update 01/21: this has converted to a custom-built, double loft bed, with complete privacy curtains & custom, interior LED lighting; more pictures soon. ((:
Semi-Private: a supercomfy, double loft bed in an extra-large, multipurpose room in the heart of the beautiful & charming, original Faubourg Marigny. this is only three blocks from Frenchmen Street, with a 2nd-story view & dog kisses. this is a shared space, shotgun-style/pass-through room, but you will be the only sleepers & the only ones using this room in the evenings. (the space you will be in used to function on its own as an independent, efficiency apartment. the entire room is 300+ square feet, & at times it serves two functions, but the kitchenette at the opposite end is rarely used during guest stays or any later evening hours.)
the interior of the loft has a surge protector/power strip & a shelf for personal items & a beverage. the frame has several hooks installed for jackets & bags, as well as plenty of luggage storage space above & below.
it's just three blocks to all the hot-spots, live music, restaurants, & excitement of Frenchmen. a few short blocks along there lead you into the French Quarter, the Mississippi Riverfront, the world-famous French Market, & a ferry to Algiers Point It's so close you can even make use of the pedi-cab service (hirable bike taxi) both ways. we are just 2 blocks from the closest airport shuttle location, 1/4 mile from the interstate exit, & 1/2 block from a major city bus line heading straight along the length of the neighboring French Quarter & Treme', or oppositely heading deep into the Bywater Arts District, but these neighborhoods are just minutes of walking or biking as well. multiple other citywide public transit options are available in just 1 - 3 blocks should you choose not to walk or rent the bikes. neighborhood music clubs, cafés, coffee houses, restaurants, live theater, gourmet brick-oven pizza (available by the slice), a gym, yoga & fitness center, spa massage, package liquor, a food co-op, washeteria, community parks, 24-hour pubs, a 24-hour organic grocery & deli, fast food, beauty salon, gas station, & national drug store, are all within 5 blocks. another five blocks adds a public library, country/swim club with a heated saltwater pool, sno-ball stand, & historic cemetery to the mix. thrift/antique stores & art galleries abound. this location has plenty of nearby international dining options for those interested in more than Creole & Cajun fare, & some great vegetarian options as well, of which i know *nearly* all. i live on site, & am delighted to assist with as much or as little itinerary planning as you would like. to help you plan, there are books of maps & tour information, as well as menus from many of our delicious local restaurants, and frequently updated lists of current events & festivals. current issues of all our local publications are provided as well. want to try out any number of free, citywide social bike rides? i know just where to find them. the apartment is occupied by me & my very sweet, sociable, & well-behaved, 5yo, medium-sized dog. she sleeps with me, but is happily available for petting or snuggling, & has been a very popular guest favorite; see the reviews for plenty of information. she is very short haired & has her own kennel for when i am out if she is not with me on the bike, which is often. you do not have to *love* dogs, but you should probably just be comfortable around an easygoing & lovable dog. <3
flexible hours; can accommodate all types of schedules; no curfews. last-minute reservations happily accepted. check out my private-room listing as well; discounts available if both listings booked together. see you soon! ((-:

Yvonne’s place is incredibly affordable, and within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants in Faubourg Marigny, Bywater and The French Quarter. And Poochini is as sweet and friendly as all the comments say. She’s big, so if larger dogs aren’t your thing that could be a concern. But she was as gentle as a lamb during my stay.
While the bed is as Yvonne describes it, one thing I was not prepared for is that Yvonne actually offers two such sleeping units in her apartment. As a result, if both have been rented during your stay, and depending on whether Yvonne is also hosting a friend at the time, there could be anywhere from three to six people sharing what is essentially a one bedroom apartment.
I had my own storage areas on the top bunk, in the space under the bed, and in the gap between the foot of the bed and the dining table (this accommodation is in the kitchen/dining area - just outside the bathroom). Over time, the apartment can get a bit crowded and cluttered. I never encountered a wait for the bathroom, but could see where that could become a problem.
Additionally, it pays to confirm whether Yvonne’s been having water issues. The kitchen tap was without water for much of my stay, and while the bathroom worked fine, the back up of kitchen dishes did become a problem after three days.
Though the privacy curtain is visually effective, it doesn’t keep noise down. It wasn’t a problem for me, but others may want to pack a set of headphones, just in case.
Overall, this is a good, if basic, lodging at a great price in a conveniently located neighborhood. The host and host dog are very friendly and accommodating. But there are a few things to keep in mind.
