The rooms look exactly like in the pictures--pretty much everything was just as described. John was a very responsive host and was patient with all my questions. The property was absolutely quiet and peaceful. Just wish we could have stayed a few more days!
Great house, great location. We really enjoyed our stay at Island Home. The setting was fabulous, so much better than staying squashed in with everyone else, or in the artificial landscaping of one of the expensive resorts. There was a deer in the front yard every evening, as well as a peacock couple along the entrance road. We highly recommend this as a chance to spend a relaxing time in a natural setting. The house was comfortable and as advertised; the pictures do it justice. We could come again. Thanks for sharing.
We loved our stay at John's place. What a stunning house and setting! It is definitely a wonderful place for a family get together or a completely relaxing (virtually technology-free!) vacation. John gave us nice suggestions about nearby sightseeing places (for hiking, beaches, kayaking, biking) and restaurants (in quaint little areas of Amelia Island and the town of St. Augustine). He was a very sweet and communicative host, always accessible and attentive, and the house is a perfect retreat from stresses of urban living.
Excellent and lovely place!!
Everything about John's home is great. It was very clean and spacious. The porch is my favorite feature. John was very helpful and let us know everything when we arrived. Great host!
My family and I stayed at John's place while in town for a wedding. The house is beautfiul and spacious and bright -- a wonderful place for a family/group of friends to gather and make memories. It rained throughout the time we were there, but the house kept a smile on our faces the whole time. It's a really nice place!
My father arrived first and met with John, who took his time showing him the house and the property. My father was very impressed with how nice and welcoming John was toward him. It made the stay that much more comfortable.
John's home is a welcoming space situated on gorgeous land and near so much natural beauty. His welcome to us and tour were helpful and we had every resource we could need to make the most of the weekend.
We were a group of six friends catching up from different parts of the country, and his porch made for a perfect site to catch up and chat long into the night. The furniture was extraordinarily comfortable, the house was beautiful and John's photographs on the walls made for a great place to spend a few days. Can't thank him enough.
John was very helpful & attentive. He obviously loves the home & welcomed us in person upon our arrival. We had a complete book of nearby restaurants and activities at our disposal. We enjoyed sitting on the spacious porch in between our running to & fro. The house is plenty big enough for teenagers to spread out while parents can have some privacy. Peacocks, a deer, and a beggar kitty greeted us many days in the backyard.
We recommend the 4 mi hike at little talbot park, kayak Amelia, and a lovely walk down the 1.5 mile driveway at dusk. The Florida weather was sunny & mild. This was an awesome cozy place to relax. We hope to return and try out the bike trails.
My wife and I spent four nights at John's place and it was fantastic. The house is located right in the heart of a state park and it is surrounded by live oaks and palmettos. The pictures describe the house very accurately.
John is an amazing host. On the first day he stopped by to show us how things work around the house and we spent a few hours chatting about his adventurous life. If you rent the place you will understand what I am talking about. There are photographs of his trips hung on the walls with great care.
The rental is located half way between Amelia Island and Jacksonville, and just five minutes away from a spectacular beach. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from on Amelia Island and some just minutes away that offer fresh seafood. Check John's recommendations if you do not know what to choose.
I highly recommend this place for any type of getaway. It's perfect.
John's home was the absolute perfect setting for our family gathering, celebrating my mom's 91st!
The house ~ spacious, well appointed, comfortable, clean, kitchen well-equipped, and the wrap around porch and view ~ perfect!
Our host, John ~ kind, helpful, available, responsive.
The area ~ delightful ~ a 5 minute drive to wonderful Little Talbot State Park for great beaches and wonderful walks, and to Kayak Amelia for kayak and bike rentals.
We were all very happy here. If you are looking for a place away from everything, yet close to everything, this is it!
And, the peacock next door that comes to visit or sits in the high branches of the pine is a real delight!
Thank you, John. Hope to return one day.
