Welcome Everyone! We encourage you to message us with an inquiry before booking. We love answering any questions you might have about the room and the neighborhood.
This spacious and bright house is located in Long Island City - Queens, an area across the river from midtown Manhattan. We are across the street from the 7 subway line, which takes you straight to Manhattan (8 minutes to Grand Central, 12 minutes to Times Square). The E, M, and G subway lines are also one block away, giving just as speedy access to all parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn (5 min to Williamsburg, 30 min to Park Slope) and Queens.
We are close to the Queens MOMA PS1 museum, which also hosts outdoor dance parties on Saturdays in the summer. We are five minutes from a handful of good restaurants and bars in the LIC area. There is a 24-hour diner across the street where the food is decent, and uniquely New York!
This is a renovated historic townhouse from the 1880s on a landmark NYC block. It's got tall ceilings, plaster crown molding and old world charm. You will have the the access to the TOP 2 FLOORS of this duplexed house. We have been renovating and continually making the place cozy throughout the many years that we have lived here, and look forward to sharing it with you.
The Master Bedroom on the top floor with a King size bed is where you will be staying, and there is an attached office for your use, a total of 350 Square feet. On the first floor the spacious kitchen/dinning room has a huge selection of top-of-the-line cookware and utensils. It's an awesome kitchen to cook and host guests in. The bathroom is pretty self explanatory, with one shower and toilet.
There are windows that face the street, so you will hear some noise from the subway station, which is nearby (but that also means your travel time to the city will be short!). There is an air conditioning unit in the bedroom in the summer months.
We provide clean bedding and towels for the guests, and there is free super speedy wireless Internet, maintained by an on-site IT guy.
Laundry, groceries and parking:
Laundry is right in the basement of our house and the closest grocery store is about a 5 minute walk. For those of you with cars, you can usually find free, long-term parking with no problem in the evenings within a two-block radius. Finding parking in the daytime is more challenging.
Little bonuses: Iron and ironing table, free parking on the street in front of the house, no need to move the car once it has a spot. We can provide Yoga mats at no charge for you to practice during your stay (we only ask that you wash them after using them). If you are coming from another country, we can lend you an American cell phone into which to put an American SIM card. We have great maps and local directories to make navigating the city easy.
Looking forward to having you stay with us!

Super cool house, host, and value. Definitely social with people around, but not overwhelming at all, and the room and adjacent office were super comfy and sizable. Great fun location too. Train noise not an issue unless you're an extremely light sleeper.
Amazing!!!!!! the best place I´ve ever rent. Karl is incredible, the house huge, warm and confortable. All the persons I met in this place were kindly, respectfull and excelents roommaters. my next experience in NY will be there !!!!!! THANKS ALL FOR ALL!!!!!! WE LOVE YOU!
Genial!!!!!
I stayed with Karl for a full month and really enjoyed my time in the house. The household is a vibrant mix of young professionals and young creatives with a lot of great energy passing through the house. Karl himself was a great host, offering us cocktails when people were around for a drink and inviting us to Thanksgiving dinner.
The place itself if brilliantly located just one stop out of Manhattan on the E train, 12 minutes from Times Square on the 7 and the G train makes Brooklyn (especially Williamsburg) very accessible.
A few people in the reviews had mentioned the noise from the train but once i was used to it it wasn't an issue. There are a lot of stairs in the house, this didn't bother me personally but if you aren't interested in hiking up and down might not be for you. Basically if you're open to meeting new people and making the most of staying with some vibrant creatives you'll really enjoy the house Karl has set up.
Karl truly helped make our visit to NYC delightful. He was a great host, very informative, knowledgeable, and accommodating. He had a great welcome letter that outlined house rules, points of interest and maps. The room was just as described and very spacious and clean. Having an entry key gave us the freedom to come and go according to our own schedule. We used public transit system throughout our entire stay, and having two subway lines so close made commuting very convenient. Since the elevated train is across the street, there was noticeable track noise, but the access and location outweighed that for my daughter and me. Easy trip to Karl's house from JFK by AirTrain and subway was great and took about 45 min total! The location is absolutely perfect for accessing museums, and Manhattan locations within a few minutes. We walked to local restaurants and a coffee shop daily, and enjoyed the neighborhood we were staying in. We felt like we were "coming home" each evening. The biggest disappointment was that we were unable to see Karl's movie at the film festival because we had to catch a plane that same evening. I would definitely stay at Karl's place again. I feel like we made a new friend!
Karl is a great host. Once you step into his house, you'll recognize his artistic taste from the furniture to the pictures on his walls. We had an enjoyable stay for the weekend; the room provided was clean and spacious, and the subway stop was literally steps from the door. The area is also very close to MoMA and 5 Pointz. Highly recommend his place for NYC visitors.
I expected a lot by viewing the photographs and looking at the location but it was even better than we imagined. It was the most comfortable of all the places we stayed. I definitively recomend it
Karl was a wonderful host. I stayed there for a month and felt very welcome. He did everything to make my stay comfortable and I really enjoyed talking with him when we happened to meet. The room is big and it has an adjacent office space, it really is rare of NY standards. The pictures of the room and of the whole house are what it looks like in reality. The place is very close to Manhattan and the train is right there. I actually liked the sound of the train, it gave more character to the place and I did not even notice it after a while. The neighborhood is part industrial, part quiet streets with brownstones, which has a special character as well, and there are restaurants and coffee shops quite close. Also the MoMA PS1 (an annex to the MoMA in Manhattan) is one block away. Overall I felt very fortunate to find Karl's place and to get to meet Karl. I really recommend this place to anyone who is open to living outside (but close to) Manhattan in a more alternative neighborhood and is not picky about the sound of the train.
We spent a great days in Syl&Karl's house.
Didn't meet Syl, because she was abroad, but karl was a great host.
The apartment is very nice but there are too much stairs.
The best is that the subway station to Manhattan is infront of the apartment; only at two stops to Central Station.
We recommend this accomodation to visit New York easily.
Great location and fantastic hosts! Thoroughly enjoyed the stay and would definitely recommend again. The rooftop views were simply gorgeous as well.
First of all, Syl and Karl are great hosts! They are very nice and helpful and they really have a great place. Everything is clean and the room is comfy. The Subway is right across the street and it gets you to Times Square in about 10 minutes, so the location is awesome to discover Manhattan. We can recommend this place to everyone and will definitely stay here again.
