This lovely one-bedroom apartment boasts beautiful, wooded scenery, right in the heart of the city. Located in Kansas City's coveted and historic Westside neighborhood.
This lovely garden-level apartment in a renovated brownstone boasts beautiful, wooded scenery, right in the heart of the city. Located in Kansas City's coveted and historic Westside neighborhood, the apartment is within walking distance to downtown Kansas City, the Kansas City Convention Center/Bartle Hall, Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, Crossroads Arts District, Sprint Center, Power and Light entertainment district, and more. Just a half block from great restaurants, cool coffee shops, a mini grocery store, and bus stop.
Remodeling was just completed on this 900-square foot, one-bedroom, one bath apartment that occupies the entire first floor of an historic 1889 brownstone building, with a private entrance and private back patio. (Our home occupies the top two floors of the building--convenient for a spare cell phone charger and the like!)
The apartment is equipped with WiFi and a satellite cable; separate living room with comfortable sofa, reading nook, and large television; kitchen fully stocked with cheerful Fiestaware dishes and silverware, wine glasses, bottle openers, a Keurig one-cup coffee maker, a mini refrigerator, and a microwave. Tea, coffee, bottled water, and granola bars are stocked for your stay. Soft, fresh linens and plenty of fluffy towels are provided, along with plenty of extras should you need them. The bathroom is stocked with soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and body lotions, as well as a hair dryer and other necessities.
The bedroom, with a queen-sized bed, opens to a private patio with seating and a view of the natural surrounds. The ceiling fan and light are operated by remote control, so you needn't even get up to turn the lights out! Room darkening curtains keep the room dark and cool for those who wish to sleep in.
A second queen-sized EZ Bed is available for set-up in the living room for 3 or more guests. If you're a yogi or like to stay in shape while you travel, we can provide a yoga mat and exercise ball.
Although the apartment is relatively well-insulated from the sounds of our home above, we are parents of a young child. To ensure your sound sleep, we provide a high-quality white-noise machine in the bedroom. To date, our guests report that they haven't heard a peep. (Whew!)
The apartment is thoroughly cleaned between stays.
Westside Neighborhood - According to USA Today, which cites the Westside as one of the top 10 up-and-coming neighborhoods in the US, "Urban dwellers have infused life into the Westside neighborhood. One of the more diverse neighborhoods of the City, this neighborhood has a beautiful variety of homes from historic Victorian and Colonial to post modern. This is a neighborhood of an eclectic mix of local restaurants like Chez Elle Creperie & Coffeehouse, Blue Bird Bistro, Novel, and Westside Local Restaurant & Beer Garden as well as a large variety of Mexican restaurants and bars on the Southwest Boulevard corridor." Just a half block from the apartment, you will find a small bodega selling groceries and other basics, as well as beer and wine. Small boutique shops sell artist-made jewelry and housewares, as well as vintage clothing and other one-of-a-kind items. Life on Kansas City's Westside is an expression of those who have chosen to live there, a celebration of creativity and diversity.
It's hard to add much to the other positive reviews for this unit without repeating praise. Everything was delivered as advertised - clean, spacious, great location. The hosts were super helpful for us and gave us great recommendations on things to do (we were new to the area). There was a problem with the wifi initially and they worked around our schedule to have it promptly fixed. We had a great trip and wouldn't look elsewhere for a place to stay when returning to Kansas City.
So many positives:
Impeccably clean, elegant living space
Private entrance with self check in
Half the price of a comparable hotel room
Walking distance to cafes
Free on street parking
Extremely comfortable bed and comforter
Kitchen / refrigerator / microwave
Large shower / great bathroom
We absolutely loved our visit. The neighborhood and apartment were even better than in photos. Margaret and Nathan were both very helpful and responsive when we had a few questions and went above and beyond as hosts. We would love to go back again.
If looking for an authentic, charming and ideally located KC neighborhood experience, Margaret and Nathan’s apartment will prove to be the perfect pick. Situated just a block from several cafes and a bakery (where you might want to place an order in advance), their basement/first-level suite is finished, with many artful, clean and comfortable touches plus a front patio and backyard porch hideaway.
As a newcomer to AirBnB and a weary traveler of the road, I didn’t know the proper way to check in or what time I’d be landing. M&N made the could-be anxious affair easy as pie, painless, warm and welcoming.
One final tip: Be sure to schedule some time to spend at the apartment. My only regret is not taking time to soak in the many living spaces they provide. If only I could have stayed longer!
What a perfect garden apartment in a great neighborhood on the westside of Kansas City. We stayed the week of Thanksgiving and found Nathan and Margaret to be lovely hosts. The brownstone is situated near very popular, happening restaurants. We loved walking to get coffee or to have friends meet us at local restaurants. This is a dedicated AIRbnb apartment used only for guests - loved it!
This is a fantastic experience ! We arrived at this apartment in the freezing weather and immediately fell in love with the beautiful house, it's warm and inviting interior, it's quiet location and the way that the hosts had scrupulously renovated it. Nathan arrived soon after and explained how everything works. He was very helpful in pointing out the neighbourhood eateries and nothing was a problem. The apartment is huge - there is plenty of space, very clean and everything you would need is here. Down the street, however, is a feast of fantastic restaurants and cafes, that all work with local produce and love. We could have happily stayed longer and worked our way through all the menus. It was a fantastic experience and we thoroughly recommend it and when we come back to Kansas City we will definitely stay here again.
Margaret and Nathan's space was perfect and in a great part of town. They sent instructions for check in the day before I arrived and were available to answer any questions I had. The space itself is decorated very nicely and has great amenities. Loved staying here!
Nathan is from a small town in Iowa, and Margaret is from Lawrence, Kansas, where both attended the University of Kansas. Nathan is an entrepreneur running two startup companies--one focused on the tech realm and one that brokers reclaimed construction materials nationwide. Margaret works in public relations and fundraising for an art museum. As our jobs might reflect, we're into art, technology, and the environment.
