About This Listing
Escape to the country and find sanctuary in our two-hundred year-old, newly renovated, two-room cottage, situated at the end of a peaceful farm courtyard, with views over pasture fields that run down to the sea and the fabulous beaches of South Devon
At Rose Cottage, luxury beckons everywhere you look: contemporary oak furniture, heated slate floors, a comfy leather sofa and original art on every wall. The spacious bedroom has a kingsize bed with crisp, 400-count cottons, a large basin and dresser, and a positively decadent marble-tiled ensuite bathroom with power shower. The living area is cleverly designed to make use of every bit of space, and incorporates a fully-equipped kitchen, a wood burner for colder evenings, and HD TV with DVD and satellite.
Three sets of French doors ensure the cottage is filled with light whatever the weather, and give direct access from both rooms to the cottage's private garden: a flagged and graveled patio area with outdoor dining facilities and barbecue, a terrace planted with mature trees, shrubs and ground cover, and a well stocked herb garden for guests’ use. A gate at the end of the garden opens onto our own pasture, with views to fishing village of Beesands a mile away, where an excellent pub and an award-winning fish restaurant will delight even the most jaded of appetites.
Wake to the sound of the cock crowing. Collect your own eggs for breakfast, and try some home-cured bacon from our free-range black pigs. Fill your time lounging in the garden, collecting shells on the beach, swimming in the sea, surfing, cycling, horseriding, or just pottering about the quiet country lanes between the cottage and the coast. At the end of another busy day, as the evening draws in and dusk descends on the farmyard, sit back with a glass of something or other and listen to the sounds of the countryside putting itself to bed – the pheasants calling as they fly home to their roosts, or the first hoot of our resident tawny owls. In a few hours the stars will be out and, untrammelled by city light pollution, set to put on a magnificent display.
No smoking. Maximum occupancy 2 adults plus one baby or toddler: we provide a travel cot and high chair free of charge. Pets may be acceptable by arrangement, in return for a charge of £25 per pet, per stay.
We enjoyed the most wonderful break at Rose Cottage. Piers is a very welcoming host, generous and professional, and the house was exactly as described. We were able to take wood from the log store to enjoy a real fire at night, and the welcome basket of local produce (including eggs from the farm) was just great. The farm is very quiet so we slept well. The house is only a short distance from some stunning walks and beaches.
Piers made us feel were welcome. He was relaxed and friendly gave us advice about the area. A great welcome hamper was waiting for us in the cottage as well as a made up log fire.
The cottage was very comfortable with everything we needed. The decor and furnishings were tasteful and good. The garden was secluded and lovely with with lots of birds attracted by the bird feeders.
The cottage is in a great location, very peaceful and overlooking rolling countryside but only just over a mile from the sea. Close to lots of great walks, good pubs and cafes. A great stay.
Rose Cottage at Cotmore Farm is a perfect place for a south Devon getaway. Near Beeson and not far from Beesands and Start Point, it is an ideal base for exploring the area. The cottage is very well appointed and is as warm (even in a cold and wet January) as Piers’ greeting. We were encouraged to explore the farm and enjoyed a wander around to meet the chickens and the pigs.
The ‘welcome pack’ that included eggs from the farm and a loaf of excellent bread plus homemade jam was a lovely surprise.
We loved our stay here and recommend it without hesitation.

About the Host, Piers
Cotmore is a 17th century house surrounded by 13 acres of land that was already a farm more than a thousand years ago. It is a welcoming place that is home to Piers, Sue, three teenagers aged 14-18, some cats, and a small, very friendly, very bouncy dog. We moved here from south-east England in 2011, with the aim of establishing an environment where others could enjoy the kind of holiday we remember from our own childhoods in Ireland and Cornwall. We have converted barns and outbuildings that provide stylish, comfortable self-catering accommodation at the heart of the farm. We keep horses, Large Black pigs, Shetland sheep, and free-range chickens, from which we have a plentiful supply of eggs, sausages, bacon, and hams. And living just a mile from the spectacular south Devon coast, we take full advantage of our fabulous seaside location to walk, swim, surf and kayak.
