Escape to the country and find sanctuary in our two-hundred year-old, newly renovated, two-room cottage, situated at the end of a peaceful farm courtyard, with a secluded and enchanting private garden, and views over pasture fields that run down to the sea and the fabulous beaches of South Devon.

The space

At Rose Cottage, luxury beckons everywhere you look: contemporary oak furniture, heated slate floors, a comfy leather sofa and original art on every wall. The spacious bedroom has a kingsize bed with crisp, 400-count cottons, a large basin and dresser, and a positively decadent marble-tiled ensuite bathroom with power shower. The living area is cleverly designed to make use of every bit of space, and incorporates a fully-equipped kitchen, a wood burner for colder evenings, and HD TV with DVD and satellite.

Three sets of French doors ensure the cottage is filled with light whatever the weather, and give direct access from both rooms to the cottage's private garden: a flagged and graveled patio area with outdoor dining facilities and barbecue, a terrace planted with mature trees, shrubs and ground cover, and a well stocked herb garden for guests’ use. A gate at the end of the garden opens onto our own pasture, with views to fishing village of Beesands a mile away, where an excellent pub and an award-winning fish restaurant will delight even the most jaded of appetites.

Wake to the sound of the cock crowing. Collect your own eggs for breakfast, and try some home-cured bacon from our free-range black pigs. Fill your time lounging in the garden, collecting shells on the beach, swimming in the sea, surfing, cycling, horseriding, or just pottering about the quiet country lanes between the cottage and the coast. At the end of another busy day, as the evening draws in and dusk descends on the farmyard, sit back with a glass of something or other and listen to the sounds of the countryside putting itself to bed – the pheasants calling as they fly home to their roosts, or the first hoot of our resident tawny owls. In a few hours the stars will be out and, untrammelled by city light pollution, set to put on a magnificent display.

Guest access

Guests have a private garden and free access to the orchard with its giant trampoline. They are welcome to explore the farm and visit the animals in their homes: we keep horses, Shetland sheep, chickens, ducks and rare breed pigs, with very cute piglets!

Interaction with guests

We are usually to be found working around the farm and are happy to help with issues relating to the accommodation, suggestions for places of interest to visit, country walks, and other local information.

Other things to note

Rose Cottage is a popular destination all year round. Weekly rates only apply to whole weeks starting and finishing on a Saturday, otherwise the daily rate applies. During major holidays and school vacation periods we give preference to renters taking the accommodation from Saturday to Saturday.

We loved our stay in Rose Cottage. We found it very comfortable and private. It had everything you needed for a short break or a longer stay. Piers and Sue were friendly and made us feel welcomed and the little extra hamper was a lovely touch. They were also good to ask advice from on the local area.

We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much bother. A lot to see and do in the area; a great place for a quiet few days of walking and replenishment. We really loved the welcome pack.

Had a lovely short break at Rose cottage. The house was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed during our stay. Piers and Sue were fantastic, friendly hosts and gave great advice about things to see and do locally. The hamper that greeted us on arrival was full of delicious local treats and it's very much worth trying the Cotsmore Farm bacon- very tasty indeed!

We had an amazing time at Piers' lovely cottage. The wood-burner was the business! I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

We enjoyed the most wonderful break at Rose Cottage. Piers is a very welcoming host, generous and professional, and the house was exactly as described. We were able to take wood from the log store to enjoy a real fire at night, and the welcome basket of local produce (including eggs from the farm) was just great. The farm is very quiet so we slept well. The house is only a short distance from some stunning walks and beaches.

Piers made us feel were welcome. He was relaxed and friendly gave us advice about the area. A great welcome hamper was waiting for us in the cottage as well as a made up log fire. The cottage was very comfortable with everything we needed. The decor and furnishings were tasteful and good. The garden was secluded and lovely with with lots of birds attracted by the bird feeders. The cottage is in a great location, very peaceful and overlooking rolling countryside but only just over a mile from the sea. Close to lots of great walks, good pubs and cafes. A great stay.

Piers User ProfilePiers is a superhost.

Cotmore is a 17th century house surrounded by 13 acres of land that was already a farm more than a thousand years ago. It is a welcoming place that is home to Piers, Sue, their teenage children, some cats, and a small, friendly, bouncy dog called Jack. We moved here from south-east England in 2011, with the aim of establishing an environment where others could enjoy the kind of holiday we remember from our own childhoods in Ireland and Cornwall, and began the painstaking process of converting three derelict stone barns and outbuildings into stylish, comfortable self-catering accommodation at the heart of the farm. We keep horses, Large Black and Berkshire pigs, Shetland sheep, and free-range chickens and ducks, from which we have a plentiful supply of eggs, sausages, bacon, and hams. And living just a mile from the spectacular south Devon coast, we take full advantage of our fabulous seaside location to walk, swim, surf and kayak.
