After a day in busy bustling Ubud or on a temple tour or other activities you need a place to relax. Villa Budi is the place. Your stay includes a fabulous daily breakfast and full staff services.
A stunning view over almost 270 degrees is the defining element of Villa Budi. From the massive uninterrupted sweep of the rice fields almost due south to the mountains in north and the terraces to the northeast, you'll live on the huge wrap-around outside decks and soak up Bali into your very bones. Villa Budi features a lovely entrance hall, indoor/outdoor dining and living areas and a large well equipped full kitchen area with granite counters and lots of storage.
Villa Budi is designed in modern minimalist style to celebrate tropical sophistication and endorse the healthy benefits of fresh air and natural lighting with an open living, dining and kitchen space overlooking an ocean of rice. It's a perfect spot to spend hours relaxing and swimming in the beautiful infinity pool right on the edge of the raised bluff.
The living room is tastefully furnished for relaxation with a large teak dining table and traditional Javanese sofa along with casual seating. The entire villa opens up to the north and west for complete indoor/indoor outdoor living.
The two bedrooms each soak up the ambiance of the ocean of rice to the west and north. The front bedroom looks out directly over the rice fields below and its bathroom has both a garden and a full tub as well as rain shower. The rear north-facing bedroom has a unique bed design that permits either a queen or two singles and a garden bathroom with spacious rain shower.
Villa Budi is your own private world yet steps away from Harmony's 15 meter infinity pool. The Harmony pool is situated on the very edge of the bluff overlooking the rice and has a shallow end seating area for relaxing after you've done your laps! It's central to all the Harmony villas yet large enough for privacy. We don't have pool hours so feel free to take a moonlight swim at 3 am!
One of the favorites of Budi's guests is to awaken before dawn and watch the early light lift the mist over the ocean of rice a few meters below the expansive deck with coffee in hand. It's an experience like no other in Bali. Stay long enough and you'll experience the whole cycle of rice cultivation from planting to harvesting and the local religious festivals celebrating Bali's unique cultural heritage.
Our onsite staff will help you with all your needs from the wonderful daily cooked breakfasts (for up to 4 people), arranging tours and sightseeing, car or scooter rental, personal laundry and itineraries as well as giving you tips for the best shopping and massage in Ubud. A private chef can also be arranged to cook you traditional Indonesian cuisine right in the privacy of your own villa in your fully equipped kitchen. Or, if you would like to do it yourself, book a private cooking class. Our chef is very reasonable and an amazing cook! We can organize lunch or evening dinning in your villa which is truly one of our guests’ favorite experiences. Just ask our staff at check in and they'll take good care of you.
For those wishing to cook for themselves, we are only one mile away from the main supermarket (Coco supermarket) so you'll be able to stock up with local provisions.
Enjoy a wonderful daily cooked breakfast prepared in your villa each morning of delicious pancakes or eggs, fresh tropical fruit tea or coffee and juice to start your day in paradise! Breakfast will be prepared in your villa each morning from 8-11am. If you would like to change breakfast times, please ensure you notify our villa manager at check in so we can accommodate you.
Villa Budi is located on the edge of a huge rice paddy in the village of Lodtunduh, about 2.5 km from Ubud and not far from the Monkey Forest and all the world class shopping on Hanuman Street and the cultural activities and restaurants in Ubud. We are very centrally located for all of Bali's sights and activities. Sanur beach is close (about 12 miles) and Seminyak. Kuta and Legian are easy drives for a whole day out with a different vibe. Or you can go up the hill to Kintamani and the hot springs at Lake Batur in an hour or so. Temples abound everywhere - from Besakih, the "Mother Temple" to Tanah Lot on the ocean (two of the most famous and holy) and we can organize tours to anywhere on the island and to Lombok too....
It's cooler in the Ubud area than the beach. A/C is not needed at Harmony due to our location right on the edge of the rice fields. We almost always get a breeze and Budi has 4 powerful overhead fans and a huge high ceiling to keep the air flowing. The breezes complemented by ceiling fans are usually enough to keep you cool even at the warmest time of year. You'll find our design for indoor/outdoor living works for your comfort.
There's free wifi, 2 laptop sized safes towel service, TV/DVD, parking, laundry (by arrangement), daily staff service, a yoga deck, lush landscaping and the priceless ambience of the Harmony lifestyle.
The Villa is available for daily rental (2 night minimum please) or longer. Please ask us for rates for longer term stays (over 10 days). We have a flexible check in and out time and are happy to accommodate you if you are coming from outside of Bali. We can arrange airport pickup and drop off for you for a reasonable charge.
*** Please also note we must collect a 10% Indonesian government hotel tax payable upon check in which is payable in US$ or Indonesian Rupiah.
Although we welcome children (our pool has a child' bathing area), Harmony isn't designed specifically as a child safe property so you will need to be responsible for them at all times..

... and finally .... enjoy the wonderful cycle of the rice paddys! Depending on when you visit you’ll see the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. It’s one of the best things about visiting Harmony! The cycle is fascinating to watch no matter when you come!

