Cozy, comfortable and quiet loft in heart of Paris, ideal home to come back to after your strolls. All sites, museums and monuments are walking distance, great area for dining and shopping.
We let per week minimum only in July and August
Our quiet 30m2 loft studio is two 'chambres de bonne' turned into one, full of charm, situated in the heart of Paris ( 1st arrondissement) parallel to the beautiful gardens of Palais Royal. We live in the same (18th century) apartment building and we use the studio for our children, our friends ànd short lets.
Two double-glazed sky lights ( with sun control window film) overlook the roofs of Paris. When they're open, you hear the city noise, when shut it's dead quiet in the studio..
A typical Parisian-style winding wooden staircase (escalier de service) takes you to the fifth floor, no lift I'm afraid!
You need to be fit, if not, you will become so...
Separate entrance in the courtyard, so you are completely independent.
The studio has recently been refurbished and it comprises a mezzanine with double bed, a fully equipped kitchenette, no dishwasher, small bathroom with shower, basin and toilet.
The sofa bed sleeps one adult or two small children.
Plenty of storage, electric heating and table fan.
Linens are provided, so are soaps and shampoo.
Help yourselves to tea, milk, brioche, butter and jam.
Launderette is just down the road.
Our studio is a cosy and comfortable home to come back to after your strolls in Paris and best of all is the location!
All the monuments are walking distance, the Louvre is literally down the road. Metro stations Louvre-Palais Royal and Pyramides are a 2 minute walk, plenty of buses, vélib around the corner. We are surrounded by lively restaurants, too many to mention here…
You'll have your own, separate entrance
Interaction with Guests
We like to keep in touch with our guests regularly by mail and phone. If we are around we always try to have a drink and a chat with our guests in our apartment, we enjoy meeting people from all over the world!
One cannot be more central, all sites and monuments are walking distance. We're so privileged having Palais Royal on our doorstep and Louvre just down the road ànd surrounded by hundreds of brasseries, restaurants, terraces, boutiques, markets, you name it....
Our studio is a 2 minute walk to Palais Royal metro station (metro 1 and 7 ), 3 minutes to Pyramides (metro 14 and 7), plenty of busses and Velib down the road.
Access to the studio from airport Orly:
Take the Orlybus, the most direct and easiest way to get into Paris. You're arriving at Place Denfert-Rochereau. Bus 68 takes you very close to rue de Richelieu, getting off at first stop on avenue de l'Opéra.
Count two hours from touch down to 27 Richelieu
From Airport Charles de Gaulle CDG:
Take any train to the centre of Paris and change at Chatelet to line 1 direction la Défense, get off at Louvre /Palais Royal. Please have a look on (website hidden) maps how to walk from the station to our house, will only take a few minutes. It all depends on which exit you choose, but walk away from Louvre, towards the north. Cross the big square towards the Comedie Française theatre on Place Colette. Walk past it towards square Malraux (fountains) and turn right (walk underneath arches of the theatre) towards rue de Richelieu.
Another option is
Count two hours from touch down to 27 Richelieu
From Gare du Nord : take métro line 4 direction Porte d’Orléans, change at Chatelet to line 14 direction St. Lazare, get off at Pyramides on avenue de L'Opéra. Walk down the avenue, away from de L'Opéra towards Hotel du Louvre/Comédie Française (theatre with arcades in front). Turn left into rue de Richelieu.
Or take a taxi which costs about 10€.
Traveling by metro and bus is very easy and efficient. We advise you to buy a carnet (10 or 20 tickets) at one of the ticket machines, follow the instructions in English, you pay by credit card.
We are so central that you can walk to almost all sights.
You could also try the velib, (website hidden), but only if you're used to cycling in cities.
Other Things to Note
5 flights of stairs and no elevator, you'd better be fit...
Please don't talk loud when you go up and down the stairs, same in the courtyard at night. No loud music, just behave like you would in any apartment building....
When you come across Maggie our 'concierge' give her a big smile and introduce yourself. She knows about your stay.
Make sure you always lock the "service" door, when you go up and when you leave the building.
Make sure you shut the door of the studio WITH the keys in your hand....Never leave the keys in the lock inside the studio. (In case you do forget to take them with you after you have shut the door with the keys inside the lock, we'll have to replace the whole lock which is a costly business for which you'll be responsible I'm afraid.....)
