About this listing

A 5 min. walk from the Archeological Museum and 30 from Acropolis in one of the most artistic and interesting neighborhoods, this 25m2 flat with its private balcony and all the amenities of a contemporary flat, can be your dreamplace. Its garden makes one easily forget that my place is situated at the very center of a vibrant city, seeming more like like a hidden paradise. Not exactly a house, but rather a home for your stay. :)

The space

Cosy 20m2 studio in the city-centre surrounded by a bright and leafy yard. The studio is quiet as it is a fair distance away from the road and is located at the foot of Strefi Hill, where one can go for an evening stroll. It has its own separate entrance, independent from the rest of the house, as well as its own bathroom and small kitchen. Situated in the neighbourhood of Exarchia, it is only a 10min walk away from Panepistimio or Omonoia metro (tube) stations, and provides easy access to other means of public transportation (buses, trolleys, tram etc.). The major archaeological sites are within walking distance too. For instance the archaeological museum is just five blocks away, and the Acropolis with its new museum is within 30mins walking distance. Monastiraki square and Plaka (the old town) are just a 20min walk away, and Psyri and Keramikos square, where the heart of Athens nightlife is located, are either a 15min walk, or a metro station away respectively. Ideal for couples who want to explore the diverse centre of the city, as well as students attending seminars or professionals on business trips. The room can accommodate up to three people, or a family with one child. The house, built in 1920 just after the First World War, is steeped in history. On the trunk of the palm tree which stands in the yard, you can still see the marks left by the bullets from the street fights in Athens during the Greek civil war in 1946. In the 80’s and 90’s the house was one of the most (some claim the most) famous rock-bars of the city, with many local and international rock-stars including Nick Cave having performed on its stage. Its yard, separated into different levels, is a cool and welcome oasis of plants and trees, giving the impression that you are somewhere far away from the noisy and crowded centre of a big city. It is perfect for enjoying your breakfast, lunch, or an al fresco glass of wine, or just relaxing and unwinding after a tiring day of sightseeing.

Guest access

Easy access from the airport, port or train station by metro. And then approx. a 12 minute walk from Panepistimio metro station (red line).

Really unexpectable place. Blooming garden between city blocks. Very hospitable owner, who capable to give extremely useful introduction in Athen's history and actual city situation. Cosy place with "taste of Athens".

Romanos' place was great, and tastefully furnished. The garden was very nice and the neighborhood was very interesting. Romanos' himself has a lot of knowledge about Greek culture and philosophy, and I wish I had more time to speak to him about it. He arranged our airport and port transfers at a very reasonable price. Had a great experience overall. !

I stayed 2 weeks in the studio on my own as I was working near by. I enjoyed my stay in the studio, in Exarcheia & in Athens. It's suitable for a couple & maybe with a small child. Well equipped everything is there or easily accessible for a nice stay. What I enjoyed in particular: - Great location is vibrant Exarcheia: the studio is in a lovely multi-level garden next to a house. It is fairly quiet compared to the overall neighborhood (which never really sleeps). The only morning I heard a lot of noise was for the Saturday morning with the amazing farmers' market in the street at the foot of the building (so not really a complaint, it got me up to get all my produce early & beat the heat). - The studio itself is well equipped & cosy: all the necessary appliances are available, it's a small space but well thought out to include everything one might need. There is also a little terrasse & the little areas in the garden where also nice to sit in. - Very welcoming: Romanos was very welcoming & offered all his favorite addresses when I checked in. He was also available throughout the stay for questions. Long story short, if you want to live like a local, this is a place to stay at.

This was one of the best experiences I've ever had, and not just from Air BnB but travel in general. We were greeted warmly by Romanos' brother, Jason, and he walked us through everything in detail. He gave us a map of the city covered in wonderful suggestions and recommendations. Everything that we did by their suggestion was astonishing. Highlights were definitely the Sunset walk on Philopappos Monument and ALL of the restaurants they suggested. The neighbourhood is lively, alternative, and covered in cafes and bars. So I would say this area is more for the adventurous and true experience seeker. True to the pictures, the apartment is petite and neatly organized. But it contains anything you could want to cook a meal, or hang out. The outdoor space is as good as it looks, and we pretty much had it to ourselves the entire time. Thank you Romanos and family for the best stay. My husband and I are very grateful!
