I spent a week at Karen's house. The location is really good, despite it is 5 minutes form the coast. If you are surfer, kiter or windsurfer this is for sure very good location, everything is close Paia, Hookipa and also Kanaha beach. You can avoid using very busy road Kahului-Paia, from Karen’s house it is a short drive to highway direct to Kahului. Karen is a great person and I was feeling like to be at home. I can use her kitchen. The view from living room was amazing and some morning I was just watching the Ocean. She can give you a lot of good advices of Maui Island. She is a very good kiter and run a kite school. You may rent a board or kite at her. If I come to Maui again I will definitely come to Karin’s house.
Everything was as we expected = great. Karen is a great host. We liked the room and the whole house.
Karen was an excellent host. We wanted to stay in upcountry and Paia hotels were too expensive. Makawao is a nice alternative - about 15 minutes away from Paia or to the Road to Hana. Karen has lots of stories to tell about her kite sailing business. We felt at home - she let us use her kitchen, living room etc as we wanted. We would totally stay with her again.
My wife and I spent a night at Karen's before driving on to Hana. Her house is located in a lovely uphill spot, and she set us up nicely in her guest room. Everything was simple and convenient. We enjoyed dining at a great sushi restaurant/deli in Makawao proper, a short drive away, and visited again the following morning for donuts on a stick from the town's Komoda bakery. Good times!
We enjoyed our short stay at Karen's. the room was fine, and the bathroom just across the hall. The best part was seeing the amazing view in the morning, as we got in after dark. Karen was accommodating and we enjoyed getting to know a bit about the kitesurfing business she's involved with. the only hiccup was with our GPS. It led us to a similarly named road (Maha), also in the Makawao area. Karen was available by phone, and we were able to then make it to her place, no problem.
Karen is a great host. My husband and I stayed 2 nights at her home and she provided some great suggestions for things to do and dining out. Her home is located at the end of a quiet neighbourhood and has great views of Kapalui and the seaside. We really liked the area, especially Paia. I would definitely stay with her again.
Very nice house in up country. Karen is very sweet and advised us very well for windsurfing. However, I have to say the bed is kind of small for a tall couple like us and you have to be comfortable with bugs while living in up country! Still a good experience overall.
Our trip: My boyfriend and I stayed one night at Karens house, the night before driving the road to Hana. We spent 3 nights in Kehi, 1 night at Karen's place, 2 nights in Hana, 1 night in olowalu, and 2 nights in Lahaina to get a full taste of the island. Out of all of the places Karens house was the most comfortable with the best views!
The house: It is very beautiful, comfortable, and clean. We loved it and had no problems.
Karen: Very nice and friendly. She makes you feel like you are at home. She is an amazing host!
Other: I would recommend this place to anyone. The house is located next to a really cute town called paia, with lots of great places to eat. We did our grocery shopping at Mana foods, had dinner at Flatbread, and breakfast at a few of the really cute cafes.
Karen was a good host. We arrived late after the sunset over Haleakala and she was already sleeping. The room and bathroom was ready for us and we felt completely welcomed. We had the surprise to woke up beside a mango tree and a magnificent oceanview. As we had a early flight that morning, we didn't had time to speak that much but I have not doubts that she is a super nice person. Thx Karen!
Karen is very laid back, the view is gorgeous and upcountry is an awesome location! The star gazing from her patio was amazing! From Karen's place you can get to Wailuku in 15 min., Paia in 10 and Haleakala in an hour. We loved the quiet neighborhood and the relaxed atmosphere at Karen's house. A couple of different people stayed there while we did, which made for a very sociable experience, which we enjoyed. Overall, we loved staying with Karen and will definitely be back!
