Interaction with Guests
Interaction with our guests varies. Some guests, we have hosted guests for dinners, or taken on tours. Others are not around as much, and so we do not see them as much. It really depends on who the guests are, and what preferences they have.
But we do love to give our guests information about Vancouver, and to highlight some of the amazing things our city has to offer!
Our neighbourhood is beautiful, with many nice homes, and lovely tree-lined streets. There are several parks within walking distance. Also, we are within walking distance to any amenities, including groceries and public transit.
There are several bus routes within a 5 minute walk from our house. These include the (phone number hidden), and 480. These buses take you to many places, including downtown, UBC, Kitsilano (and the beach!), Metrotown Shopping Centre, and out to Richmond. Most of these buses also connect with our SkyTrain network, which covers a large part of Vancouver as well.
The smell of the roses in the gorgeous garden greeted us whenever we opened the gate. My kids fell in love with what they called "The Garden House". Clean and comfortable, it suited our needs perfectly. Recommended.
We stayed for four months at Daria's and John's place and had a wonderful time there. They are extremely supportive, kind and generous persons. During our whole stay, we could use their bikes, the garden, and even enjoy homegrown vegetables. The apartment is equipped with everything one needs.
My friend and I came to Vancouver for our medical electives, and could not have made a better choice for accommodation. The suite is spacious, comfortable and furnished with everything we needed, including kitchen utensils and access to a washing machine and drier, and opens into Daria's beautiful garden. It's in a safe area, conveniently located close to bus stops for access to the Skytrain station, downtown and the UBC campus, so getting out and about was never a problem. The 24-hour buses (22 and 7) from downtown meant getting home wasn't a problem, either. There's also a supermarket around the corner, which was great for those last-minute dashes when you realise you have everything to cook a curry except an onion.
However, by far the best part about choosing this suite was the fact that Daria and John were living upstairs (for most of our stay, at least!). They went out of their way to ensure we were happy and felt at home; being kind enough to give us a driving tour of the city and its history, sending articles and flyers our way when we were unsure of how to entertain ourselves in our spare time, giving plenty of advice for all sorts of queries. Daria and John were very accessible without being intrusive, and we are incredibly grateful for their kindness. It was a pleasure to share their home with them for a short time, and we will be sure to check in with them when we come to visit Vancouver again.
What an amazing place to stay! The house is every bit as lovely as the photos. The gardern is right outside the door and very pretty. It's convenient being able to duck straight up to the safe way across the road and there's a great Chinese bakery that does awesome sticky rice. We found it pretty easy to get into downtown - there's a bus stop just once block away. John and Daria are lovely and they've set up the place with everything you could need. Awesome.

About the Host, Jon
I am posting this on behalf of my parents.
John and Daria live in the upper portion of their dutch colonnial-style house on the West side of Vancouver. John is a semi-retired physician who loves the outdoors, as well as a good discussion. Daria is a retired occupational therapist, who is an avid gardener and amateur botanist.
They both love travelling and meeting people, and are always warm and open with our guests. They have even been known to invite our various guests over for a BBQ or a glass of wine. They're wonderful people, so maybe you'll be lucky enough to meet them, if they're not off on some adventure.
