Very nice appartement in a very interestig non turisty area of Venice, perfect for a couple, very close to waterbus station S.Basilio.
Maurizia and her husband are adorable, she speeks french as well.
Roberto met us at the Vaporreto stop and helped us with our luggage back to the apartment. Venice is magical and this apartment will add to the uniqueness of our visit. The apartment is old and historical, but updated and clean.
The location is great. I was concerned that it was far from the main sites. Venice is small so everything is relatively close anyway. Plus this location is away from the tourist crowds and is very quiet. It is also convenient to the bus and train station. There is a main square with a local feel with very few tourists. There are also a couple of markets close by. The vaporetto stop is a short walk away. We enjoyed riding the vaporetto around and recommend the 24 hour or more pass if you like riding the boats. If not, as mentioned everything is relatively close anyway.
The hosts are close and accessible during your stay. Maurizia made us a taxi reservation for the early morning.
Maurizia and Roberto were very thoughtful and attentive to what we needed. I was worried on two counts. We didn't arrive on time during the first day and we left late on our last day. They didn't make it an issue though to my relief.
Roberto welcomed us at the boat station in St. Basilio and helped us with our luggage. While walking towards their home, he gave tips about the area and Venice, which were very handy. He suggested that we dine at Osteria da Toni and even gave us a list of the food we should try. The food was great and very reasonable.
Roberto and Maurizia shared with us the history of the house and while it is many centuries old was equipped with modern amenities that go well with the place. It was cozy, comfortable and clean. And because it is not around the touristy part of Venice, the place is very quiet at night. The refrigerator was also stacked with juice, jam and bread. They even provided coffee and taught us to use the brewer in the kitchen.
Roberto and Maurizia oriented us about Venice and the generalmdirections. They also provided materials that were really useful in going around the city like what walks to take and what sites to see.
The home is about 20 minutes away from St. Mark's Square but because there are sites along the way it is a good walk. When we told Roberto that we wanted to see churches he recommended a couple and they were on the mark. He also told us where we can get a gondola ride just so we can experience it without spending a fortune.
We were very fortunate to have stayed with Roberto and Maurizia and in the occassions that we chat it was very informative and warm. On the morning of our last day, I saw Roberto and he helped us again with directions on the places we wanted to see.
We weren't able to explore Venice as much as we wanted for we only had a day and a half and we often lingered on the places we liked. I would like to visit Venice again and I plan to stay with them again. I'd definitely recommend their home to my friends and family. To Roberto and Maurizia, thank you so much for hosting us.
Maurizia was very helpful upon arrival in Venice. The apartment was clean and spacious...with a good bed. It was a very quiet neighborhood with a beautiful church in the courtyard.. It is a quiet neighborhood.. With a supermarket nearby.. And close to all.. Also a great restaurant that the host introduced us to.. with amazing food on the canal
