The Space

This is our garden level apartment, if you want a bit more privacy than the bedrooms we rent in our living space - we are just upstairs on the top two floors! It's old-fashioned, vintage-y, and cozy. Lots of original old woodwork that is in various states of restoration, wood floors, morning sunlight through the living room windows, and access to our backyard with garden area! You might even get to sample some of our raspberries and tomatoes we've got growing out back if you come at the right time of year.

We're looking forward to hosting you in our sweet old-fashioned house, and hope to share one of the west side's up-and-coming neighborhoods with you!

Guest Access

There are three available bedrooms: two with full-sized beds, and the third is a small alcove that sleeps one person in a single bed. In total, the apartment can accommodate up to 7 people, with the use of the fold-out couch in the living room. We've updated the fold-out couch to something slightly bigger and more comfy - it's not reflected in the pictures, but it's much better than the old that you see here! The bathroom is a "jack and jill" bathroom, so it has two entrances, off of the blue and green bedroom, and you always enter through one of the bedrooms. There's a large eat-in kitchen, and we'll make sure the cupboards are stocked with coffee, tea, and granola for breakfast and snacks!

In terms of modern amenities, your stay will be on the charmingly old-fashioned side! We've stocked the place with some of our favorite records, and a console radio with built-in bar fixings! There's no T.V., however you will have access to our house-wide wifi, which is pretty fast, and there's lots to do in Chicago, so get outside and explore!

We provide fresh linens and lots of towels for your stay, and if you need to do laundry, it's available in our living space upstairs, and we're happy to accommodate you - just let us know.

We're also happy to loan you the use of bicycles during your stay, and there's a bike shop three blocks from our house if anything comes up while you're borrowing them.

Interaction with Guests

This apartment is completely separate from our living space upstairs. The house is old, so you'll definitely hear us walking around above you from time to time, and we'll probably hear you a bit, too. If you have a hankering for some company, or want to share a meal with us, you're welcome to come upstairs and say hello! If you prefer to have a private stay, we're available if anything should come up, but otherwise will leave you to explore and enjoy on your own.

The Neighborhood

We are in the East Humboldt Park neighborhood, which is a diverse neighborhood with quite a few walkable restaurants, bars, coffee places, and art galleries. You also have the largest non-lakefront park in Chicago three blocks away - Humboldt Park - with beautiful lagoon, boathouse, field house, nature areas, and the Puerto Rican Institute of Art and Culture. Wicker Park and Logan Square are adjacent neighborhoods to us, and very easy to get to - it's a hip and trendy part of town. Be aware that, as in any urban neighborhood, you will see an amazing mix of people from all walks of life. Common sense precautions always apply. We've happily raised our family here for the last 7 years, and wouldn't consider living anywhere else. The neighborhood experience is most definitely diverse and vibrant. If you have questions, please ask - I'm happy to help you figure out if this is the right neighborhood for your airbnb stay.

Getting Around

We are located close to two East-West bus lines - the #70 on Division, and the #66 on Chicago. Both will take you to the north side of downtown - the Gold Coast, Magnificent Mile, and Navy Pier - the ride will be about 30 minutes. If you want to get to the El, you can transfer to the Blue Line off of either Bus - and again, it's about 30 minutes to get to the loop by transferring to the Blue line.

On street parking is available with permits, which we are happy to provide at no cost. We also have an extra garage spot for a smaller car, if you're interested, for $10 extra per day. Be aware that if you are arriving to the neighborhood late, you might have to search a few blocks radius for parking. We are anywhere from 3 to 4 miles from points downtown, so if you are up for a drive downtown, it normally takes less than 15 minutes.

Other Things to Note

Laundry is upstairs in our apartment. You're welcome to use it, but we request a bit of advance notice, and keeping your laundry to a reasonable amount. If you show up with six loads of laundry to do, we probably won't be able to accommodate you, but we can help you get to the laundromat!

House Rules

No smoking anywhere in the apartment or in the front or back yard. we are super strict about this - please check with me if you're a smoker and wish to stay with us.

No illegal drug use, and no underage drinking.

If you're outside, please watch your noise level past 10 pm.

If you're inside, just know that the house is old, and you might hear us, just as we might hear you!

No outside guests.

Most importantly, we have furnished the apartment with care, and the furniture and pieces we put in there are special and unique! Please treat the space as you would treat your own. We don't charge a cleaning fee, and just ask that you leave the apartment as close to clean as you found it - wash your dishes, keep things tidy, etc.