Close the velux windows before you leave for the day, it might rain which could damage the parquet and the bed upstairs.
Keep the shower curtain INSIDE the shower basin.
Turn off the heater/fan when you leave the studio.
We advise you to print out this page
The keyword for this studio is really it's location. Not only is it close to the Louvre (2 minutes or less) but if you walk in the other direction you have access to restaurants, supermarkets, shopping and a beautiful park with a wonderful fountain.
The studio is nestled comfortably among the rooftops of Paris and has a charm that is hard to beat. The first time you walk up the narrow wooden stairs you will be skeptical. The second time you walk up you realize that this is just Parisian charm at it's best and even though you are winded you can't help but smile and feel a little better.
A fair warning is that the studio is on the fifth floor and there is no elevator. This was never a problem for us, but stairs are a problem this is something to think about.
Inside the studio you'll find everything up to modern standards. It is small, even cramped at times but that is part of the charm.
The internet connection in the studio worked great for us. A very nice modern touch among the rooftops of Paris.
Monique was out of town for the weekend but she left great instructions so that we could retrieve the key. She also wrote a guide to the neighborhood that was extremely useful and we used her restaurant recommendations a few times and were very happy with them. During our stay she even wrote and asked if we were doing okay. She is a hostess that I would not think twice about staying with again.
If you want the essence of Paris and you can handle stairs this is the studio to rent.
Monique was incredibly welcoming and communicative about our stay. The place was exactly as described...a long walk up many steps, but worth it for the location, amenities and friendliness of the hosts. It was small but very efficiently laid out. It had everything you could need for a great stay in Paris.
Monique was a perfect host, before our arrival she got in contact with us several times to give us information about the apartement, how to get there and she gave us excellent instructions on how to obtain the keys. We met her once during our stay and she was friendly and helpful!
The apartement is very nice and cozy, there is everyrhing you need for a couple of days in the city (including pots and pans) and everything was clean. The location is perfect, 5 minutes to Louvre and there is lot´s of restaurants around there. We will definitevely come back and we will recommend this place to our friends!
We loved our stay in this great apartment. As the reviews all mention, the stairs should be taken into consideration. However, the apartment itself is comfortable and clean. Monique was incredibly responsive, even though we weren't able to meet her in person (next time!). The location can't be beat, as the apartment is close to so many good restaurants and cafes. If you are looking for a place in the 1st, you can't do much better!
Recommendation! Central location and the nice appartment team up to provide a great stay in Paris. Ideally located within 2 minutes from the Louvre and amidst many places to eat out, have coffee or just get high quality cheases and bread, the appartment provides a home you'll want to return to. This is due to the thoughtful floor plan with everything in its place, the decoration and last not least the friendly contact and reception. Our next stay in Paris will, given vacancy, be with Monique.
I highly recommend this studio,
very tastefully decorated, very well equipped, very clean, perfectly situated in the city, most of the main attractions in walking distance, enough space for two, enough storage, good heating, nice and large bed, slept very well, very friendly host, easy, fast and very clear communication, be sure you are able to carry your suitcase up the 5 stairs, we will definitely come again. thank you, Monique
Monique made my wife and daughter feel very welcome. She provided great tips on restaurants and local shops. She graciously invited them to tea but unfortunately they were on the way out and the opportunity didn't materialize again.
One caution is that the apartment is five flights up a very narrow steep winding staircase and one should be prepared for that when booking.

I'm Dutch, an English teacher, sculptor and ceramist and my husband Emmanuel has just retired as an international lawyer. We live in Paris, close to the Palais Royal and have a pied à terre on one of the main canals in Amsterdam, the best of both worlds..!
We have a lot more time now to spend traveling and enjoying the every day life in other cities and places in the world, mostly by way of home exchange and Airbnb.
Our studio just above our apartment in Paris is used by our children, friends and relatives and we have made it available to Airbnb travelers as well. Thanks to the positive airbnb experience we have decided to create a listing for our Amsterdam apartment, a very special place indeed. We'll be happy to welcome you to the heart of Paris and of Amsterdam. A bientôt, tot ziens, looking forward! Monique and Emmanuel