Interaction with Guests
I'm not always in Bali as I travel extensively myself, but our staff are really wonderful and will treat you like family. If I'm lucky to be staying while you're there, I'm always available to give you tips and pointers on the best way to maximize your stay in Ubud and Bali.
Our village is still mostly agricultural and its a fascinating place to experience real Bali village life which can't be found in touristy areas such as Kuta or Seminyak. That's the lovely thing about our area of Lodtunduh village.
You'll likely encounter ceremonies, celebrations, weddings, a cremation perhaps (a big event in Bali) , the local temple festivals. But most of all you'll see (depending on when you visit) the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying.
You'll go for a walk in the village and probably see the village men parade their fowl and perhaps experience a cockfight – although you may not approve, it’s very much a part of village culture. If you want you can wager and maybe win!
There's a taxi service right in our village to take you to and from the airport (about $30) and into town (about $5) a few minutes away and we can also rent you scooters (and helmets!) for about $6 per day. There's parking at the villa. Please note although the airport is only about 20 miles away it can take about an hour and a half. The roads are small and there's a lot of traffic in Bali!
Villa Budi is one of five villas at Harmony and while Harmony is large enough so each Villa is private, it's small enough for community. We don't have a lot of rules except have maximum fun and relaxation
We ask you respect other guests privacy as they will yours and please don't smoke except on your private deck (not inside the villa). There's some basic stuff about being in a tropical environment; our staff will advise you on arrival. Please also note that although we love children Harmony is not designed to be a child safe property and if you do book with children you will need to be totally responsible for them at all times..
We do have a few suggestions though....
We like to suggest you visit the village shops to buy your beer and snacks from the locals rather than going into town.
We have a resident dog called Trixie. She's a real sweetheart. Enjoy her.
Watch the rice... it's mesmerizing.
The best location in Ubud...PERIOD.
Its a pleasure overall. I did not meet Michael personally during my staff but Michael's staffs were super helpful from the very beginning. The Budi villa is amazing with spectacular view of the ricefields from the terrace and open space villa. Though I personally was afraid with the geckos! and the staff still remember how terrified i was by covering my head with a hat just in case the gecko fell of my head!
I came to the villas for the specific reason of avoiding the noises of fireworks and firecrackers for my dogs during the new years eve celebration. It was a right decision! The location is a bit remote off Lodtunduh area and all i can see was spectacular fireworks galore from afar!
Please be mindful that the swimming pool shown in the pic is shared with other guests from other villas. I mistaken this as private swimming pool for my own villa. The only thing that I would suggest to improve though (1) internet connectivity - wifi doesnt work properly from my villa; (2) no tv network and only small numbers of DVDs provided (most of them are even movies for small kids)
Hi Rainintha, thanks for the review.
Couple of comments. Villa Budi has its own repeater for the wifi network and it usually works without a problem so perhaps the Internet provider was having problems rather than it being our internal network.
As for the pool, it does state in our listing this is a shared pool with all the villas.
We actually don't really provide DVD's, only what we have collected over the last couple of years from guests leaving them after a stay. We couldn't cater to everyone's tastes so we decided not to try to provide them. There are several DVD shops in town and guests generally buy their own movie choices (about $1 each) if they don't find something at the villas they like.
We also don't have a TV network service. That is also stated in our listing.
Pouring rain when we arrived... Staff getting ready for holiday. Loved rice fields and pool and view...walk to town scary with traffic and long...cab rides and traffic!
Hi Pamela, thanks for the feedback. In Bali for 3 of the religious holidays in a year our staff have a day off and the dates change because it's a lunar calendar. This year it was Kuningan holiday during your stay and traffic can be busy when it's just before a holiday or festival.
Staff do make local calls for guests on request who choose not to purchase a very cheap and easily available local sim card. We tried lending phones in the past but we kept getting them lost so we discontinued it.
We had 4 nights at this Villa. We were made very welcome by the staff and Michael gave us some good tips for activities. My 15 year old nieces loved the pool and we were the sole users for most of the time. The pool has a lovely setting looking out onto the rice paddy and it is shaded so freshingly cool. Breakfast was delicious, lovely fruit and for those who don't like eggs or pancake, the staff are happy to provide toast and friend tomato, just ask.
Margaret and her nieces were lovely to have at the villa and I was so glad they got to experience the cooking classes. I take note of the rice fields map and we will draw one up. There's actually a walk that is a bit longer to the cultural center but stays on the concrete irrigation canal walkway behind the trees from our paddies, so it's a bit easier than on the field dykes. Look forward to welcoming Margaret back.
Beautiful villa, staff here are very nice, we enjoy the time here very much
It was a beautiful stay at the villa. Everthing was great, especially the view of the ricefields and the breakfast. The villa is spacious and gets cleaned up every day. The stuff is very helpful and friendly. Book their private chef, its an amazing food!! I can really recommend this place and will come back!!
The villa name exactly describes what it is: Harmony. The architecture of the villas, the swimming pool, the garden, the surrounding rice fields and the staff. An excellent place to take a rest while being only 10 minutes by bike from the center of Ubud. We would have loved to stay longer!
