Very charming and unique place to stay. It was ideal for my one night stay to see the Mardi Gras Parade.
The neighborhood is really nice and quiet. I walked to the French Quarter and only 30 min by cab to the airport.
Lesley's Bywater guest house was perfect for our stay: not in a crowded tourist-y area but within a reasonable walking distance to the French Quarter with lots of amazing restaurants and coffee shops along the way. The room itself was just fine for two people, no complaints whatsoever. Lesley was quick and courteous whenever I had requests or questions about anything. Thank you Lesley!
Lesley and Stacey were very responsive and very nicely invited us to a Halloween party they were having the night we arrived. Although Stacey or Lesley weren't there to meet us, their friend Rebecca was able to help us with the keys to the room and along with her boyfriend Mark made us feel welcome at the party.
The room is attached to a beautiful big house. It was quite cosy but big enough for the two of us. It was good to be staying in a residential area and too see what New Orleans is like away from the French Quarter and other tourist areas. It took us about half an hour to walk to the edge if the French Quarter.
If your a light sleeper this place isn't for you, there is a train line nearby and the trains sound there horns for a long time when they go past. There is also no sound proofing between the room and the adjourning room or bathroom.
The bed is comfy but it is quite small and it was only just long enough for my husband and I. We are both only about 180cm tall.
We enjoyed our stay in the Big Easy. If you re looking for a genuine New Orleans experience, this is for you.
Thanks Lesley, Stacey and friends.
I spent two nights in this Bywater home and had a great experience. Stacy was a gracious host and the room was very nice. It is in the back of the house and has its own private entrance. Perfect size for 1 or 2 people. The Bywater neighborhood is a fun place to explore and was easy to do on a bike. Plenty of resturants, coffee shops, and bars in the area to keep you entertained. I would recommend staying here.
I was pleased with the experience at Lesley's is a very good compromise with price location from the French quarter and neighborhood. I was traveling alone for work and did not need too much space or other"amenities" but the accommodations were very good. The room maybe small for most as most standard rooms you will find in Europe. . But the tradeoff is that the house is a charming older home with high ceiling and a garden which adds to the tranquillity of the place. Communications with the owner were superior!! The neighborhood may appear a bit run down to the average American-suburbian-Dweller but Ifound it charmingly New Orleans, safe and actually lively with many students living in the area. The number 5 bus takes you to the French Quarter in 10 min for $3. Walking is is 2 miles or 38 min to Jackson Sq.
Going back to the house...... I will strongly recommended !!!
The room is small but it is full of charm and demonstrates great decorative taste, not to mention that it is in a beautiful historic house with a large private yard. So we found it to be very comfortable, so much so that we added an extra night! And the neighborhood, Bywater, has so many nooks and crannies to explore, including great cafes, restaurants, and one of the best record stores I have ever been to, Euclid Records. Plus, you are short distance from the French Quarter. A great deal! We would certainly go back.
Charming little (!) room with a nice private bath. Good location for a NOLA tour. Felt quite private with a nice fenced yard on a quiet street. Don't bring too many clothes to hang up.
The location of the guesthouse made it all worth it. Loved this neighborhood! And it was just blocks away from so many wonderful places to eat. The room itself was sufficient, nothing spectacular, but honestly we didn't spend much time in it anyways. You should be very comfortable with the person you are staying with, as there is no real door for the bathroom. Overall, great stay!
Ellen's place was wonderful. We booked on short notice with no problems at all. It was clean, cute, and fit our needs perfectly.
I didn't get to meet the hostess, but communications with her through email were thorough, positive and helpful.
The room was adorable and very romantic. It has been put together perfectly. It is a small space, but it has been designed in a way where you don't care. You will be transported to the 1940's with all it's charm. I felt like Blanche DuBois in Streetcar Named Desire. The one downside to the place is that we didn't have any hot water and had to take some rather cold baths.
The Area: Bywater is awesome. You feel like the cool kid walking around this neighborhood. It has some awesome restaurants within a stone's throw (I recommend The Country Club and Maurepas Foods)
The hostess was accommodating and allowed us to check out late the next day, which was helpful because a tour ended mid-day.
