Huizache apartment at El Tamarindo at Casa Calamondin family complex is a one-bedroom independent apartment with kitchenette and private bathroom, ideal for one to two guests. There is a/c in the bedroom and fans in both rooms. The sitting room is well-ventilated and screened.

The apartment is part of a family complex built on a hillside. The unit overlooks the tropical vegetation of La Ropa area and is only two blocks from La Ropa beach.

The space
The Huizache one-bedroom apartment has independent access from the garden areas of the home and is equipped with queen bed, fans, a/c in bedroom, table and chairs, bookshelves, coffeepot, two-burner stove-top, and fridge. The kitchenette includes basic cooking and eating implements and utensils suitable for light food prep. The bathroom has a shower and hot water.

The space is very comfortable for 1-2 person occupancy, but a foldaway cot is available for a third person if necessary. Weekly change of bed linens and towels is included.

The apartment has plenty of natural light and views over the palms and tropical vegetation of the La Ropa neighborhood. The apartment is behind and above the main house, so there are a number of stairs to negotiate as you move through the garden from street level to apartment level. Just outside the apartment is a palapa-thatched rooftop terrace with hammocks, table and chairs, free wifi, and splendid views of sunrise and sunset skies.

It is an easy two block walk from La Ropa Beach on Zihuatanejo Bay, and a pleasant 30 minute walk (or easy taxi or microbus ride) into town.

Guest access
Four separate buildings house independent apartments and rooms in the El Tamarindo at Casa Calamondin family complex that winds up a slope from street level. A pathway and a series of exterior stairways wind up through the garden areas to access each of the modules. Cozy comfort and low-key relaxation characterize the home.

Guests can access the rental units via exterior walkways and stairs without having to go through the main residence. Every room and apartment has independent access from the exterior.

For outdoor lounging, guests have shared access to a rooftop palapa-thatched terrace that overlooks the tropical greenery of La Ropa and affords lovely sunrise and sunset views.

Depending on family occupancy and other rental conditions, renters staying at El Tamarindo may be granted access to the front terrace and dipping pool of the main house.

La Ropa Beach is the best and most beautiful beach on Zihuatanejo Bay, which is in itself one of the astounding jewels of the Mexican Pacific coastline. It is a short, approximately two-block walk to the beach with only a gentle slope rising from the water level to the elevation of the house—no heavy hills to climb when coming and going. Just steps from the door are several restaurants that open during the winter season, with a variety of offerings from home-style Italian to savory fish tacos and chic boutique sandwiches, and along the beach are countless seafood restaurants and plenty of opportunities to imbibe a cold beer or an icy margarita.

Zihuatanejo has been my home since the mid-1990s, although my family and I first fell in love with it in 1969 when it was but a tiny and dusty fishing village. El Tamarindo is a multi-unit family complex that I administer with the valuable help of Felisa, who is hands-on with guest care on site and greatly appreciated by us all. My sisters and other family members are sometimes in residence. I do not live at El Tamarindo but drop by often.
