The Space

The room:
12' x 8' size, a raised loft type bed w/ a real & very comfy mattress, there is also a desk & dresser for your use.
The mattress can also be on the floor if you prefer not to climb.
I love comfort so I splurged on your bed linens; flannel sheets in winter & 1600 thread count Egyptian cotton in the warmer months as well as a luxurious comforter, extra blanket & pillows.
The room faces the street so it is best for people comfortable with city noise like buses going by etc. The house is on a residential street so not above bars or loud noise.
The room also has bay windows & gets a wonderful golden light around 9 am.

The House:
The Mexican Victorian decor will give you an authentic Mission experience. Hardwood floors & classic Redwood panels. A wonderful breakfast room in the back of the house where the friendly birds enjoy visiting the feeder & herb garden. The stove is a beautiful old 1940's gas stove & there is a hot water thermos on 24/7 for instant tea.
I like to treat guests as I would like to be treated so I am meticulous about cleaning in between guests; I disinfect your room & the bathroom very well, door knobs & all. I clean the toilet everyday & because I take a bath about every other night I wash the bathtub every time-the fabulous claw foot bathtub is my pride & joy so feel free to run yourself a relaxing bath.
The house is comfortably clean meaning I like a clean house but with a warm & relaxed atmosphere & all the house plants provide a very fresh energy.
One sweet kitty that mostly stays in the kitchen area & my room.
Please wear slippers or flip flops inside the house there is a shoe cubby at the entrance to slip off your shoes.
Enjoy smoking cigarettes outside
Please no other drugs.
The third bedroom is an Airbnb room as well check out my other listing:

Interaction with Guests

It depends on you
if my schedule permits i love showing people my favorite places in the Mission and SF.
otherwise, I will point you in the right direction.
I consider all my guests even if we don't cross paths too often friends I have not yet met.

The Neighborhood

About the Mission/ "La Mision"/"The Mish":
Centrally located close to downtown, it is the city's Latino district & has been the gateway for new immigrants (except Chinese whose main gateway is Chinatown), initially Italian, Irish, then predominantly Latino since the 1970's .
It is famous for its historic buildings, Mission burritos (the best in Northern California), grungy artistic scene & it's colorful murals.
One of the main centers & a great place to people watch with a fantastic view of the city is Dolores park where the Mission, the Castro (gay) & Noe districts meet.
Though the Mission still retains it's gritty 'barrio' (hood) flavor the neighborhood has been undergoing a second wave of gentrification lately and has been experiencing with an influx of technology money.
The Mission district is large & complex, with varying socioeconomic areas, clusters of mini-communities, and specialty stores found nowhere else. A few years back Utne Reader rated the Inner Mission the 2nd coolest place to live in the US (first was New Orlean's Garden District).
Like in any other cities there are sections of the Mission that can be high crime but don't let that scare you, as a woman I have walked at all hours & never have felt unsafe -awareness & attitude is your best protection. Native San Franciscans know it as one of the 'cool & hip' districts with a Latin flavor & a funky edge as well.

Getting around

Excellent inner Mission location-2 Blocks to 24th BART (metro), short ride from the airport and to downtown, numerous bus lines & Hwys 280 & 101, short walk to J Church street car. The Mission has a community feeling, easy walking sometimes it is better to leave the car and get to know the neighborhood on foot.
The house is near both Valencia & 24th St. corridors w/ great boutiques, restaurants, art galleries & great day & nightlife.
Street Parking.

Other Things to Note

About Me:
I am a 45yrs old Latina that runs a small Latinamerican importing business in the Mission. My motto is Mi Casa es su Casa, I am courteous, helpful-you will love my Latin hospitality. I am also an experienced traveler, the last trip I did was to the Caribbean in Honduras (fantastic!).
I am from Mexico originally but grew up in the Bay Area & have lived in SF for 20 years (in this house for 12 +). I love to dance all kinds of styles but Brazilian Samba is my passion. My other hobbies are hiking, camping, shopping, fashion, antiques & history. I also speak several languages.
I can work a lot so you may see me little, but I am happy to share the best places locals love that are not in guidebooks.

  • I booked Nancy's house because I needed to find a place for my coworker who is visiting from Slovenia. Nancy was super easy to communicate with. She responded to my inquiry within an hour and she was very friendly and understanding of our situation. My coworker ended up loving the accommodations and enjoyed the location a lot. I would recommend Nancy's house to any visitors who want the San Francisco Mission experience!

  • I enjoyed staying at Nancy's and meeting her. The room was perfect - very neat and clean with a high ceiling, decorated chest, and impressive stained wooden doors that all gave it a peaceful feel. It's very easy to get to the BART and the neighborhood was very diverse. The nearby murals were very scenic. Nancy gave me great directions and gave me insights on beautiful views. I made it to Delores Park and was able to take some unique shots thanks to her help. I would definitely stay there again.

