About This Listing
Similar to the 19th century Shakers furnishing, the pieces are simple, durable, and comfortable. The embroidery and lacquer paintings on the wall are from Vietnam, the moon guitar is the symbol of Hengchun town's folk music movement. The hostess was one of the founders of the Hengchun folk music Association. Play an instrument? Can carry a tune? Have a jam session with her :-)
It is the only guesthouse on this quiet street, with a shady walkway leading to an old fort wall ruin and South Gate. A block away from the old town street with lots of eateries and shops. Enjoy the quiet evening with a neighboring church and local residences.
Located in the heart of old Heng Chun town, 2 blocks away from the main Heng Chun transit station where you catch an express bus to the high speed rail and other major train stations. Hire a taxi or rent a motorcycle (the most popular form of transportation) near the transit station. Don't forget the helmet!

We loved South Gate Hostel where we stayed in the Moon Room. It is so conveniently located two blocks from the bus station in Hengchen making it easy to hop on the bus to the Kenting Night Market and the beaches. Incredible value, South Gate is spacious and clean with a great kitchen and showers with great water pressure. Gwen helped us with all our questions, and we enjoyed ourselves so much we extended our stay.

About the Host, Gwen
I moved from Taiwan to Hawaii at age 14, lived in the US for most of my adult life, interrupted by living a few years in South America and South East Asia. I hope to visit Australia and New Zealand next, since I am so much closer now.
If I have a life motto, that would be "be as open minded as my upbringing and life experience would allow". Oh, love to hear other people's ideas. So talk to me!
