the hill from the house...

Valentina and Herb did a great job of making us feel welcome! We got a great introduction to the place and a rundown of how everything works. They were always available, very responsive to our inquiries, and had some awesome recommendations for places to eat and grocery shop.
The studio is perfect for a couple, and don't let the size of the kitchen fool you! I cooked a three-course lunch for four in there with no trouble (Speaking of which: This place is the perfect distance from the flagship Whole Foods. I walked it one day and Uber'd the second day for under $5 during peak traffic). The neighborhood is just up the hill from Restaurant Row/The Picnic/Zilker Park and across the bridge from N. Lamar, so there's tons to do and eat within walking distance and the neighborhood is full of friendly, quality people.
All in all our stay was amazing, and I know we'll be booking with Valentina again. This is my new favourite AirBnB in Austin!
Did not meet Valentina but her husband Herb. Herb was a very gracious host who went above and beyond to make our stay a pleasure. He even volunteered to drive us to the airport on our departure.
The purpose of my trip was a quick first time visit to explore Austin. I needed a safe, comfortable studio, close to everything as I was traveling alone and didn't want to rent a car. The Barton Springs studio met all my needs perfectly. There are some great restaurants about a 5 minute walk away. The hosts were easy to contact, friendly and willing to help get me settled. I came in on a red-eye flight, arriving mid day needing food and a nap. They offered to drive me to a good restaurant, and I walked home to stretch my legs and had the best night sleep of my life! It's the perfect spot to be close to the city but not hear the noise. I felt for the price it was much better than a hotel.
Thank you, Aine, for your kind comments and writing that you loved the mattress and linens--you were the first guest to use them, so it's good to hear. Valentina & I want to offer you a free day when you return because of the terrible weather you experienced and that one day you didn't feel well & couldn't enjoy our town, then had to rush off so early. Hope to see you again, Herb
This was the perfect place to stay for me, within walking distance to so many things: great restaurants, the running trails in Zilker park, Barton Springs, and the Umlauf sculpture museum. The apartment was comfortable and a nice quiet place to retreat after long days of studying. Herb & Valentina were very accommodating and even picked me up from the airport! They had lots of suggestions for tourist-like activity and were quick to respond to any requests that I had.
Great host! I was picked up at the airport and brought straight to a dinner I was late for and then picked up at 3am after our car was towed and brought back to the house!!! The apartment was nice and spacious and very private. Great yard! Walking distance to downtown and close to nature!! I couldn't have asked for more.
