  • A good place to be. Everything that one might need, was available. The outside (house, garden, view, neighbourhood) is not very appealing, but the inside (beds, kitchen etc.) is good. The price is very reasonable.

  • Nice, clean rooms. We had a wonderful stay.

  • Penfold Cottage was clean, cozy and comfortable. It is almost like a home away from home. Our extended family of 7 adults and 2 children were very happy with our 1 night stay there. The cottage is very spacious and had enough room for all of us. The only downside is that there is only one bathroom. However there is an extra toilet (also double as laundry) at a separate extension behind the cottage which I would not call a bathroom because there is no way of taking bath there. It was therefore very challenging for all of us to get a decent shower during our stay there.

Emma was a very pleasant and warm hostess, who was very helpful with tips of places of interest, etc. She also made an extra bed upon request to allow both my kids to sleep in the same room with us.

  • Emma's place in Invermay was great! The city centre is just a short drive from there and there's also a 24 h McDonald's if you get desperately hungry. We didn't notice any noise from the trucks that previous reviews mentioned, probably blocked out by the wind outside howling away. All in all, a nice place at a decent price, especially when you are with a party of four or more!

  • Emma is a pleasant and helpful lady and Penfold Cottage is very well presented. We were a family of 6 adults and 4 children and found the cottage to be very satisfactory for our needs. It is well situated, close to the city and other places of interest. There is not much to say on the negative side except that the road noise can be quite bad, especially the trucks that rumble by. If you are a light sleeper I would recommend that you take the bedroom away from the road.

  • The house is great, our bed was really comfortable, and all of the amenities that are provided were excellent except for the pots and pans in the kitchen.
An extra touch was the wine rack with very reasonably priced bottles of wine to purchase while there (an honesty box in the kitchen provided for said wine)
Laundry facilities were also very good.
Be aware that no breakfast or internet connection is provided...(we forgot to check the amenities list before we arrived.) Tea, coffee, sugar, and salt and pepper are provided. (which is perfectly ok if that is what you are expecting)

    Overall, a good experience.

  • We were met by Emma and made to feel very welcome. The house seems newly renovated and is clean and in good condition, freshly painted throughout, high ceilings and polished floors. Beds were comfy and basic amenities are all in place - TV, washing machine, microwave, fridge, stove top/oven etc. The house will improve as more of the little things are added or improved.

The biggest downside is that from 6am-ish heavy trucks rumble the house. If you're staying during the week and plan to get out and about for the day or if you're staying on the weekend this is probably fine but if you're expecting a quiet lie-in on a weekday, probably not the place for you.

All that said, this house is a great base for tripping around the Tamar Valley.

  • We enjoyed just one night's stay in this spacious and newly renovated house. Good option for anyone travelling with kids and has their own wheels. Kitchen was well equipped. The street has a mix of housing and some industry which didn't bother us, especially because it was the weekend, but could possibly be a bit noisy during the week.
