Our stay at Alessandra and Francesco's place in Cetona provided the perfect relaxing interlude in an otherwise very active trip for our group of four. The home is an absolute masterpiece of design and is comfortable, spacious and from numerous windows and the terrace, has some of the finest Tuscan views that you could hope for. Cetona is a spectacular hill town - quiet and off the typical tourist grid but with a number of good shops and restaurants and enough activity to make people watching interesting. We would certainly recommend this to other travelers to the area.
We stayed four nights in Cetona, and the tower house was great. While we had organized everything through Alessandra, Francesco was our host, and he did a great job. Alessandra had sent us a "Top Ten" list of things to do, and Francesco helped us to almost finish the list. He organized reservations at the local restaurants, which were outstanding (especially Merlo), and a special dinner hosted by friends who took us through an authentic Italian menu. The location is beautiful, and it's worth walking through the little town of Cetona - it's a classic hilltown, the Piazza Garibaldi has more shops than you'd think, and the walk along the top of the town is worth the effort. This house is highly recommended.
We didn't meet allessandra as she was away but we could not speak more highly of Francesco who did everything to make our stay very special. He even drove my husband to find special cheeses, helped with lovely local products and wine, booked a dinner at the local restaurant ( very beautiful food) and booked a very special cook in the home lunch with Paulo and Sabina. Our daughter loved cooking Pizzeta and biscotti in their home kitchen whilst we drank lovely local wine and chatted to Paulo and Sabina whilst they cooked fantastic three course meal for us! Grappa was the last original memory! A visit to a local cheese making farm topped of the trip. We loved Cetona as it was very authentic Italian and not full of tourists, but close enough to drive to nearby towns like Pienza and Montelcino. Thankyou Francesco for this very special trip. Phoebe says hi, and loved the doggies and cats!!
The tower house was everything we expected. We loved our experience at Cetona. If the pictures of the house appeal to you (as they did to us) then you will enjoy very much this accommodation
Francesco was so helpful and picked us up from the train station and drove us around to get cheese and wine and to meet a friend of his who does cooking classes (no pressure at all). My wife was very keen to do a cooking class and we very much enjoyed the experience (and it was not expensive like some other courses on offer). We hired a car (which Francesco helped us with and dropped me down to Chiusi to pick up) and toured many of the close by towns (Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto and others). Driving on the right side of the road (the wrong side for Australians) was a new experience and the crazy Italian drivers who seemed to be doing twice the speed limit made it an experience I will not forget (hopefully no tickets to arrive in mail).
My only complaint is we did not have enough time and would have liked more days. We cooked most times at home (as we were sick of eating out) and loved to be able to sit and watch the sun go down with food and wine. If we did need anything or had any problems Francesco was nearby to assist and nothing was any trouble. I would thank Alessandra and Francesco very much the house is great and the town is the quiet little town that we wanted. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone.
My family and I had a wonderful stay at Alessandra's place. Cetona is a lovely town and the house has so much character. There is plenty to do in the area, but this is also a great place just to relax. Alessandra and Francesco were incredibly accommodating and warm hosts. We would love to visit again and recommend it highly to anyone else!
This was the most unusual place we have ever stayed, invoking the atmosphere of a medieval castle, and yet with wonderful furnishings and comforts-- good warm bed, comfortable deep tub with plenty of hot water, fireplace to sit before and read a Floretine historical novel on a cold and rainy night. The Tuscan countryside was beautiful; we had a car and visited Siena as well as some of the small villages. Cetona itself was lovely, and had 2 restaurants, both with delicious meals. Francesco was very helpful, very responsive to our questions and needs. We spent 5 days and had a great time.
Staying in Cetona at Alessandra & Francesco's beautiful tower house was a highlight of our time in Italy. Francesco's enthusiasm and willingness to introduce us to many aspects of local hospitality gave us a true taste of Tuscan life and culture.
The decor and detailing of the tower house is beautiful and the views of the countryside, absolutely stunning.
We would highly recommend staying here and we'd do so again without hesitation.
Thank you again for making our stay in Cetona so memorable.