I stayed with Yvonne for one night in New Orleans and it was a perfect place to stay. Her apartment is clean and welcoming and if you're a first timer for New Orleans I couldn't suggest a better host as Yvonne has a wealth of knowledge about the city and literally binders full of places to eat and visit. The neighborhood is very friendly and safe and very close to the French Quarter. Would definitely stay again!
I had a great time in NOLA, the place was comfortable, Yvonne was a great and respectful hostess, and her dog Poccinni is wonderful! The place is very close to French street and the French Quarter :)
Yvonne was amazing - she emailed me ahead of time about the road closure in Nola and offered to have me stay at her place the next day. Super friendly and welcoming. The place was very cute and was in a nice nbhd. Highly recommended.
This was my first experience with airbnb, and I think I was lucky to have such a wonderful host. We communicated a great deal prior to my booking and leading up to my stay. We had several things in common and I certainly feel like I made a new friend!
There was another couple staying in the apartment as well as Yvonne and a friend of hers- but I never had to wait for the bathroom, never ran out of hot water and was never woken up by anyone else in the apartment. The location was quiet but still close to many things (the bus, the French Quarter, and some local "dives" with fantastic kitchens- Siberia & Love Lost Lounge as well as a sweet little wine shop- Faubourg). The wifi worked very well, the towels were fluffy and I never had a problem getting in or out of the apartment.
I have travelled a great deal in my life and often sleep on air matresses and cushions in various relative's homes- this felt a lot like that. Personally, I don't mind this at all. It reminded me of my childhood and even though I had never met Yvonne before I felt very comfortable and safe. The apartment was a little cluttered but there was plenty of space for me and my belongings. The bed was very comfortable and Poochini is an adorable and sweet dog!
If you are someone who prefers the cold anonymous sterility of a hotel room this is probably not for you. If you seek adventure, friendship and human connection- don't miss out on this fabulous deal in NOLA!
it was such a pleasure to have such a gracious guest here during my sudden injury (badly sprained knee/ crutches/ brace), & i am really pleased that you had a good stay, Jayda! ((: my good friend visiting for the week to help me (during your stay) did just also seem to "clutter" things up a bit, but i was so grateful for the help in keeping things nice & *clean* for y;all, especially being on the 2nd story. (so, even though there were a few extra things lying around, that i ALSO would have generally *preferred* to be out of the way), i feel really fortunate to have such generous friends & gracious guests during such a tricky time. can;t wait to see you again! hope this school makes it into your top three, for sure. Yvonne is the best! This was my first airbnb experience and from the start, Yvonne promptly answered my emails and assured me that I was in good hands. Everything about our stay was wonderful. The location is just blocks away from the French Quarter and the famous Frenchmen St. I definitely recommend staying with Yvonne. She gave us numerous suggestions on where to go and where to eat, and was on call 24/7 with whatever we needed help with. Poochini, her dog, is the sweetest dog i've met! Thanks for everything Yvonne! you rock! and can't wait to go back to NOLA!
Yvonne was an awesome host! She was very accommodating and had every need of a guest covered. This included detailed maps and menus of nearly every restaurant and bar in and around the French Quarter, as well as toothpaste and shampoo in case you didn't have any. Cool house, very easy to get to from downtown and a great location. Burrachos is just around the corner; had great food and cool people to meet. Also located 3 blocks away from Frenchman's Street. Over all I had a wonderful stay in New Orleans and would do it again in a heartbeat! I would definitely recommend Yvonne to a friend.
My first trip to New Orleans was a great experience. Yvonne being an exceptional host contributed quite a bit to it!
A comfortable place to sleep and a functional bike was all I wanted, and Yvonne provided that in a perfect fashion. She welcomed me on arrival (with peppermint tea), and even made sure to have a personal goodbye even though I had to leave way too early in the morning. She also made me aware of social bike rides and invited me to join. It was a lot of fun - highly recommended!
One of the best airbnb hosts I've met!! Besides being extremely comfortable, conveniently located, and decently priced, Yvonneand Poocini really do open up their home to guests. She is extremely welcoming, and using the word "generous" doesn't cut it for how giving Yvonne actually is. Great place to stay when visiting this amazing city!
I stayed in the shared room for a weekend (3 nights) and I was completely satisfied! The location is perfect - a safe neighborhood near the French Quarter, but better yet, even closer to Frenchmen Street where live music is always playing and the bars aren't as ridiculous as Bourbon Street. Yvonne was a great host, offering suggestions for everything I could've wanted to do/see. I highly recommend taking her up on the bike rental - it is a great way to explore the area!
