John was very responsive to my initial request for additional information about his home and how it was set up for 8 people. After conferring with the families from across the country, we chose this house and it was the best possible site for our week long family get together. John continued to be very responsive to our additional queries as we tried to accommodate diverse needs and wants. He even stopped by to say hello!
We are all adult siblings with spouses and being together means lots of visiting over meals, happy hours or just sitting around chatting with music in the background. The kitchen was equipped enough that we could easily prepare all three daily meals for all of us. We were close enough to numerous restaurants to the north and south that we occasionally dined out. Never had a bad meal or bad service!
A day trip to St. Augustine was a fun and easy trip. But there is quite a bit to do locally, too. The Museum of History is a must see on a rainy or chilly day, go to Fort Clinch or take the river cruise around Cumberland Island on a glorious day. Stroll the grounds at the Kingsley Plantation and enjoy the boats putting in on the river for the evening. Or shop; clothes, antiques and cute shops galore.
Of course, you don't even need to leave the property to be entertained! The deer in the yard, the unexpected peacock on the porch railing, the neighbors' cat greeting you, or the armadillo crossing the road were secondary to just sitting at the kitchen table or out on the porch soaking up the glorious vistas. The sunsets were unbelievable but the fog shrouded mornings were also incredible.
Of course, I must comment on the beds, all of us slept without any complaints but the master bedroom's king bed was heaven on earth. Even on the nights when we had not worn ourselves out walking or doing fun things, it welcomed us and we soundly slept for eight full hours which is unheard of for us!
Not having cable television made the property an even better choice as no one got sucked into the watching of 'their' shows. The wifi was more than adequate, sometimes a little slow but we all had our devices going to check on our normal, daily lives.
We are already trying to figure out if we can meet again next winter at John's!
John's home was, once again, a space which provided a simply eloquent experience and a wonderful time was had by all who stayed with us as guests. This is by far the most wonderful place we have ever found on airbnb and has become a special place for our family.Always immaculately clean. The house itself is fabulous and laced with beautiful and relaxing features. The screen porch is to die for, the beds are all very comfy, the kitchen is spacious and perfect for cooking. If you've found this place and it fits your schedule in looking for reservations, we suggest booking it immediately! Our only warning is that you won't want to leave!!!