  • My stay at Nancy's was awesome. She is a great person and was lucky to have her as my host. The Mission District is a great neighborhood to be in and the location of the house is great. Close to BART and within walking distance of a ton of great places in the Mission. Highly recommend!!

  • Small room but it has all the essentials: clean sheets, cozy mattress and blankets, a large closet (however, abit noise during the night and early morning, I must say). the house is amazing, I had a hard time leaving everyday, all I wanted was to stay home and hang around in the living room and the kitchen! The location is a bit far from downtown, but the Mission is a very special underestimated district, full of surprises. I was happy to get the chance to know it well.

    I'd definitely stay here again.

  • I have been a week at the home of Nancy and it was very nice! This was my first experience with Airbnb, and I could not have asked for anything better!
Nancy is extremely helpful and friendly: she gave me lots of tips and information to visit the best San Francisco.
The house is very clean, the bed comfortable and the wireless works great! The neighborhood is very interesting and the house is close to the Bart Station that in 10 minutes takes you to downtown.
Ultimately I highly recommend you Nancy's house if you want to spend time in beautiful San Francisco!
If sooner or later I'll be back in California, I hope to stay again at the home of Nancy.

  • Wow! The diversity and energy of the 'mish' is amazing - as was Nancy and her wonderful welcome to her beautiful home. I was impressed with the culture, diversity, restaurants, and easy access to public transportation. I have found a new home on my frequent travels to San Francisco. It was wonderful to chat with Nancy and her mom, and they both shared great things to enjoy while visiting.

  • I loved it a lot and I'll be back for sure !! It was a real home away from home !!

ROOM - The mattress for the bunk bed was on the floor and I was spared the climb, which at almost 79, I really didn't want in the middle of the night. I regularly sleep on a platform bed, which is a mattress on a horizontal dresser, so I was right at home. And the flannel sheets and cozy comforter made my bed really snug. A dresser, a closet, a very small table for my computer and a chair, outlets for everything. All needs met. No frills. Perfect. One small drawback - traffic noise -bring good earplugs, which I did, - and I slept quite soundly. Right next to the bedroom is the pleasant, sunny living room, which I mainly had to myself, and in which I sat with my computer some mornings checking email. Down a short hallway were the other two bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom. This layout gave my room and the adjacent living room the feel of a private unit. The living room accommodations provided the frills that the bedroom didn't have.

APARTMENT- A very mellow blend of Victorian and Mexican. High button shoes next to Mexican art and aboriginal photos. Plants of all sizes everywhere, decorative bird's nests and seashells bring the natural world close. And all without disturbing it's Victorian identity. Mexican style terra cotta and off white kitchen with lacy multicolored ceiling banners. Once again - all needs met - with room in frig and pantry and all equipment available - which I didn't use as I only had breakfast there. There's one clean, clean bathroom, but the schedules were so different that there was no problem whatsoever.

NANCY - I now call her "friend". We found common ground, we "discussed" things, often with a different point of view, but with candor, nonetheless. I'm an assimilated Jewish "Bubbi" and an ancient native NYer from Brooklyn. Nancy's certainly not my peer, nor do we have common roots, yet we found so much to share and so much to identify with. Nancy knows lots of history, and walking the Mission with her one gets it. She and I danced salsa and she showed me samba. She told me she thought I had rhythm. Nancy has a deeply peaceful and serene nature, a sense of which permeates her home. I cannot think of a single reasonable request that I might have made of her that she would not have met, but in fact I had none, because all my needs had already been anticipated. l found her to be very open, warm, even tempered, really smart and congenial. And, like me, she's an independent woman. I like and admire her a lot. Being in her place, in her space, connecting, discussing, having fun dancing the salsa and learning some samba, increased the joy of this already joyful trip for me and made it really memorable.

About
Hola! I love to travel, the last place I went was the Caribbean in Honduras (awesome) and I have been day dreaming about my next destination-Colombia. I also love to dance-all kinds but Samba is my religion! If you are interested I can teach you Salsa in 15 mins -yes it's that easy & just enough to fake the rest... I speak several languages, I am from Mexico but grew up in the Bay Area. I studied university at UC Santa Cruz. I live and work in the Mission District, running a Latin imports store a few blocks away. My other hobbies are the wilderness, fashion, antiques & history. I like Airbnb because I can taste the travel energy without the actual travel, I have met very interesting & wonderful people & I hope we get a chance to meet. ...p.s. once you know Salsa you also know Cumbia, Cha-cha-cha, Merengue, Bachata...
