BEWARE OF BEING MISTREATED - THIS IS NOT FOR LONG-TERM GUESTS!! Airbnb has a long-term stay policy to protect hosts - their policy is extremely unfair to guests who have no way to get refund even in case of inhospitable situations - so hosts have ultimate say on whether a reservation can be amended or not and to make no refunds etc. Shelley knows this Airbnb policy too well and exploits it to her advantage. I did not have a pleasant stay at her place at all - especially ever since I confirmed my long-term stay there. I had a long-term booking from April 20 to June 30 - but it was increasingly stressful to stay there - and so I was forced to decide to vacate the place 3 weeks earlier! But, due to Airbnb not offering any refund for long-term reservations, and Shelley exploiting this - unfortunately I had to lose money and was not offered a refund for the 3 weeks of unused stay!! For the following reasons I ABSOLUTELY CAUTION AGAINST RESERVING LONG-TERM with this host: 1. Shelley is very sweet to short-term guests but as soon as you are a long-term guest she begins her disrespectful behavior as she knows you have no recourse. I stayed with her for a couple of weeks in March and reserved to come back for 2 months in April. At that time of my first stay - I made a simple request to leave a couple of luggage pieces in her basement. Then she was sweet and said 'yes' but later she kept complaining about it. Its not like I forced her to keep my stuff. I already have a storage in NYC I could have put my bags in, if she had said no. 2. Shelley advertises in her listing photos of beautiful common spaces - and when you move there she says common spaces are for everyone's use. But, then she follows you around and sends critical notes, "memos" of house rules of how you violated something or the other. This is incessant via email and texts. I had a particularly distressing incident on May 15, when she sent a string of multiple email for "not shutting the door to patio and leaving it unattended" ALL WITHIN A SPAN OF 5-10 MINUTES it took me to go up the stairs to clean garbage and bring down the stairs to take out to patio - and even though she was in the kitchen the whole while and certainly I had not left any door "unattended" to cause any safety risks. This is just an example. She has an annoying pattern of doing this. 3. Shelley runs the house like a dorm with tons of people coming in and out, which is something that was not honestly communicated in her posting. And all of us long-term guests had to bear the burden of keeping up her house to some 'over-achieving standard' she likes to set - even though several...
I had the most wonderful experience staying with Shelley, her house is very warm & friendly, I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay
Shelly place is close to the metro and everything you need in Brooklyn, Shelley recommendation are great!
Thank you Shelley & Jean Lu for hosting me and I will miss our conversations
I will be back!
Shelley's home was the perfect place to stay as I was in town getting to know different areas of Brooklyn and apartment hunting. Shelley was more than welcoming and very generous in her advice and suggestions along my search findings! It was very much appreciated and the stay was great. Quiet block, great sleep and easy to scoot into town with the subway a few blocks around the corner. Many thanks!
I stayed 3 weeks in Shelleys house and I had a great time. The house is beautiful, very clean with lovely details and decorations. Shelley is a very warm, welcoming host and i felt very welcome at her house and her great family. Manhattan is easy to reach by train in about 30 min. The neighborhood is safe, even by night. So dont be afraid of Brooklyn :-) I would definitely recommend Shelley's house and hope you see you soon again.
Shelley was very accessible and responsive to emails prior to my arrival in NYC. The advert accurately describes the facilities on offer, and the rooms, bathroom and communal areas are kept clean and tidy. The nearby subway station also makes commuting to other parts of the city a pleasure. Overall, a very comfortable and pleasant stay.
Shelley is a very warm and welcoming host. She has been so helpful in getting to the know the area and in general with advice about the New York experience. The house is beautifully and considerately decorated and styled. This was the perfect place from which to base myself during my stay here.

About the Host, Shelley
Cool, artsy Caribbean chic with global/European style. I founded a local film and art festival and love my neighborhood, Flatbush/Brooklyn - I was born, raised and now am a property owner here! I love design, food and gardening. Oh! and I'm a media executive that is now doing her own thing which is great. Look forward to meeting you.
