About This Listing
Welcome to my place.
I wish to offer you an unforgettable and comfortable place to stay in Reykjavik.
Private and clean as a hotel, but with the homely and elegant charm of a family home, a 1920's apartment in 101 Reykjavik.
I offer a very nice room recently renovated for 2 guests in the amazing city of Reykjavik.
The room is big and bright in a calm neighborhood. It has two new 90x200cm beds.
Towels and linens are provided upon arrival.
The bathroom is shared with 2 other rooms and the kitchen as well.
The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, coffee maker, electric kettle, microwave and everything you could expect to be in a standard kitchen
The apartment is located in the more posh and old part of Reykjavik with a lot of large interesting architectural houses. The swimming pool, Sundhöll Reykjavíkur, is only one minute walk from the apartment.
Located next to our famus church Hallgrímskirkja and only 2 min walk to Laugavegur, the main shopping street in Iceland. On Laugavegur you also have all the most popular bars, restaurants and cafés in Reykjavik. There is a 24 hour supermarket close by (5 min. walk) and a low-cost option on laugavegur (10 min walk). You will also have great access to public transportation. Hlemmur, the main bus station, is located in a 5 minute walk from the apartment. Right next to Hlemmur there is a taxi stop.
HOW TO GET HERE
The drive trom Keflavík airport to Reykjavík should take around 45 minutes. The Flybus departs from Keflavík Airport 35-40 minutes after each flight arrival.
The busses are located right outside the terminal building. Its destination is BSI, the main bus station in Iceland. All scheduled buses in Iceland depart from BSI bus terminal in Reykjavik. The apartment is only 4-5 minutes away by foot and only 1 minutes by car from BSI bus station.
If you arrive by car you can park in the street for free.
For your safety
Every room has a smoke detector and in the kitchen there is a fire extinguisher.
Please do not smoke in the apartment, and I appreciate that you take good care of it and leave it the way you found it.
The apartment was in a great location! Only a few minutes walk from downtown, but not at all on a noisy street. Also, the large church is a great landmark when describing where you are staying. The apt was very clean & the room was a perfect size for two friends. All the other rooms are rented out to other airbnb travelers, so it's fun swapping travel stories & a little like staying in a clean, safe, very small hostel. We never met the host, but he was pretty good at communicating with us & everything was as he described. I would definitely recommend this place to other travelers (as long as you don't mind not meeting & staying with your host).
Iceland and R-Town were amazing...simply amazing. Just being there almost nullifies the digs we ended up staying in. The place was simple...no frills. Great location behind the church...Not too hard to find. The building on the outside was a bit rundown...a lot of trash laying around, and the building in need of some serious cleaning and repairs. The procedure to acquire the keys was quite nice. The neighborhood felt safe...and we came and went at night. The room was sparse...in serious need of a feminine touch. The layout of the room was fine. The super thin pillow (only one) and the comforter were more of a junior high sleep-over set-up. Would have been nice to have had an upper sheet. It all just felt college dormitory style and utilitarian...not vacation style quality. Seriously nice comforters would have transformed the room. The shared kitchen and bath...functional and all good. My one major complaint...the view looked out into the courtyard of the church. But through a window that probably had NEVER been clean....literally. My one minor complaint...the room was freezing, and I contacted Johann. No solution was given.
Overall...no regrets. It worked. Just wish I was excited about the place even half as much as I was excited to finally get to see Iceland!
Hi Paul, thanks for your detailed review.
The windows have been cleaned many times they are just old. The are being replaced as I type for new clear windows.
You are in control of the heat as I replied back to you trough airbnb. there is a adjusting knob on the radiator for guest to turn up the heat very simple! :)
The trash everywhere was there a after a big storm, but the city has cleaned it now.
This accomodation has a very central location (right behind hallgrimskirkja church) with an excellent view of the church. The room was nice and clean with sufficient storage space. The kitchen was very well equipped for all your cooking needs. The bathroom was clean and tidy too. Great value for money and a good host.
